Ever consider doing a preservation on the car?  Looks like it'd be an amazing candidate.

Thanks, I pretty much have left it as is, other than use vinegar to get the mice smell out of the trunk.   I still have 3 of the original tires (they were used only on the front of the car as the back always had H series poly.   I had it at chevy vette fest once (vintage/survivor display) before that show became MCACN. It was always kept in a barn on a carpeted dirt floor in Wisconsin and it has no rust. The original owner poured motor oil in the back wheel wells from inside the trunk to prevent rust. I am sure I will wipe off more of the bottom of the car once I get my 2 post lift working.  The engine compartment could use a dust rinse off probably from the farm it was kept at most of its life.

I need to learn more about whether all/some Camaros have this writing on the firewall, if its on the cowl tag for black body, black v top, then why write BLACK on the firewall?  Could it be something for a black tail panel car? or painted bumper?.

thanks Bryon,  I will eventually get with posting pics on my own again ;)

It is pretty cool they wrote the whole word out and did not abreviate to say 3 letters. Its been likely 17 yrs since I paid any attention to this stuff under the hood.

I should note my car is a 10 B and not a 10 10 like I thought on the tag.  I would like to learn if all cars had writing on their firewalls and what it relates to.  Also, how do they know to paint the endura bumper during assembly, what tells them to do so.

Hi Byron,  I will send you a picture you can add for me as I have been terrible with posting pictures lately, still struggling with flicker. Plenty of folks help me on this website so always want to return the favor.

Hi, I never posted a tag of my original survivor, and it seems when a 10 10 car comes up, there is always concern they are fake.
I was just going to send it to Kurt (if he wants it), but if there is one or 2 at most others, please pm me.

I have been under the hood lately on the car, and thought why not share the info (but not to aid those doing fakes).  The firewall has B L K written on it (faint white-ish, likely a white grease pencil when new), or maybe it was BLCK letters, that I can check on and post a picture if anyone wanted.  maybe they do this to all the firewalls.

General Discussion / Re: This stamp look ok
« on: October 23, 2023, 11:11:22 PM »
I personally think its not sand blasting on the block, its exposure to the elements from being apart for a long time.  You have to look at all the other parts with that car in that link that look like it has been apart and stored badly for a long time.

A lot of things without a complete context can get you to the wrong conclusion.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 68 z/28 starter date (made likely a mistake)
« on: October 20, 2023, 04:12:02 PM »
I am going to skip this starter that is one day short of the car assembly date and look for something in the 2-4 weeks before.
6 days is too close.  I am glad one should not look at the engine assembly date.
thanks for the help!

Decoding/Numbers / Re: DZ stamp opinion
« on: October 20, 2023, 04:42:30 AM »
I myself do not see a confirmed DZ below the top stamp.  It could be a part of a 0 for the assumed D.
I think the V is fairly well defined and thus, the 4 numbers for the build date would push the underlying DZ to the right of the above stamp.  Lots of odd things going on here.

A magnaflux could maybe help determine what is really below the grindout.

My 2 cents.

Ok,  just read the official production date per NCRS and it was 7/18/68.  That lines up with the 7C on the cowl tag.

So.....what would be the correct date range for the starter considering that info?  Would 7/12 be still too soon (1 week before)?
My guess its a stretch.

thanks for the help.

why someone would get rid of the glove box sticker to replace with a new one.  There is so little to authenticate a 68 z to begin with. Get a junkyard glove box door and keep the original for documentation. With the engine not right, it puts into question the protecto plate. what little I see of that, it does look convincing (but not seeing the blacked out portion means maybe the person is still alive on the car, which could be good).  Probably would say that engine was blown years ago.  But if that person said it is a real Z, then someone did good enough in that buy.

Decoding/Numbers / 68 z/28 starter date (made likely a mistake)

Would a 8 G 12 (july) starter be too late for a july 7 engine build date?  I screwed up and focused on the body date of 7 C and thought the starter was the early second week which is before the 3rd week of the body.
Asking the seller to not process my buy it now (fingers crossed).

dam trigger happy fingers today :(

Such  a cool car, looks likely dent free, all I can say is maybe get some 2" pink board at homedepot and get that sitting against the drivers door, as I see a sad dent from that 4 door in your future in that garage.  Lucky to have a great color combo car.

General Discussion / Re: Pictures of 1st Generation Camaros at 2022 MCACN
« on: November 28, 2022, 04:01:08 PM »
Great pics, all I can add is when I saw the green 68 car that looks like a perfect restoration, claimed it was one of 10 350hp 396s with air.  It is an auto car.  Not sure if that is the number for known cars or cars made.  My favorite was the black 69 L78. To see something so original in person was really a treat.

General Discussion / Re: curved neck 4 core radiator question
« on: November 24, 2022, 02:10:45 AM »
Considering I started this thread, and appreciate all the feedback, and think we would be lost without CRG, but will say this.

CRG uses rows to describe radiators in their tables.
There was a mix of folks saying rows and cores.

The reality is cores being same value as row number has been used incorrectly according to Dewitts, a very reputable radiator house.

I myself believe in their definition, its the core that is what sits between the tanks.  It is made up of rows.

It is good to point out corrections to a 'free' website, but there is no reason to get upset doing so.  I am a novice compared to the camaro guys I know that have had or have yenkos and COPOs, and when they saw my car when I got it years ago, they said it had a COPO radiator.  Today I would rather call it a 4 row curved neck. No reason anyone should get upset.  I myself transitioned to rows in the balance of my info in this thread, like CRG defines it per the tables.
