General Discussion / Re: 67 RS with Poor Fresh Air Ventilation

That sounds like a reasonable approach. I'm going to look into it.
Thanks.

General Discussion / 67 RS with Poor Fresh Air Ventilation
« on: November 09, 2010, 03:59:38 AM »
I have two Camaros; a 67 RS with a/c and a 69 base with no a/c.
The fresh air ventilation in the 69 with the kick panel vents and the Astro Ventilation is great. The fresh air ventilation in the 67 is horrible; it's very stuffy riding in the car with the windows up.
Is it possible to install kick panel vents in my 67 and have them work? What would I need to do to have them work properly?
Thanks.

Maintenance / Re: Electric Problem

It appears to have been the junction box connections. The wire connections were loose and rusty. What a tiny weak link that can cause such trouble! I didn't ever know the junction box was there tucked tightly behind the battery and not very easy to get to.
Thanks for all the help; I hope the problem's gone for good.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm going to check the junction box first, then go from there. I know about the wire in the instrument cluster as that problem happened in my '68.
I'll check out the junction box in a few days and post what I find out.
Thanks.

Maintenance / Electric Problem
« on: September 17, 2007, 04:21:38 AM »
I recently purchased a '67 RS. It has what I suspect to be a ground problem that I'm not quite sure where to look for.

Anytime I activate a blinker, the brake lights, or even the cigarette lighter, there's a noticable flicker in the dash lights, courtesy lights, and headlights. The biggest annoyance is that the stereo cuts off for several seconds each time. When I'm driving, if I apply the brakes or the signals, the stereo goes dead and then kicks back on in a couple of seconds.

If I hold a test light to any of the hot switched or unswitched fuses, apply the brakes, turn signals, or push the cigarette lighter in, the test light will go slightly dimmer for a second and then back to normal. Not so, if I do the same thing right at the battery; the test light stays constant.

Is there a particular ground wire or strap I should check? Or is it something else?

Thanks.
Tim

Maintenance / Re: 68 Signal Lights Not Working
« on: May 08, 2007, 04:36:47 AM »
Thank you!
When I bought the car a year ago, the signal light switch was broken and the owner told me it had some electrical problems. I found the signal flasher plug you're talking about stuck up by the cigarette lighter with no flasher unit. (I probably would've thought it was from the original radio or an accessory not installed)...pulled the flasher from the fuse box, plugged it in and the signals worked perfectly!
Thanks again! This forum is great!

It seemed like it would be a ground to me, too. But the emergency flashers working confuses me. Are there other circuits and grounds involved with the signals that are different from the emergency flashers?

Fuse is hot at both ends with switch on.

My 68 signal lights will not come on. Flashers work fine. It's like there's no current feeding them when the switch is on.
I've replaced the flasher unit, signal light switch in the steering column, and ignition switch. Still nothing.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to check next?

Thanks.

Maintenance / How do you remove the headlight switch knob?
« on: April 21, 2006, 10:29:36 PM »
I'm suspecting a problem with my 68 headlight switch. The dash lights do not come on and when I turn the dash dimmer switch to high, both signal light indicators come on and the gas gauge loses power and moves to empty.

I want to remove the switch so I can unplug the wires to it, but I don't know how to get the know off and I'm afraid I'm going to break it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I should be able to work on this again this weekend and will post any new information I come up with.

Maintenance / One More 68 Electrical Challenge
« on: April 12, 2006, 11:47:08 AM »
I'm surprised that I've received no replies to my "68 Signal Lights Not Working" question, but now I have another one...

The other day, I decided to drive my 68 to work and it quit on me a block away from home. I figured it was just a cold carburetor thing, but as it turns out, ALL electrical went dead.

Following some preliminary investigation, I discovered the dome light is out, the switch does nothing, the lights won't come on, and not a single fuse in the box is hot. Sounds easy, but then I found that the horn works, the battery lights my tester at the battery and at the starter. I've performed no other tests yet. I guess I'll start by testing the battery, but after that, I'm not sure where to go next.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Originality / Re: 3-Spd Shifter Hole in the Wrong Place?
« on: February 28, 2006, 01:16:09 PM »
If I decide to leave the shifter in the floor, how do I find out the proper location and dimesions of the cutout? Otherwise, if I put it back on the column, I will need to locate a column lever bracket as the original was discarded before me.

Originality / 3-Spd Shifter Hole in the Wrong Place?
« on: February 20, 2006, 11:59:18 PM »
I just purchased a '68 6-cyl car that has had the column shifter relocated to the floor.
It seems to me that the hole is not in the correct location (too close to my leg).
Please see my attached photo.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thank you.

I have a 68 3-spd car that had the column shifter converted to a floor shifter. The location seems odd to me...closer to my right leg than I would expect. Are the 3-spd tunnel holes in the same location as the 4-spd holes?
