Originality / Aftermarket "270" and "298" coils any good?
« on: November 08, 2007, 11:00:40 PM »
Many of the Camaro parts stores sell "270" and "298" coils with orginal caps but the cans and internals are new.  I've been looking for an original coil but I cannot find any for sale.

Are the "270" and "298" coils that the camaro parts stores are selling considered original?  Or are they considered fakes and as desireable as a restamped parts?

Thanks Team Camaro!

Does the stamped date of 3 27 look real or fake?  I have never seen a YH date stamp where the month character is larger font then the day characters?

Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the information.

Now all I need to do is find one for a 1969 April 3rd week Z...

From a crg REPORT on 1967 - 1969 Camaro Axles:
When a 1967 - 1969 Camaro was equiped with a posi rear axle, it would be stamped on the second line with a letter which was the positraction manufacturer code.  The posi manufacturer codes are D for Dana, E for Eaton, and W for Warner.

Could a Norwood 1969 Z28 have an axle made by Dana, Eaton, or Warner?

Thank you in advance for your input...

Decoding/Numbers / Re: YH wheel dates correct for my Z?
« on: May 13, 2007, 11:28:42 PM »
WOW.  Thanks for the info.  I will keep looking for YH wheels with an earlier date.

Mark, did you mean to say your car was built 04C (instead of 04L)?

Kurt, please clarify, my Z was completed on 04/22 - 04/23 (04/21 is the first day of the 3rd week)?

So the assemble process is like this? From a CRG article, it took two days to get through the Fisher Plant and 1.5 days to get through the GM Plant.  If the cowl tag was attached on day two (04/22) at the Fisher plant, that would mean that my car was started on 04/21 (04/21 is the first day of the 3rd week), cowl tag installed on 04/22, wheels installed on 04/23, and car completed on 4/23 or 04/24.

It took 7 days from the wheel stamp date, it sounds like the latest wheel date would be 4/15 (4/22 - 7 days), correct?

Decoding/Numbers / YH wheel dates correct for my Z?
« on: May 11, 2007, 11:27:46 AM »
My Z was built April, 3rd week.

I found a set of YH wheels that are dated 04/21/69.  The 21st is the last day of the 3rd week, correct?

Are these wheels correctly dated for my Z?

What dates should I be looking for?

Thank you Camaros.org,
- LeadFoot

Decoding/Numbers / Re: What date heads should '69 Z/28 have??

Thanks for the responses.  My heads are original but they are ported and aluminum roller rockers, etc...  I want an uncut original set.

Decoding/Numbers / What date heads should '69 Z/28 have??
« on: November 03, 2006, 04:38:31 PM »
I have a chance to buy a set of 186 heads for my 04C (april, 3rd week) Z/28.  THe block cast date is C189 (march 18, 1969) and the head dates are C69 and C79 (March 6, 1969).  The engine build date is 0402 (April 2, 1969)

I have a chance to buy an extra set of 186 heads dated B179 (feb 17, 1969). THese are 6 weeks, and 2 days from my engine build date.

Is 6 weeks, 2 days (from head cast to engine assembly date) to much time to be realistic?

Need fast response...  Thanks

Originality / Re: DZ block stamping
« on: October 15, 2006, 11:21:31 AM »
I have a 388 block that is stamped near that date.  I will get  a pic up (I owe one to Kurt anyhow..).  My vin is on the oil filter brace (on the cast surface).  I think my cast date is several weeks earlier.

Follow-up question:

For Holley dated carbs, is 941 the week of 4/1 - 4/5?  Or 4/6 - 4/12?

Thank you, LeadFoot.

Please help...

When a part is dated first week in April, 1969, what week are they referring too, the week that includes April 1st or the week that starts April 6th?

Thank you for your time.

Decoding/Numbers / 1969 Z/28 database questions
« on: October 06, 2006, 03:35:02 PM »
I have a 1969 Z/28.
Fisher Body Tag (Assembly date):  04C = April, 3rd week, 1969
Plant Code:  Norwood
VIN: 124379N632204 = indicates April, 1969
Engine Assemble date:  V0402DZ = April 02, 1969
Engine Block and cast date: 3932388 and C189 = March 18, 1969
Heads and cast date:  3927186 and C69, C79 = Marchl 06(and 07), 1969
Water pump:  3927170 dated K128 = November 12, 1969. Seems to early but is what is on the car?

Could the database administrator (Curt?) please provide data from other Norwood Z/28's produced in this same time frame?

Specifically:
(1)  What date 4053's do similar dated Z/28's have?
(2) What water pump (3927170 or 3953692) and cast date do similar dated Z/28's have?
(3) what date distributor do similar dated Z/28's have?
(4) what date alternator do similar dated Z/28's have?

Thank you very much for your time.  Once I finish writing down all the data from my Z/28, I will forward it to you.

Note:  The reason that I'm asking is because my car needs a 4053, distributor, alternator, maybe a water pump... And I want to make sure that I get reasonably dated parts.
