Restoration / 69 upper ball joint rivets
« on: November 21, 2013, 10:21:27 PM »
Hey guys.  I searched but couldn't find an answer to my questions so here goes.

Will a rivet with a diameter to match the factory hole on my upper control arm, such as the ones sold by HBC, fill the space of the larger diameter hole in the ball joint mounting plate upon compression/installation?  All of the after market ball joints I've seen, including the Classic Suspension ones that seem popular, are drilled at a larger diameter to accommodate being bolted on.
It only makes sense that the rivet would fill whatever void is there as it is pressed but is this still considered to meet load/force specs?

There are no stupid questions, only stupid people.  So that would make me...... :'(

Thanks

Originality / 69 dual fuel line clips
« on: October 05, 2011, 04:51:05 AM »
How were the fuel line clips (69 SS double line) originally coated?  I can still see pale green in spots on my originals so it's hard to believe they were painted.  Is any one making these by chance?

Thanks,

Doug

Decoding/Numbers / missing hidden vins
« on: October 05, 2011, 12:43:52 AM »
After doing a search regarding missing partial vins I found a Sept. '08 post between William and Cambender.  William stated that Cambenders car was the only one he knew of with both hidden vins missing.  I believe I may have an addition to the list.  My body man and I were looking yesterday and could find neither.  The cowl and firewall appear factory and unmolested, save for some pitting under the windshield ledge.  We went to bare metal on the cowl looking for numbers and found none.  Is it possible they were stamped on the drivers side?  We only searched the passenger side.  The sheet metal stamp is plain as day on the firewall, K 39,  but no signs of a partial vin anywhere.  My car is a 69 vert SS350 with a 10C (68) build date.  I've owned the car for 31 years.  The partial vin is on the m20 and block.  Everything I have examined about the car to date points to original drivetrain with original car and a true SS350.

I guess I'm looking for confirmation that a stuck stamper was a possibility.  Have any more cars surfaced with both hidden vins missing?  I'm at work now and can't post any pics but do have some if that would help ???
Thanks.

Restoration / '69 front parking lamp/turn signal restoration

Is it possible to remove the bulb socket assembly from the housing?  I'm assuming I could use a flaring tool to reinstall but can I get it out without boogering it up?

Thanks.

Could an H 20 8 stamp dated distributor be the original mate for my first week October/68 assembled L48 engine, with M20.  The block casting date is I 20 8.  Thanks.
