Garage Talk / Re: Restoring black plastic/vinyl trim
« on: April 19, 2018, 02:16:09 PM »
If you clean those parts very well with Dawn, followed by wax and grease remover, you could paint them with black SEM after using an AP(adhesion promoter). Go to their website or talk to your local jobber that carries it. Not all jobbers know what they are talking about. Any questions, call SEM directly.
Several if my "off-roader" friends use Sauron327's "formula" regularly on the plastic parts.  It works!

Gold Eagle does say that their 303 Protectant works on plastic.  I have used it on my vinyl top for years, mainly for the UV protection. If properly applied, it doesn't draw dust and actually makes water bead up. I also use it on the convertible top of another one of my classic cars.
But "restoring plastic", not so sure. More like longer lasting shine.
We need to hear from someone who has used a detailing product like TriNova...

Vendors items mailed last week. Looks like we've sold most of our 9000 spaces.
Meet items for owners and judges mailed today.

So the Spring show is a PURELY AACA event, and the Fall show includes other car organizations?

Thanks for the information Phillip!  :)   I need to make one of those shows this year...
Just so we are clear: I'm only talking about the AACA shows that the Hornets Nest Region puts on in the Fanfair area out front. There will be around 25 other clubs that show, including the local Camaro Club, in the Spring and Fall.  In the Fall the HNR show is for anyone, yes.

Phillip,

Do they JUDGE non-original (ie. custom) Camaros and Chevelles at the Charlotte show??  My son in law has a '70 SS 454 Chevelle (but now with LSA engine/4L80 trans)... He'd like the show I think...

Not in the Spring. It is a national meet.
The Fall show basically anything goes at the regional meet.

I will try to look you up there Friday or Saturday. Let,s hope for some nice weather.
Yes!  Snow in the North always slows up both vendor and car registrations.  Show deadline is this Friday.  At any rate, Speedway says they are ready!

Spring Charlotte Autofair, April 5 - 8 2018.  I'll be out front in the show field tent every day.  Around a dozen HP Camaros and Chevelles signed up so far for the show on Saturday the 7th.  Pretty good vendor registration, etc.

AACA does not check numbers. If the jack is mounted properly how you gonna check it anyway? The chassis judge will not pull it out to look... So if it looks original and is in good condition as it came from the factory...
Come to think of it, I like the "borrow one"  or "buy one and sell it after Hershey on Ebay" suggestions.
In the trunk area most points are deducted for non-matching spare tire, no valve cap, and rust.

You are welcome.  Nice car!  8)
The antenna issue is a 2 point maximum deduction, so I'd leave it like it is.
Note what Bergy said about documentation.  Take your 69 AIM and Owners Manual with you.

Sorry to have missed this... Just started working on the 2019 Glidden Tour.
Go to AACA.org, under Publications download the Judging Guidelines.  In the guidelines find the class judging sheet for automobiles, appendix 3-5.  That's as close as I can come to a list.  Note that there is the dreaded Other slot in tbe Chassis section. That is where they will count off for missing  jack and stickers. BTW, both of those are not accessories, as you describe them. The car came from the factory with them.  Can't say how many points the Chassis judge will deduct. It is his/her call.
Not sure about Gettysburg, but I will be at Hershey. Hope to see you there. Post a picture of your car.

Here in NC on (antique 20 years or older) you can run any tag as long as you have the REAL one in the vehicle. Most guys keep them under the seat. You also get a property tax break if registered as antique.
20 years???  No disrespect, but it is 35 years or older for NC.

Texas DMV must approve and register YOM tags.  They do not accept repo tags. I figure you know that 69 Texas tags were black on white sets. Before you buy, check with DMV to make sure the tags are acceptable.

Too many "tire bargains" are years old when sold "new".
Check  those DOT dates!

Six out of our twelve are in the recall.
And don't  foget the extinguishers  on boats. Kidde sells a lot  to boat manufacturers.
