Restoration / engine compartment colors
« on: September 06, 2019, 08:44:40 PM »
Hi all,

is there a restoration guide that shows what gets painted from the chassis and motors parts within the engine compartment?   and what colors  ?

I have numbers matching 69 Z28, but through the years and previous owners, they painted many of the parts black and others orange, when i know they should be raw metal or black etc.

I have heard these types of lists exist for tri 5 Chevys and stuff, I hoping there is one for my Camaro

General Discussion / Window Tinting preferences
« on: January 14, 2012, 06:54:46 AM »
Hi

i was wondering what you all think of tinting windows on an all original first gen car?

I have a 69 Z28 and I live in So Cal, it gets really hot here and all my other cars i tint the windows to keep the sun out and UV rays

I always look at other peoples cars and dont see too many that tint the window's

anyone have strong feelings one way or another ?

I know i can peel it off if i need to, and I have no intentions of selling the car.

does it take away from the originality? or the look? or is this really a stupid question and I should just tint them ?

Originality / Can anyone tell me if this fender is real or reproduction ?
« on: November 09, 2011, 04:18:55 AM »
Hi

I was told that the fenders on my 69 Camaro may be reproduction based on the screw tabs in the photo

is this true?  how can i tell for sure?

the reason for this is because there are no associated screw tabs to match against them on the grille

ANY advice here is welcome

Restoration / Grille color
« on: November 05, 2011, 04:21:34 AM »
i searched for this before Iim posting but haven't seen this so here goes.

How do i know whether my car would have had a black or grey grille when it left the factory ?

my car is a 1969 Z28,  Burnished Brown Metallic with Dover White stripes, the car was manufactured in Los Angeles if that matters?

Ive seen other burnished Brown cars with grey grilles and it looks great, i don't know what made a car have one over the other

The grille that is on mine is black, but i know the car was restored in 1990 by the previous owner and they made a LOT of mistakes that i am fixing. I want it to be as close to original as possible

thanks in advance everyone

I have looked through the older posts here, but i haven't seen this question.

but..... how did they (the factories) decide which cars had front antenna vs rear?

from what i understand both were done in that production year

Restoration / Color quandary
« on: August 24, 2011, 02:59:04 PM »
Hi All,

Thanks so much for your help with my VIN question last week, well now we are starting to chose the paint and i am sincerely looking for advise of the group.

My car is a 1969 Z28, some schmo that owned the car before me painted it white with red (mustang red of all things) stripes. The car is a 61 Burnished Brown. So i am very inclined to paint it back to that color. my questions are as follows:

1   Burnished Brown is a metallic color, in its raw form, it looks pretty nice. However, are there any rules about adding more metal flake or a little something something to the clear coat without straying too far from acceptable?

2   i have no plans to sell the car but i do think original is best, thoughts?

3   what are the general guidelines for color considering Burnished Brown will be the base of the end result.

thanks in advance, your help is greatly appreciated

Scott

Restoration / VIN Number Question
« on: August 14, 2011, 02:46:57 AM »
So here goes

I have a 1969 Z28, made in Van Nuys, interestingly it is at a restoration shop in Van Nuys being restored.

The Engine is stamped 0656 as the last four digits

The VIN pleat under the windshield ends in 0657

so we take off the front clip, start working on the fire wall and cowl and low and behold, there is a number stamped in the metal, but get this....

it ends in 0656 (like the motor), except the 6 is "X"ed out and above the 6 is a 7

the engine ends in 6,the VIN ends in 7 (thus the registration does too) and the cowl has both.

I have spoken to people that worked at the factory back in the 60's and they don't seemed phased at all. They say it was the 60's in Los Angeles.

im not sure what to do next,  any suggestions or comments?
