i will say this as a painter my self and my father worked for chevrolet in 1962 till 1975 and he said they were sprayed with Laquer with a flattening agent and they appeared semi gloss and that the reason some cars appear glossy now ( the cars with original paint) and i agree from experience is this: Laquer was made to be polished. If you rub something or wipe it or wash it enough over time the Dullest surfaces become very shiny. We have three original un painted RS/SS camaros and they are in fct Semi gloss on the rockers and the tail. :D

Restoration / DOCUMENTATION...........Job Number????
« on: January 25, 2008, 08:12:18 AM »
So heres a good one for discussion. I have a full #'s matching 68 SS Camaro, 396,turbo hydromatic, Butternut Yellow, Vinyl top car, A/C, Nose stripe with door extension stripes. Houndstooth interior, Tach Consel, .................Any way you get the point. All original condition and now i am doing a full Rotissory restoration and while taking the car apart the tank sticker is totally demenished to nothing. No protecto plate what so ever. No documentation until yesterday. I was tearing the seats apart and in the back of the drivers seat panel i found a 3x5 card with A JOB number and list of options installed on my original car. Is there a way to research this JOB Number to get a real Documentable verification from someone of some certifiable recolection and reputation ??????????

my father has 3 original 1968 SS/ ............ RS/SS ........and a............. Z/28 they have never been repainted because he baught them new. they are all 60% like a satin. NOT GLOSSY   at all. I just think people are getting more laxed on originality. Because if you see my fathers original cars he baught new they are totally stock and untouched. The stripes too. Partial sticker and partial 60% satin GM paint

Originality / Re: HC coded camaro motor????
« on: January 19, 2008, 07:55:19 AM »
ok well i have a 1967 rally sport with a  engine casting #3858180. the front deck reads  T0118HC. i was told and also read that the tonowanda plant sent 1966   327's to Los Angeles plant during a shortage of engines. These 327's were sent out during the 47,100 unit built untill the 50,000 unit was built???? My car came factory with a power glide and it appears to be original. all Date codes match from Carb to heads, manifolds, Tranny, rear end. All matches this January date codes????
