Looking at the repo and NOS grille out there... they are all molded out of gray plastic...   I want mine to be as close to origional as possible... what was the finish on the grilles when they rolled off the line? Were they molded and put on the cars or were they painted? if so whts the procedure? Thanks In Advance.... Also Are there any major differences in the NOS ones and Repops... as far as fit and apperance?

« on: June 03, 2006, 03:55:19 PM »
Saw this browsing the Mecum site.... besides being a convertible and an RS it appears to have the same Paint/ Top/ Interior color combination as my '68. I figured that if I got any more photos of it then i wold have a bewtter idea of MY finished product. Besides that this is a really nice and rare '68.. that is IF its real... no mrntion of documentation...  http://www.mecumauction.com/auctions/lot_detail.html?LOT_ID=SC0506-35938

It seems that "A" is a little to big for just a ground screw... but mabye it was... if it was it wont be the first "screwey" thing i have found with this car LOL... thanks all .... still open for opinions!

I believe very strongly that the "A" Hole was indeed for the U17 oil line.... And there is no doubt that "C" was for the spedo cable... is't to my knowlege that this hole was pluged if not used and was present on all camaros no matter what transmission usage. However the hole had to be drilled in the upper drivers side of the trans tunnel if the muncie was used. But the production hole was used for saginaw 4spd's. Hole "B" has got me on the puzzle....

Ok... Here is a good brain teaser for you camaro "enthusiasts" and more than likely a piece of cake for you "experts"... either way I myself dont know the answer. Break out your 1968 assembly manuals, and give me your opinions or shed me on a few facts. Below i have posted a picture of a section of the firewall area of my 68... It is a possible L30/M20 car as it has the valve on the frame and a few other odds and ends... but anyways there are 3 holes labeled on my pic.. what were they for?

I believe hole "A" to be the for RPO U17, the oil line hole, as seen in AM UPC 0 Sheet A8.5

Im just confused about hole "B" At first i thought it was hole 3C on AM UPC 0 Sheet A8.5 but holes 3A and both 3B holes are not there.

Hole "C" is where the origional speedometer pierced the firewall.

Ant and all help and opinions are apperciated. I wist to restore this car to its origional state and have very little to go by but i want to make it as correct as possible. Thanks in advance!
