Decoding/Numbers / EDB 30174 1967 / 1968 / 1969 dating question.
« on: September 23, 2011, 11:48:34 PM »
1969 carriers are coded with a J .  What are 67 and 68 dated with.  The castings are 30174.  i noticed that 69 and 70 carriers have - 2 after casting number.  I have a carrier with - 1 after casting number and stamped code of  E  13  only.  Thinking 1st version carrier and then - 2 was 2nd version. Any help.  Thinking  - 2 came into production at some time that guys know?  Does anybody have a original 67 4 series carrier and 1968 4 series carrier that could look?

The interesting thing is that the stamp happens to be on the same blade that the W is stamped on the center section of that blade.  My gut feeling is that this was done purposely. Like your suggesting , inspector stamp. After fan assembled and torqued.  Wouldn't be for 15 foot lbs?

Have located a 15 stamped into one of the blades. Never noticed till today. What is it?

Both are 67 boxes. One would be 7 days and other would be 25 days before build date. I took the original box off years ago and traded with parts for a rear end i have. It was the 4 loc to loc box. I still have the special turn signal cancel cam.  I counted that and i remember there was no numbers on box top area, kind of plain. `Car still has all original steering componets too. I seen somewhere about the differences in arms and things. The one box with just the casting number and the 163 julian date is plain on the top and i kind of remember the extra bolt hole just being there. Not sure if this odd box was thought out the production year and if there has been some with the 4 loc to loc ratio.  The other box has the numbers that are on the site but is 7 days before car. I guess my goal would be to figure which box is right and then see about putting correct gutts in that one.   What started all this is a guy needs a box and i pulled them out and looked at what i had and never new they where close to date correct. One has original 67 arm on it to, 5.8 length. Which ever one i don't use i was going to give to him for free. So i want to pick correct one. Any help i appreciate!

How close should the box date be to build date? Does anybody have a July camaro with manual box?  Would the one with the 163 julian be right?

I have the same steering box, julian date of 163. The arm has the same number but has a GMT 15A   Would this be correct for a june or july camaro?
Also have a 5679142 box with assembly date i beleive of  A1817. Would either be correct for a 67  7B car.  first box has a 5.8 arm on it and the other has the 5.25 arm.  Would the 5.8 arm be correct for either.

Restoration / Re: Front Disc brake question
« on: January 01, 2011, 01:58:35 AM »
Both inner and outer are removable. What i do when the old have been removed. Stick rotor in oven for 400 degrees and put bearing races in freezer. After 20 minutes i get hot glove and place rotor on bench Then put one race in place and use old to beat new one in till it bottoms.  Flip rotor over and get other race out of freezer and put it in. Done.   Remember metal races heat up quickly so don't waste time. Be setup before begining with all tools needed. Be careful not to strike bearing surface

I have a old pump that i have had for years.  On the flange it has 40083 and the other edge has 497.   Does not have AC on pump. I beleive i bought it in the 80's . What application would this pump be for? Also what does the 497 mean?  Is this a service replacment?

Restoration / BBC open air cleaner base
« on: November 20, 2010, 02:18:25 AM »
Been hanging on walls for years.  It has the right angle tube for the BBC application.  Has flame arestor with 4 small dimples and GM twice around base.  The breather tube has 5 grooves.   2 grooves and small space then 3 grooves.  GM at least 2 times along the length of grooves.  I think base came off a 68 BBC camaro. Any ideas?  Did the rubber valve cover hose change during the different years (67-69)

Get info from rebuilder about what jets and power valves are in it and what he is putting in. Ask him if float settings were off. You may need this info later. Get vacumme reading when you reinstall carb.  Check one way valve in brake booster.

Hey Bar give us alittle more info on problem.  These engines have very little vaccume @ idle.  So idle needs to be healthy. Do you have power brakes?  carb size and stock intake?  Do you down shift to slow car?

Personally i start my car up at least one time throught the winter time. Wait for a warmer day and start car up. let run till nice and warm. This helps battery and charging system componets. Also trans fluid runs throught trans. Water pump turns also. Valve train is changed location. Rubber diaphrams throught out car are moved, distributor ,power brakes , carb power valves.fuel pump, auto trans too. Basically move things that are sitting idle over the winter. Oh ya. I pump my brakes at least 3-4 times over the winter to move diaphrams there to.  Please keep fire extimgusher near car and easy to find.

Selling hosing only. We had a 68 BB camaro and sold years ago in Northern Ohio around Medina.  Person who bought was going to race car. Thinking Norwalk.  Had complete fiberglass frontend with Yenko stlye hood.  power disc brkes and blue interior.  We believe this was original to car.
