Asked questions about this car and instead of being open and honest told me off.

Here is why I questioned the car:

"Its a true Super Sport and had a 375hp 396, 4 speed, holley, 12 bolt, protecto plate is included." Cowl tag shows X11 and could not have been a big block. When I asked to clarify and send photos of paperwork told to go buy another car.  stay away and document in database.

Seller finally did send POP tag and it is a fake.

Decoding/Numbers / Buyer Beware

VIN: 124679N618052

Trim tag is an incorrect stamp. So bad it is not even funny.

Pointed it out to the consignment shop and they did not give a flip. I live less than a mile from this place. Any buyers needing inspection let me know.

General Discussion / Holliday weekend.
« on: July 07, 2013, 10:18:01 PM »
Happy 4th weekend eveyone. I bough a new fan a couple of months ago and finally had the time to install it. To see how well it performed vs. the old 4 blade, I got the SS out of the garage today for a quick detial and about a 12 mile cruise. About a year ago took the car to a local show, and driving throught the parking lot the temp gauge went about 3/4 full. Now with the 7 blade fan only a tick past 1/4 sitting in full traffic. Enjoy the photos. Next weekends task pressure wash the driveway.

General Discussion / 1969 Camaro Factory AIM
« on: May 04, 2013, 10:26:38 PM »
I am having trouble reading the bad copy of the 69 AIM that I have. Can someone with a more legible book tell me what the symbol circle 2 of the revision record on page A1 for UPC K02 says? The book that I have says it is page 263.

Maintenance / Wheel bearing inspection and replacement
« on: December 30, 2012, 07:38:21 PM »
I am considering pulling the wheel bearings on my car to inspect and repack with new bearing grease. Any recommendations or helpful tips before I get started? I have done plenty of front wheel bearings on disk brake cars, but I have never done any rears. I was also reading up on this topic in my chassis service manual. I noticed that it says that the front bearings are in the wheel hub and not the disk rotors like the ones I have done before. Is this correct for a front disk brake car, or is the service manual just referring to the front bearings with drum brakes?

General Discussion / Modified trim tag
« on: August 21, 2012, 12:57:50 AM »
Here is a pic of a modified trim tag from a car for sale on ebay.

The seller is disclosing that it is a replica so I am submitting it for future reference if it is ever for sale again.

Maintenance / Which fan type
« on: August 13, 2012, 06:59:06 PM »
My car is an original engine with an aftermarket AC added. With the A/C upgrade I am having some cooling issues. I have a non original 4 core straight neck radiator , but the non-A/C big blocks came with a four blade fan. My car still has the origional four blade fan. My temp guage is one mark below half while driving down the roadway, but I began to experience slight overheating driving throught the parking lot at the local cruise in. The needle on the temp gauge went to past 3/4 but not quite in the red zone. I am thinking I need to upgrade to a seven blade clutch fan like the origional A/C cars had. My question is should I go with a clutch 7 blade, or since the A/C is added do you think electric fans would cool better? I am also considering a 160 deg. thermostat.  I am undecided so I welcome your opinions.  Any idea what the actual temps are with the marks on the temp gauge?

Maintenance / Octane boost
« on: July 04, 2012, 01:43:26 PM »
Has anyone used an Octane boost additave to their fuel tank and is it safe to use on a first gen big block? I pull a bonehead move and put the worng octange gas when I went to fill up not thinking about the higher comrpession engine needing a higher octane. At first I thought I would need to drain the tank but I thought if the octance boost will work until I refill the tank with premium next time.

Maintenance / Compression testing
« on: May 11, 2012, 08:16:11 PM »
Did some maintenance checks on my 396/350 SS I ran a compressions test and was suprised at the consistancy for each cylinder I found the following:

1. 170 lb/si
2. 165 lb/si
3. 165 lb/si
4. 160 lb/si
5. 165 lb/si
6. 165 lb/si
7. 160 lb/si
8. 167 lb/si

I have not received the service manual that I ordered, but I remember reading that the range is 150-180 lb/si. So rings, valves, and head gaskets are looking good. Just need to get a dwell meter, timing light, and vacuum gauge to check the timing. Otherwise the car is in great shape. It takes just a few minutes to warm up idles about 500 RPM cold and then right at 750-800 RPM operating temperarutre. Other than that the spark plugs look like they could be replaced but minor.

Originality / 1969 Front spoiler
« on: May 04, 2012, 07:07:06 PM »
I have a hole in the center of the front sub frame where the center brace was mounted for a 69 front spoiler. Was this mounting hole in the sub frame specific to spoiler optioned cars only, or included on all the sub frames to allow any car to be ordered with the spoiler option?

General Discussion / Help and advice prior to purchase?
« on: December 23, 2011, 12:06:19 AM »
I am seriously considering the purchase of a 69 RS/SS. The car is in FL and the seller claims that it is an all numbers matching car and complete Restoration was recently done. Is there any assistance available from the experts here to help inspect the car and verify the authenticity, correctness and possibly an appraisal? I have not been able find where I can contact some of the CRG members to at least ask if they would be willing to help.

I know there are inspection and appraisal companies out there, but I do not know how well they know these cars specifically.
