Garage Talk / fuel additive for winter storage?
« on: December 07, 2023, 05:11:36 AM »
Hello everyone, Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the holidays.
My question today about what fuel additive/stabilizer to all of you use when parking your cars for the winter? I generally don't put 20 miles on my car a year so sometimes the gas can get a little old since the car is sitting. Gas might be a year or two old before it gets used up. I generally use Ethanol free gas and vary on the octane level. What would you recommend to add to the gas tank that will aid in keeping gas good?

This is for a few cars. I have a 1922 touring but also have a 1969 Camaro and 57 Nomad. Would you use the same additive in all of the cars or is there something different thats better for different year cars?

Thanks for the help and look forward to hearing back from you all

Decoding/Numbers / difference between 3919840 and 3964291 heads
« on: August 27, 2011, 07:05:46 PM »
hey guys,
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 3919840 heads and the 3964291 heads.??.  I have heard that the 840's produced more power and are a more desirable number. Is that because the 291 was produced in late 69 and doesn't fit may 69 cars? I have found that the 840's are a bit more $$$. Will the 291 heads make the same power as the 840's? thanks for all of your help.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: info on yenko/copo's
« on: August 22, 2011, 12:30:49 AM »
Thank you William!!!! You have answered a lot of my questions. I enjoyed the article you referenced and after reading it is sounds like I want to build the L72  ( or the 9561 coop) with the Iron block. 427/435 motor. Sounds like the L72 was a production car as well as a replacement block
.  Just a few more questions.
would it have been a x11 or x44 car as well like the 9560 copo?
with a 512 block (ending 3 numbers) 4 bolt main?
840 heads?
What crank?
Would these cars also followed the production line as the 9560 copo staring in december of 68 for the  69 year?

Thanks for your imput again

Decoding/Numbers / info on yenko/copo's
« on: August 21, 2011, 02:52:51 AM »
hey guys:
I am looking into building a yenko/copo CLONE. I wanted to say that first so all the purest don't freak out when I ask these questions,. I am just looking into building a car with a lot of HP to have some fun in with my boyz ages 6 and 4.

First question would all yenko/copo have a X code??? the reason i ask is when I have done some reading www.holisticpage.com/camaro/camaros/copo.htm the article references that "Since these cars could be ordered by any dealer there were many more COPO's built for other dealers." Does that mean another dealer from LA could have ordered the motor and put it into a LA built car with out a x code??? Just a question. They raced these cars in CA. also right

Second question is that the article says that "The first COPO 9561 cars were delivered to Yenko Chevrolet in January, 1969." That means to me that there could be a 1969 yenko/copo car made that would have been built in the NOR plant without a X code since X codes didn't start until the second week of December. I am sure the cars that he received in January were on the production way prior to the second week of December wouldn't they???  according to www.Yenko.net. "Early cars were either X11 or X66, while cars built after March are X44."  early meaning  early in the year of 1969 not early in the production year that would have been started back in sept of 1968.? So could have some of the first 1969 copo/yenko's built been without x codes?? We know that all 67 and 68's were without x codes. That is when the x codes started right?

Third question is what crank would they have put in a copo? and is that the same as a yenko/copo?  I have read that it is the 7115 crank but, but i have also read that the 7115 was put into the ZL1 and is super hard to find. I have read that most copo/yenko cars had the 6223 crank. Along those lines the block would have been a 512 4 bolt main with 840 heads right???

Finally, could a copo motor been placed in other cars other than the ones that Don Yenko built? yenko and copo seem to be synonyous with each other. Is there any info of how many went to don yenko and how many went to other dealers? I am not a fan of the 6 colors that i have read about that Don Yenko's camaro's were.  If there are ones that don did not get could they have been any color?

Once again guys i am just asking questions and have come to the table of the all knowing for a few answers. I am looking to build a car that my boyz and I can have a good time in yet CLONE it as close as possible. Thanks for all the feed back and look forward to hearing from you.

