Trans-Am Camaros / Re: Track RPM?
« on: October 18, 2018, 02:11:45 PM »
Jon were there any modifications allowed, head porting, compression, etc? I've read that top teams made power in the 450 range, good #'s for stock stuff.

I was thinking higher on the low side with a four speed they would have wanted to keep up in the power range. Just a guess haven't ever done that type of racing.

May have been discussed already searched around and couldn't find anything. What RPM range did the cross ram equipped Camaros see on the typical track. Just curious. Thanks

Points float seemed to be an issue back then. Don't know if good HD point sets weren't available, or we didn't know where they were. In any case a Mallory dual point was the speed tip of the week. When I purchased my current 69Z in 1975 the deal was done and I thought to ask if he had any extra parts that he had removed. Walked away with the original carb and distributer which were on a shelf in the garage. Lucky catch

Maintenance / AC R44SX
« on: September 21, 2018, 09:11:25 PM »
I've used R44S in my 69 for years I'm having a hard time getting them. Anyone have any info on the R44SX part #5613591? I have ran across some but can't find info on difference from R44S.

Out of curiosity I checked out my 10/76 parts manual, appears there's a JM code listed for 1969 Chevy II. Typo?

Originality / Re: 69 Oil Pressure Line Firewall Hole Location

It appears these holes jumped around a bit. Differing maybe by plant, worker, and production date. Surprised the AIM doesn't give specific measurements, too far one way or the other could run into stuff inside!

Red, was your car assembled at NOR or LOS? The firewall oil line penetration on my LOS car is not in the location shown in the AIM, and I've determined that several other LOS cars have it in the same position as mine. NOR assembly seems to have followed the AIM locations.
My car is 12C LOS

Went through the AIM, and searched topics on forum. Not too sure which location 1/2 hole should be drilled. I assume it's drilled in the lower dimple shown in attached photo?

Received a rebuild kit from Done Right Steering Systems Inc. 586-531-1549 Sam Falleti. They are located in Michigan. Very pleased, included in kit, upper and lower worm shaft bearings, sector shaft bushings, input and output seals, spacer washer for lash adjuster, and side cover gasket. All for $60.00.

Looking for a supplier that may have bushings for the sector shaft upper and lower. I've located the rest of the rebuild parts but can't find these. 1969 standard manual steering.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Camshaft 3959180
« on: July 26, 2017, 04:22:52 PM »
A book I have published by HP books in 1971 lists 3959180 as "Camshaft, mechanical. From 1969 427-CID RPO ZL1 and 1970 454-CID LS7 competition engines." Can't vouch for accuracy just because it's published. I also have a cam I took out of a crate LS-7 circa 1985 that is difficult to read the # but it appears to read 3959181?

Dealer installed new inter-locking mounts on my car, because it had headers and kit wouldn't fit.
