I don't know I had a lot of fun trying to blow up a saginaw in my 68 327  and it took quite a bit before first gear blew at the worst time in front of a hole group of people I was trying to impress. I remember that night pretty well considering it was twenty years ago. Boy I was a dumb gearhead kid! I put in a m22 I stole from my old mans Corvette but he eventually stole it back and I ended up with a m20 or m21 before I sold the car like a dumb kid. Boy I wish I had that car back! oh I am still a gear head not sure if I am any smarter just have more money to spend now. LOL

The short of it is there is nothing wrong with any of this until you get caught and you will get caught. The laws differ in different states. In some states is is totally legal to remove and reattach to the same vehicle the VIN tag for purposes of restoration. IN no state is it legal to remove a VIN and place it on a (vehicle) assembled sheet metal that never was part of the original factory build. Now that being said as my time spent working in a body shop on vehicles that sustained damage in the area of the VIN it was in the state of Florida 100% legal for us to remove the VIN an REattach it to new parts. In my opinion if you have a rotted out first gen with a title in your name there should be some legal parameters to follow that allow you to sacrafice the old cancer body for the rebody. I wouldn't object to a new issued title marked with "Restoration 2006" or More than75% aftermarket parts or something similar so no one could try and sell it as original sheet metal in ten or twenty years if that import crap would still be around after that long. Just my two cents!!!

Decoding/Numbers / How close is close enough?
« on: July 13, 2006, 07:51:55 PM »
What is the excepted rule of thumb for the cowl tag unit number to be within the last 6 of the vin?

Example: NOR plant start number 300001                          389641 - 300001 = *89640
My VIN is 389641
 My NOR Cowl Tag 89673
                         *89640

Where is the 33 car discrepency?

Canceled orders?

What happend to those 33 numbered sequences?

Thanks!

I bought one of the Dynacorn bodies or more accuratley was financially and physically involved in the process and it depends on the state you live in as far as VIN go. Most state will insist on a state issue vin. Some states will allow to remove and replace back to the existing car for restoration purposes. Most body shops have the ability to get away with more at least in Florida. If you rebody the car with your VIN it will be obvious and one day it will be impounded. There are a lot of ways to get around things but a simple installation of your VIN on a Dynacorn body isn't one of them. The car I finished had a state issued VIN and severly hurt its resale value and the ability to sell it.  I don't have a problem with rebodies because it should be obvious the difference from a 40 year old US MADE body to a 2006 import body so your not fooling anyone and why should the amount of sheet metal you replace have anything to do with your ability to drive the car legally.  There is a show I watch called CCR (chop cut rebuild) I think its on the speed channel and they are currently building a dynacorn body  starting at Dynacorn. There have been two episodes so far. As far as I am concerned is is no different then building a 33 3 window or other street rod. Just my 2 cents

Every replacement panel delivered to my shop was only $4200.00   from NPD. Essentially an unassemble Dynacorn body plus all the bolt on sheet metal.
For $9995.00 you can buy to whole thing assembled.
