Garage Talk / 1969 Corvette LT2
« on: October 13, 2023, 03:22:31 AM »
I just recently read about this prototype corvette. A ZL-1 inspired 454 putting out 588 hp @6400 and 542 ft / lbs at 4800. Turbo 400 with 4000 stall converter. Doing neutral drops from 7000 rpm ran best time of 10.60 @ 132 mph at GM proving grounds in 1969. A gentleman named Dave Miller recreated that particular car. The articles are from Motor Trend.

Has anyone purchased glass from this company? They say they offer the correct logos and print styles but also do the Astro Ventilation script in white ceramic like original.

Originality / 68 BB fuel line clip
« on: February 21, 2023, 08:25:15 PM »
I have a question regarding the BB fuel line clip that is mounted on the pass side frame rail below the heater box. Is it riveted or bolted on? In the AIM UPC 8 B3 it shows it as being bolted on but the picture on UPC L35 A8 it looks like the riveted clip. I have found a discussion here on the forum where someone said that only BB cars had the riveted clip.

What is the purpose of these springs? I never installed them because the tension on the springs was so strong that I could not get them on so I left them off.  My headlight covers work fine without them

General Discussion / 396/425HP?????
« on: August 13, 2016, 05:58:35 PM »
Just got my new issue of Muscle Car Review and there is a tech article about a stock 396/375 HP rebuild putting out 425HP.The only deviation from stock is the use of roller tip rockers and pointless distributor. That was also using the stock manifolds. With headers and rejetting the carb(primary side only #68 to #72) it went up to 457HP.

Maintenance / Vacuum advance
« on: July 26, 2013, 02:31:29 AM »
I switched my vacuum advance from ported to manifold vacuum on my 396/375hp and boy what a difference. My car always ran fine but now it runs even better.I also noticed a drop in engine temperature at idle.Any time my car idled for long periods or I got stuck in traffic I would see the temp gauge slowly go up.I had it running for a 1/2 hour and the hottest it got was 197 degrees. The only problem I have is I cannot find the correct vacuum advance.I am running 12" hg at idle and my advance starts to move at 8"hg and stops at 15"hg.So my idle is a little unstable. All the part numbers listed in the forum for the vacuum advance I need are discontinued.Car Quest told me the part number is good but they are not sure they can get it.Paragon Corvette has an aftermarket vacuum advance with the correct GM part number that I need but they said they do not know if it is the right 4"hg start to 8"hg end that it is supposed to be. I don't want to spend 45.00 and it is the wrong one.Has JohnZ  ever dealt with Paragon Corvette? They have 6 different advances listed with different part numbers.I just want to know if all the advance units are the same vacuum pull but have different numbers stamped.IN NCRS judging I guess they check numbers like that.Someone who has a NCRS corvette is probably more interested in the correct numbers than drivability.
