General Discussion / Console temperature gauge readings

Someone was having issues with their gauge and I could not remember where I saw this but ran across it this morning. It was on team camaro and I thought it was interesting.

Ok, just an update to this thread in case anyone wonders about this in the future. Tonight I replaced my sender unit and decided to figure out what temp is where on the stock temp gage. I used the sender unit and my grill and a pot of water and started with boiling water and went down from there. Here is what I found:

218F at one notch past vertical
200F at the Vertical hash mark
195F one notch in front of vertical
187F two from vertical
180F three from vertical
173 at the first large hash from Cold
162-167F one mark under the first large hash
159F between the 2nd and third mark
155F at the second mark
150F between the first and second mark
140-145F at the first mark
140F and less - under the first mark

Hope that helps some people know what their stock gages are at!!

Seen this on the yenko site. Car still has the original trunk weatherstrip. If  you look closely on the right front side you can see the orange line in it. Trunk spatter looks to be a stringy mess when it was put on . neat car

I thought the paint was pretty shiney for original and alot of stuff has been restored under the hood. Glove box is very glossy too

I got to go to the Trans Am race at Sebring over the weekend and it was interesting. All the cars I looked at were tube frame race cars. Theres 4 divisions and from what I could tell the TA class could run a 358 v-8 and were mostly corvettes and some mustangs. Only a couple camaros. The mustang bodies, all were conposite, were wider and really aerodynamic in the front. Might be why you didnt see many camaros. The corvette looked pretty stock. The middle 2 classes,TA2 AND TA3, used the stock engines and must buy them from certain builders and from what I was told couldnt touch them. Seemed like an IROC class.  The cars were still tube frames and race cars. They seemed to have rules on the amount you could spend on shocks and brakes and such. It was interesting, corvette and camaro could use the 7 liter while the mustang was stuck with a 5.0 coyote or the new voodoo motor. The GM cars had thorottle body size restrictions and most of the cars had some kind of weight which the GMS tended to be heavier. It was real interesting. One guy with a camaro in the stock motor class said in the back straight he was hitting 158 mph. There were about 6 cars in the slowest class, TA4, and some sounded like 6 cylinders but I didnt see anything online about what they ran.
Sad thing, I seemed to have deleted the camaro pictures I had of the car with the hood off!! It looked stock and even had a SLP cold air kit on it. Soo, you get pictures of Peter Klutts Dream Car Garage Challenger!! Not many Challengers there.
Sebring is an old Army airbase and a rough concrete track. The pits were all concrete and was a nice place to look around.

I ran across this today.   Guy claims it's originall car. Kind of neat. Bad part is no feedback and poor pictures . I first thought it was butternut but it's white.

I went  to the local Burger King Cruise in tonight. On a good night they will have a hundred cars. They had two first generation Camaros one I had not seen before. I looked at the trim tag and it's the same week as my Z28. I looked at the VIN number and it was 6 behind mine. So the next time we get to Park beside each other and maybe we'll see if they remember going down the assembly line together

Maintenance / Anyone gutted a restoration battery?

My 3 or so years old restoration battery has given up and had read there might  be another battery inside the case? Anyone cut one open? Thought I might save the case.
Friend had one and wherever he bought his they told him if it was not on a tender constantly they would not warranty it. I got a good charge in  mine after it was acting up and it would hold a load which seems to be good for starting the car 3 times then it is dead and has lost its load capability. Of course the fourth time was when the car was in the trailer and I'm trying to unload it at the show

I was up till 2 am last night doing finishing touches on my Z, and took it to its first show today. I was thrilled for the car to win best first generation Camaro!  I want to thank everyone who gave me advice, opinions, a few of you did some work for me. It is finally done! I got a few little things I could do and the reproduction battery decides after 3 years it's good for 3 starts and I get to the show and dead in the trailer. The pace car in the background is owned by Dave Roberts of Right Stuff detailing.

I have a few parts left over and found these clips in a bag marked door panels. Looks like a left and right version. I even searched the hbc website and no luck. Anyone know what they are?

Restoration / Latch causing back of hood to move to side?

I got my hood on today and it doesn't fit too bad and the stripes line up until the hood is latched and you can see the rear of the hood move toward the side enough, the stripes are off in the back. I messed with the Latch some and about all that moved was the front. Anyone have any ideas?

Originality / DId a 69 Z use the capacitor on the coil?

I copied this from a post Danny made. John left this reply. I am pretty sure i had seen them with the capacitor but i didnt find it in the AIM. Thanks!
coil bracket with the "notch" is not unique to the Z/28; originals don't have the notch, although the eBay sellers want you to believe they did, so they can claim they're "rare". The one in the photo is clearly from another application, as it has the screw to attach the radio noise suppresson capacitor, which was never used on a '69 Camaro.

Originality / Bolt for heater hose clip in alternator

I am looking for the bolt that goes in the alternator bracket that holds the heater hose clip. Mine was gone. It looks like a recessed head and a self tapping thread.  Amk does not have this bolt and was wondering if anyone ran across it use someplace else? It looks like a smaller version have a brake line bolt

Originality / 69 Rear bolt alternator, washer?

The AIM calls the thin head bolt a bolt assembly. should it have a flat or lock washer on it? It didnt look like it took much torque, I wouldn't think it would be a captured lock washer.
