Beware guys, I've been looking for another 66-7 nova, and noticed the scammers are really working it today. If you click on the hot little crickets in front of a camaro, nova's etc. wearing thongs, your page will be resfreshed and you will be asked to log in again, and then they got your password. I know this has been discussed before, just know it would really blow if one of you guys got caught up in this

Restoration / Re: Restoring clean original trunk, touch up or strip it???
« on: September 30, 2006, 02:02:38 AM »
Thanks alot Kurt :-\

Now your going to make a flip flopper out of me ;D

The more I think about it, like stated previously, I just cant get away from that feeling when I see a car this original and untouched.

I'm going to stick with my first instinct with this car, its always paid off in the past

I'm going to leave the trunk, firewall and underside alone, with some light touch-up/clean-up. Detailing the subframe, suspension, core support, and inners is a must. Obviously paint is necessary, and in the original Olympic Gold

Im not a painter, but the paint on the inner frames/door jams, is super cherry.  Do you think I can get away with just spraying the outside? Or should I be preparred to consider spraying the jams as well?
Also, I wonder if I could spray the jams with a clear coat to bring the original color out, so its a close match with new paint.
Can anyone recommend which paint to buy, and possibly give me a the paint code #  for said manufacture
Thanks for your help

Disregard my previous post. I took a hose and sprayed the underneath, and it looks like its a solid color. It was an optical illusion of dirt.
John, can you confirm the correct color?. I also noticed the brake cable supports underneath your springs, I sure do like those, obviously mine were discarded when they swapped axles, but were these given to all early camaro's?
Thanks

The grey does look better.
Im curious, if this car is unmolested, did some cars not get the speckle paint sprayed underneath? I sure would like to know before it gets to that point in restoration. Appreciate any input

Thanks

I wonder if BB truck would be the same. I think I have a set-up off a 69 in storage?

Thanks bertfam :)

Oops, had to modify, I thought you were referring to this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968-CHEVROLET-CAMARO-RS-SS-396-AUTOMATIC-COUPE-AIR_W0QQitemZ190028269661QQihZ009QQcategoryZ6161QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

the interesting part is, the car Im refering to in the picture above is an exact duplicate,  color/vinyl top and option wise, although its been repainted red, it doesn't have the 8 track, pw, or tach. It does have the console, but with a clock, no gauges. And its #'s  LOS car, even built the same month :o

Are all the pieces to the smog equipment camaro specific for a 68 RS SS 396 w/AC???????

Secondly are they dated parts??

Also would 879 & 178 exhaust mani's be correct for a 09 built 68? I had read there were some mid year changes

rsatz28........I'll bet that sounds nice :)

rich69rs....... I know that set-up must be beautiful :)

I ended up buying the set-up pictured off ebay last week. I kinda wanted to stay with the same theme as it originally came.........well close :).........Nobody bid on the set-up, so at the last minute I decided, what the heck, $300 isnt bad, and saved a couple bucks

Well, I think enio45 makes a good point.
I have almost everything to do a full resto right now. As it sits, the only thing that wont be original GM is the front fenders and the cowl hood, oh...... and the dash panel.
I had already planned on an outer restoration, detailed suspension, firewall and trunk tune-up, but in reality, its not much more to just do the full monty on the car. And afterall, I can take plenty of photo's to validate how clean the car was to start with. :)
