Thank you so much 68 Ragtop, but I’m like boomer632, is this for manual steering? Will wait to hear from you, before I print this! Thanks again.

Thanks, everyone for responding. Now a dummy question, being an old fart, where can I find a chassis service manual to read up on Section 9 for adjusting, and is this some that can be done by dropping the steering sector at rag joint? Just a thought. Thanks.

Thanks, R68GTO. To avoid damage to the unit, and total removal from steering sector, can it be broke loose at the rag joint and drop steer shaft and try to adjust. A little out of my ability, or just return it to my restorer, or my ace mechanic. Appreciate the info.

Maintenance / Adjust Steering

Have a lot of play in steering wheel. Manual steering. Car is SS396 L78. Do I loosen the nut on steering box and add to adjustment. Any help would greatly be appreciate. Car was contracted out on the restoration, but I done the cleaning up of steering box and can’t remember if I messed with the adjustment or not. Thanks!

Just want to add a kudo to David K! Kinda wish CRG would have been around in the early 70’s as I would not have had any problems finding for sure the all important paper work I need to know for sure what I have in my 69’ SS L78. 50+ years owned. CRG and the Forums is the best thing I’ve come across in my recent restoration of my car. Thanks.

Here’s my 50+ year owned 69’ SS 396 L78. 2024 resolution is to try and find more history on car. Found original owner and he can only tell me what he paid for car new.

Interesting, also have a 69’ L78 CE engine that was completely redone but the little it run before tear down, same symptoms as 139tech, but would crank and run really well and then would run horrible and just quit. Had the 4346 gone over about 3 times, and same issues each time cranked. Engine man decided to pull 4346 and put new 750 Holley Quick flow and instant problem solved. Oh well 1 deviation from factory correct build of car well worth the cost. Don’t know if this helps, but my comfort still in the positive realm!

Camaro Nut, no sir on the LED’s, though I am considering going LED’s in the future and possibly Dakota gauges. My console lights and in dash lights very dim presently. 1 part of this restoration I am slowly not liking right now, between the cost of complete wiring new and labor for it to be installed is starting to pinch me harder than I want to be pinched. Hopefully come Monday car going back to 1 shop and guy can find the problem with it. Hey rich69rs thanks for the diagram got in in my pics. Thank all of ya, and CRG for the help.

CamaroNut, thought I found the problem, eliminated it, and out new fuse in worked, with running lights on and turn signals on, but once I cranked up and took it for a spin came back, no brake lights and fuse blown. Do have the console ash tray with light, will check it also. So the problem I found was a severed line to the glove box button and light bulb. So I will try the console ash tray light, next. Thanks.  To DavidK, yes actually happens when I take it for a ride, and I return, no brake lights, blown fuse, and running lights and turn signals working! Go figure, eh David K. Thanks.

Thanks 169Indy, failed to say the times it seems to be blowin fuse is when I actually drive it! All 3 blown after replacing them test brake pedal 2 or 3 times and works fine. But will try here in a bit to pull sockets and bulbs. Need to figure it out, cause I’m fixing to go LED in and out. Thanks again.

Yes sir 68kiwi, and welcome from the NEW Z. And love your car, and your choice to signature it with your flavor. Your car your choice. Like mines, 69’ L78, with painted steelies(XT) and dog dish caps. But it being an X66 car, real big block I too have a flavor of not painting the rear tail panel black, and painting it body color! Love my Burgundy Maroon, yes even the rear tail panel Burgundy. In my 51 years of owning, never seen it with the blacked out rear tail panel. Was it a special ordered car, and ordered like this really don’t know. Maybe another forum issue to yet be discussed, just sayin, not sure. Thanks.

Wow, wow! Learn something new every time I log on to this group. 51 years owned 69’ SS 396 L78, and never knew the radiator support also had a seal kit. Now educate me, is this on all cars, as mine’s being a solid lift engine and non A/C. Thought I had all the bases covered on my restoration. Thanks, in advance of an answer.

Now Mr Kurt, this is inticing, some records survive! Where do I find the assembly article? What is MA6 and can it still be purchased? Remember now I am new to all of this CRG stuff but an old fart, long time 69’ Camaro owner. Thanks for advanced info you can share. God Bless.
