Restoration / Firewall Pad-Molded or Not
« on: July 19, 2012, 02:59:48 AM »
I am going to install in new firewall pad in my 69.  There are two types on the market with very different prices.  Molded-very expensive and non-molded, reasonably priced.  Which of these will comply with concours standards and which is easier to install?  Thanks for your help.

Restoration / 69 Carpet Configuration-Front Seats
« on: July 18, 2012, 11:38:02 AM »
Does anyone have photos or suggestions for proper install of front seats in relation to stock carpet.  I understand that the seats are supposed to be UNDER the carpet.  Mine are currently installed over the carpet.  Since I have them out for cleaning and under dash work I want to reinstall them correctly. This will install cutting perfectly good carpet so I do not want to make mistakes.   Thanks for your help.

Maintenance / Rear Body Harness Replacement Procedure on a 69 Coupe
« on: July 15, 2012, 06:32:35 PM »
I have determined that I need to replace my rear body harness.  This harness is routed between the dash and the trunk with a plug on the driver's side of the trunk for the tail light/turn signal/marker light harness.  What is the best way to replace the rear body harness on a done car? What do I need to remove to get at the harness?  It looks like the kick panel for sure.  Of course I will check the plug there before I proceed any further.   All wires at the headlight switch plug are working correctly and my tail light section operates as it should when I apply independent power.  Thanks for your help.

Maintenance / Tail Lights Stopped Working
« on: July 13, 2012, 09:34:49 PM »
So far I have checked the fuse and it is good.  Used a test light on both ends of the tail light fuse and it has current.  Disconnected the main plug at the left side of the trunk and tested it.  All wires have juice except the light and dark brown ones.  So, I have a problem somewhere between the fuse box and the trunk.  Could it be a bad headlight switch?

Restoration / Proper Starter Paint Scheme
« on: July 13, 2012, 03:35:05 PM »
I have Jerry's book which specifies starter paint color.  (30-60 Percent Gloss Black)  How far does the paint extend.  Is the nose all black, all cast or partially black?  Also, is the Solenoid metal case black?  I have a 69 SS 396-325 built in September of 69.  Thanks for your help.

« on: June 27, 2012, 05:48:33 PM »
I am going to have a number of parts plated. Does anyone know a source for a vendor that knows how to plate Camaro parts with the various correct materials so they look acceptable for concours judging?

Restoration / Windlace-Orange Madness
« on: June 16, 2012, 04:17:58 PM »
I have an orange houndstooth interior.  Correct color for the rear windlace is orange.  Of course none are available in this color so I have painted the black ones with vinyl paint in the correct color.  Prepped them correctly but the paint keeps coming off where the windlace contacts the door.  Is there a clear coat or other coating that will make the orange paint stick better?  I did use the correct preparation spray before spraying the color but it did not seem to matter.

Decoding/Numbers / Rare One?
« on: March 31, 2012, 02:04:26 PM »
My car is an SS 396 with 3.07 Posi, M-20 (wide ratio) four speed, 325 horse (L-35) 396.  Options include hugger orange paint with parchment vinyl roof. orange hounds tooth interior, white hockey stripes, console with no gauges and radio delete.  Only 314 Camaros in 1969 had the 3.07 axle.   6,752 L-35 engines were included in convertible and coupe V-8 production numbers.  This constituted around 3 percent of the total V-8 build.  Taking the total V-8 build (Coupe and Convertible) times 3 percent yields a figure of 10.  If my math is correct, no more than 10 cars were built with this engine and rear end configuration.  Considering the other options, some of which are quite unusual, this car is a very low number example.  It is bone stock (restored) and I intend to keep it that way.  I have the original window sticker, protecto plate, original sales contract and a number of original service documents so I am confident of the cars lineage.

My Gardner exhaust spits rust from the bleed holes on the resonators and mufflers.  My car was built in September of 1969 at the Norwood plant.  Were chambered exhausts sold by the dealer late enough that a dealer installation was possible?  Stainless works makes a correct chambered exhaust in stainless.  I plan on getting it coated with a natural finish.  Would the installation of this exhaust be concours correct?  Thanks for your help.
