From what I can read the axle code is BG0219G2 with an E under it. Casting date, I think, is B79. I will  get you a picture of the tag in the next couple of days. The VIN by the Oil Filter is not legible. Trans reads PNM22.

Kurt,

I will check the partial VIN again. Can you tell me a little more about where the conflict is in the #'s is. I know the engine is not original but I am confused about the tag issue.

Originality / Is it a true 1969 RS ?

HELP!

As you can see, I am a newbie and I need someone to tell me if there is anyway I can tell from any #'s on my car if it is an original 1969 RS. It has hidden headlights, rear backup lights below the bumper, etc...I just wondered, being new to the Camaro World, if there is any #'s on the car that would give me more clues.  ???

Thanks, Alan

Under the CRG Home Page, click on "Decoding" and it will give you a wealth of information on decoding all of the numbers on your Camaro. I am in your same shoes, a "newbie" !!!

Guys,

I have looked again and I can not be sure if there is another # or not. After looking again it appears to read V0913DZ. Is there somewhere else I can look besides down by the oil filter? I am new to all of this and am trying to learn as much as possible. Please pardon any dumb questions that I may ask. Thanks for the help!

Your right John Z,

I did not phrase that correct.  I guess what I meant to ask is could this "motor" be a 302 with that casting #. It appears that I did not get all of the #'s so I will look a little harder. From what I read on the CRG website, the DZ would indicate a 302. FYI I believe that the 302 is a 327 block with a 283 crank according to CRG.

Thanks for the reply.

Decoding/Numbers / 302 Block ?

I recently purchased a 69 RS Z28 "clone". The # on the block reads "V093DZ". I am sure the car is not a Z28 but could this be a 302 block?

I am new to the forum and have recently purchased a 69 Camaro RS. Ironically, I have been trying to decode all of the #'s on this car and started with the rear end. One of the #'s on my rear end is BG0219G2 with an E under it. From the research I have done, if it is a posi trac it will have a letter under the sequence of #'s. The E on mine stands for Eaton. If it was a D it would stand for Dana, etc. The forst two letters I am not sure of. The next four #'s is for the date produced, ie 0219 is for Feb 19. The G is for Cevrolet Gear & Axle and the last # is for the shift. In my case it would be the 2nd shift. Check out the rear end section of the CRG website and it may help you out.
