General Discussion / Kelsey Hayes rims for 1969
« on: January 20, 2013, 01:33:37 AM »
Been tinkering with this thought in my head...

When a 1969 Camaro is being ordered, then built along the assembly lines, How long did it take K-H to make the rims to get to the car?

I wish to ask the timeline and process for rims to reach tires then reach the car being assembled.

Is there any timeline differences for the same questions above pertaining to Van Nuys vs Norwood plants?

General Discussion / Distributor Cam Piece
« on: May 29, 2012, 06:10:26 AM »
I've been kinda playing around with GM distributor cam pieces.
I have seen pieces with a 7 initial # followed by a degree #.
732 for example
32 = 32* (degrees)
532 for example
32 = 32* (degrees)
when we see a 7 or a 5 preceeding the numerical; what does the 7 & the 5 designate?

Restoration / 1969 Muncie restoration
« on: August 28, 2011, 10:28:04 PM »
Thought I would start this one...

I am in the process to do 2 rebuilds of M20 transmissions.

I am looking at the bolts for the front retainer, side cover, speedo tab bolt, and the bolts for the rear tail housing.

I looked at the transmission mount bolts that I have and they are TR bolts.

The speedo bolt at the tab is an "L".

So far, I have some SBC & TR tail housing bolts.

Can you guys offer up what I need to be correct for my M20's???

Restoration / 12 Bolt Axle GM issue Pinion Yoke
« on: August 08, 2011, 05:39:41 AM »
12 Bolt GM issue Pinion Yoke.
In this discussion, this inquiry is directed to GM Camaro 1967-1969 (1970) 12 Bolt housings.

Im starting on my 12 Bolt rear axle rebuild.
I am obtaining the parts for it to get it completed and ready for install when the coupe shell comes back from body/paint.

Question:
Is there anything to know about these Pinion Yokes?
I have to buy one as I need one for mine.

12 Bolt vs. 10 Bolt GM issue Pinion Yokes:
Are they the same or are they different?
I was not sure if the 10 & 12 Bolt Pinions had the same thread spline count.

Decoding/Numbers / K79 option
« on: July 31, 2011, 10:29:11 PM »
Could I ask you guys to discuss and define this option.
Most searches I do come up with A/C, TH400, or Z28 in relative fields.

Thanx

BTW, would it be worthwhile to add an RPO "code" category?
I am aware of the PDF list, but a place to discuss those...

General Discussion / 1969 Factory Strike Timeline
« on: July 09, 2011, 11:40:30 PM »
Question...

I apologize first for forgetting the strike timeline in 1969.

When did it begin, when did it end, and what plants and models were affected?

General Discussion / VIN #'s ; Order of Assignment & Locations
« on: December 26, 2010, 09:08:34 PM »
VIN #'s ; Order of Assignment & Locations

I would like to start this thread to discover & determine VIN information related to every car receiving one; IE : GM Chevrolet vehicles ( 1960-1981 )
In particular, I am searching this order for the 1967-1969 Camaros;  but not limited to these years and model.

A Vehicle Identification Number, commonly abbreviated to VIN (but sometimes incorrectly referred to as VIN number), is a unique serial number used by the automotive industry to identify individual motor vehicles. ( From WikiPedia-2010 )

Obviously we see GM used different regional locations to manufacture their cars.

I would to start out by determining when the :

1. VIN is established
2. In what order did the vehicle receive the VIN
3. What vehicles received which numbering systems
4. Who is responsible for the numbering
5. Locations where the VIN is established throughout the vehicle

Question :

Did the VIN tag on the Dash panel come first?

-OR-

Did the VIN # assigned to a Chevrolet vehicle : was it stamped on the Body prior to the VIN Tag on the dash panel?
