Originality / Re: repainting '68 black N30 steering wheel shroud
« on: October 01, 2014, 07:38:23 PM »
Thanks, I was thinking it was more flat than the dash.

I have it stripped, so I can say definitively that it is completely chromed.  I thought it was odd too, considering such a small amount of it shows after it is painted.  I didn't want to sand the chrome if I could avoid it.  My thought was to use 1/16" wide fine line masking to cover the raised areas that will show chrome after the paint is applied.

Can you recommend a durable paint to paint the deluxe steering wheel (N30) shroud?  It's hard to get a good bite on the chrome.

What is the correct gloss?  It looks a little flatter than the dash.

Thanks

Maintenance / Re: 69 350SS VIBRATION

incom5633, if you are still out there, you didn't say whether this happened while just in gear or also in neutral too.  If the vibration is only rpm dependent, or also is present at rest in neutral, then it isn't likely that it has anything to do with the drivetrain from the transmission back.

my trim tag reads:

03D
68-12437  LOS 34043
714  D-D

Block:  18L335082  V0314MS

VIN: 124378L335082

So it was built right at the end of March.

My 68 SS 350 originally came with the 4-hole louvers.  Perhaps it was a temporary parts availability issue.

When did the 350 SS make a change from the finned to the stack style hood inserts?  April?

Maintenance / SB dipstick
« on: June 06, 2007, 03:47:40 AM »
I see 67 and 69 small block dipsticks listed separately in catalogs.  These engine appear to use the same dipstick tube and oil pan.  Is there a functional difference?

General Discussion / door striker
« on: May 20, 2007, 06:35:46 AM »
The door striker has a annular metal ring or sleeve on it where the latch contacts it that rotates with some effort.  How easily should this be able to turn?  Is it supposed to rotate on contact with the door latch?  I appears to have rubber between the rubber and the pin and ring.  How should it be lubed?

Restoration / Re: latex door seal: Heartbeat city same as OER brand?
« on: April 28, 2007, 01:31:48 AM »
Thanks.  I'll try to make the OER latex I have work (I hear myself say that a lot about reproduction stuff).  It's nice to draw other's experience so I don't have to try one at a time to see which is the least of the worst.

Restoration / latex door seal: Heartbeat city same as OER brand?
« on: April 27, 2007, 04:26:18 AM »
I have purchased a set of the 68/69 latex OER door weatherstripping, but unsatisfied with the fit.  Is the latex product offered by Heartbeat City identical to the OER (rebranded)?