Restoration / header temps
« on: March 26, 2010, 01:28:38 AM »
Hey Guys,
I finally got my 69z28 crossram fired up today. It sounded great and really got the blood pumping. I do have one question. After about 10-20 minutes of running the car in the shop the headers got cherry red espically number 6,8 and 7. My friend thought that I might have a vaccum leak around the intake manifold that would make only certian cylinders to get hot but, I am not sure. I guess my question is how hot should the headers get once the car gets started and should some be hotter than others or once the motor gets broke in shold they cool dow? . I know that there is alot of heat after starting th car for the first time after rebuilding the motor but how hot. I do have a thermal temp device the read about 6-800 degrees is that about right? If that is to hot what do I do to fix the problem. I do have hooker headers and a chambers exhaust on the car. We also noticed a small exhaust leak next to cylinder 6 or 8 and it was to hot to tighten or replace the gasket but, that is on the schedule for the am. Thanks for the help
p.s could any body tell me how to post pics. I would like to show you all my car!

Restoration / Re: front of car is too high
« on: March 12, 2010, 03:03:10 AM »
Hey guys,
I have not replaced the front clip or springs. They are the ones that were on the car when I bought it. I have replaced the front and rear shocks with correct replacements. i have not moved the car much just up and down on a lift.  I also have not replaced the rear springs they are orig to the car.

Pjbizjak, I am not sure what R and R the springs and shocks means? I am assuming it means something about replacing them with new rubber bushing or something but, could you clarify what you were asking to make sure I have done what is correct.

I have another set for 69 front springs do you think I should change front springs to see it makes a difference. I am also looking into different tires. Thanks again

Restoration / front of car is too high
« on: March 11, 2010, 01:58:23 AM »
Hello folks,
I am about done with the restoration of my car. I do have one problem that has just came up. I put new tires on my car 235 60 15 on the back and 225 70 15 on the front. When I lowered my ( blue) car back down the front of the car is much higher than the rear. I have another 69 z28 ( yellow) and measured from the ground up to the wheel well chrome and on my ( blue) car it is 28 inches and on the (yellow )car it is 24 inches off of the ground.
My question is what do I need to do to fix this problem. Are the springs in the front to tight and should I replace them? This car has not had a motor in it for a long time and I have thought maybe over time the front springs will break back in and go down but, not 4 inches. As far as I know the front clip is orig to the car. Or is it the back springs are worn out making the car sag in the rear? which is the orig rear end. It looks like my car is going up hill and I noticed it when I was restoring the car but I thought the weight of the motor would fix it but it has not. Thanks in advance for all of your help. Has anybody else have/had this problem and is there any car that should look this way?

General Discussion / Re: headers
« on: March 08, 2010, 04:05:55 AM »
hey bjv69ss,
I just put on a set of headers on my 69z that were hooker comp. I talked to Howard at summit racing ( tech support)  and he freaking knew his stuff. Maybe you could give tech support a buzz to see if they could help. I have been through paying $$$ for headers and then beating them they would not fit.

Sorry about not giving enough info.

My car is a 69 z28 oct built.

It sounds like it should have black on the bottom if I have read the attachment correctly!?!
Thanks

Restoration / bottom 3 inch of car color???
« on: February 01, 2010, 07:28:37 PM »
Hello guys,
I am just finishing up the painting portion of my cars restoration. i have one question regarding what color the bottom 3 inches or so of my car should be. From the back of the front wheel well to the front of the rear wheel well I have seen it painted 2 different ways. One way is to leave it the same color as the car ( which my car is Lemans Blue with white stripes and white vinyl top) or I have seen it  painted a black color with some texture to the black. Does anybody know what I am talking about or am I up in the night?  thanks for your help

Restoration / correct code/name for z28 stripes
« on: January 08, 2010, 12:14:41 AM »
hey guys,
one question about 69 z 28 strips. What was the correct color code or name for white stripes. I am painting my car and I need the correct name/code so I can order the correct paint. I know that Dover white was an option in 69 but, is Dover white the same color/name as the as the z28 stripes or did the stripes have their own code/name?? Thanks Brady
