Maintenance / Car pulls to the right when braking.
« on: June 30, 2013, 11:11:50 PM »
I've replaced both front calipers, bled the lines and there are no leaks but when I apply the brakes the car pulls to the right.

Also...I'm unable to get the brakes to firm up.  Should I bleed the rear brakes as well?

Thanks in advance for any help.

General Discussion / Where is the temp sensor located?
« on: February 15, 2012, 01:56:18 AM »
Trying to find the temp sensor on my 67 Camaro with a 327.  I think it's supposed to go on the front of the intake just below the water neck but I've read a few articles saying some of them were located on the driver side engine block.  Thanks in advance for any direction.

General Discussion / Brake booster question.
« on: February 02, 2012, 08:22:39 PM »
My 67 has the front disc and rear drum brake set up and I'm wanting to install a brake booster.  First I was hoping someone could tell me exactly what a brake booster does and what the benefits are.  I sure they increase the braking efficiency of the system and or shorten the stopping distance.  I think I've settled on the 11" system but was hoping someone could tell me what problems I may face with the install.  Currently I have front disc and rear drums and all I have is the master cylinder under the hood. It appears that the front calipers are not original.  I purchased a set of brake pads from Auto Zone for a 67 and when I went to install the new ones they weren't even close to what was on the car.  Back to Auto Zone and I wound up with pads for a 69.  How did that happen?

Next winter I am wanting to do a brake conversion with disc brake all the way around and those sexy red calipers.  If I install a brake booster will that dictate what kind of brake conversion I can do?  Thanks in advance for any direction.

General Discussion / Crane XR-i points conversion question.
« on: January 27, 2012, 04:08:36 PM »
I've had it with these points and am inches away from purchasing the Crane XR-i converstion kit but am somewhat confused about installation.  Of the instrucitons I've read installation seems quite simple....TOO simple to be honest.  They say to simply remove the old points then insert the elec ignition in the exact same place, hook up the wires exactly as the points were and your ready to go.  IS that all?  I've read posts about resistance wires, running this to it's own 12v source...etc.

Also...I don't know what a rev limiter is but this particular unit seems to have one. What does a rev limiter do and how does this affect engine performance?  Thanks guys.

General Discussion / Backfire through carb?
« on: January 23, 2012, 03:48:22 AM »
In the past few weeks my engine has developed a backfire through the carb.  I have an Edelbrock 1406 and run an Edelbrock 1721 fuel pump so I know the fuel pressure is correct.  I've read where a weak coil can cause a backfire and was hoping someone could give me a few suggestions as to where I shoudl begin looking to resolve this issue.  The coil I have is nothing special, purchased at a local parts store,  and is about 2 years old.  If you think the coil could be an issue could you recommend a good coil to purchase.  I really think items at local parts stores are average at best.  I've recently changed the points, condenser, rotor, dizzzy cap, new plugs and plug wires.  The only thing I have left to do is to check timing.  The dwell is set around 27.

General Discussion / Broken bolt in engine block
« on: January 21, 2012, 08:05:49 PM »
Was tightening the  lots on the plate between the fuel pump and block when one of the bolts broke. It's almost flush with the block and I can't get a bite o. It with vice grips of pliers.  My car is a 67 Camaro with a 327. I did purchase an "easy out" but there's not enough room to get a drill down there with the bits on. Any suggestions?

A buddy of mine hooked up my Edelbock carb and the car has always run a littlr rough.  I do not know the first thing about carbs and know just enought about engines where I eventually have to take the car to a real mechanic.  I was poking around under the hood a few days ago and noticed, just by change, that the red wire from the carb was hooked up to the positive side of the coil.  I watched a youtube video about installingn carbs and the instruction said NOT to hook the carb up to the coil but to run the red wire to the fuse box.  I have two questions:

1) Is that correct?  Shoudl the red wire be run to the fuse box and into which fuse receptacle?
1) How do I change the end of the red wire so it will plug into the fuse box?  IS there a special wire to use?
3) How do I get the wire through the fire wall to the fuse box?
4) Can I purchase a new fuse box?  If so..where?  I spent about 30 mins last night searching for a replacement fuse box for my 67 Camaro and those things do not seem to be around anywhere.

Thanks guys. I know these are really simple questions but I'm way behind the knowledge curve when it comes to engines.  Really appreciate the info.

Maintenance / Adjusting breaker points?
« on: January 09, 2012, 01:38:49 AM »
Bought new points, condenser, rotor, cap and feeler gauges today. Now I need to set the points but don't know how.  I can seperate the contact points and insert the .019 feeler gauge...then what?  I know to turn the screw on the points but how do I know when the adjustment is done/connect?  Thanks.

General Discussion / Spark plug wire sets?
« on: December 29, 2011, 02:56:45 PM »
I'm looking to replace the old spark plug wires on my 67 with a 327 and have a few questions.

1) Why are some spark plug wires unassembled?
2) Would somelike me be able to assemble those sets?
3) What tool(s)would I need to assemble spark plug wires?
4) Currently I have 7mm wires.  Is 8mm or 8.5mm better?
5) Are universal wires acceptable?

I realize these are remedial questions and appreciate any response.

I discovered the Summit & Jegs catalog over the Christmas holiday and now have a newly found excitement for my restoration project.  The past few years I've neglected my baby but now I'm so laser focused with these two catalogs I can't put them down.  Guess this is my new addiction for now.

Mild Modifications / New Edelbrock intake for my 67 Camaro Convertible.
« on: December 22, 2011, 07:32:31 PM »
Hi Guys,
I've had my 67 for 11 years now and am finally getting around to replacing the intake manifold.  The 327 engine is the original but I have an Edelbrock 1406 Performance Carb on it which does not not match up perfectly to the original cast iron intake so there is a spacer between the two.  The spacer raises the carb so high that I have to use a very short air breather and the the hood BARELY closes.  Oh....I should have mentioned that I am not a mechanic, just a wannabe, so please be patient with me as I try to describe this as best I can.

I have found an Edelbrock 350-2703 intake that appears to be a perfect match for my carb but would like to know if I may run into any problems when trying to install the new intake.  Will the new Edelbrock intake fit perfectly to the engine?  Will I need any additional parts/pieces to make this transition?  Any concerns replacing a cast iron intake with an aluminum intake?  What about performance?  I will have a family machanic do the work since I know "DIDDLY" about this.

I was also able to find the exact intake at a local parts store for $40 less than one of the BIG BOY on-line stores.
Thanks in advance for any advice/direction or help.
