Forgive my ignorance but remember I'm mainly a Mopar guy. ;D I was talking to one of my techs about his Z/28 that he has had since 77 and I got some pictures of the data and VIn and helped him decode it. On a Mopar the VIN is on the fender tag on 69 and up cars and only the Order Number (similar to GM) is on the tag for 68 and back. The numbers on the body are the Order number as well 68 and back, VIN on 69 and up. The build sheet is the ony way to tie a tag and body to a VIN on the 68s and back. How do you tie the tag to a VIN on a 69 Camaro? Does  it vary on other years?

Thanks in advance, Kevin

General Discussion / 67 body number location
« on: September 15, 2015, 12:04:22 PM »
I went and looked at one last night and I didn't find the numbers, any numbers, where I thought they should be so I decided I might be wrong. I believe there is one in the firewall below the fan motor that cant be seen with the fender on and I thought one on the passenger side of the cowl under the vent to the inside of the joint. So what is the truth?

I did look for the page that I have referenced before that had this kind of info on it but couldn't find it.

Thanks in advance, Kevin

Good morning all,

As my user name indicates I'm a Mopar guy, I haven't been around in a awhile but some may remember me. Anyway I have a 69 RS that I think we determined was not a RS/SS sometime back. I have been offered a 67 RS for what seems like decent money but just not as up on prices to make an informed decision. I guess to be clear I'm not really that interested in the car so this is more for my education, if anyone is interested in the car I have some pictures I would share. My knowledge of the car starts when I was eating lunch in a diner in Boyertown, PA with one of my service managers and a lady overheard the conversations and spoke up "I have this car for sale". Now that can always be interesting so I of course explored further. I guess she bought it at Carlisle earlier in the year and decided old car ownership isn't for her. Here is what I know about the car:

67 rs
327/275 horse
muncie
12 bolt (pretty sure from the picture but no dead on clear picture)
Originally marina blue with blue gut (now BUrgundy with black deluxe - hence the question about color change)
Has the data tag but attached with the wrong rivots (clearly a flag to check body numbers)
Reported 26k on the clock (her uninformed stance is the title doesn't say exempt so it must be correct ::))
"Restored", looks very presentable in the pictures but has most know personal inspection will tell the truth about the build
It's wearing turque thrust in a comfortable size
Ask is $27k

So my question is how does color change hurt an early Camaro, in the Mopar world it can be death to the top money. With that said, it really doesn't matter on low level cars such as slant 6 or 318 cars (no offense to anyone), clones or street cars, they sale on more curb appeal than numbers. The higher level or elite car prices can actually suffer to the level of the cost of a teardown and repaint which now a days can render a car valueless in some eyes. In some cases curb appeal has less significance than correctness, not saying whether it's right or not just stating a fact as I understand it. If nothing more if will narrow the pool of potential buyers so it reduces demand, in the end though it only takes one person hot for it for it to sale and get good money. I personally am not a complete slave to the thought but return cars to there original color when doing them and although I wouldn't not buy a color change car, I would use it as leverage and would pay significantly under value or I would walk. So how does it effect early Camaros and maybe specifically this car? I've been told by a friend that buys and sales muscle cars (predominently Chevys) that this is a $20-30k car depending on the lever of restoration and of course verifying that it is not a re-body (another death in the Mopar world, not sure how much Chevy people care), but I never really got an answer on the color change question.

General Discussion / I think I had a good day at the bone yard.
« on: September 28, 2012, 12:07:08 AM »
They had a 69 Nova 4 door, that had some prestine trim screws, an extremely nice seat of seat belts including the shoulder belts and these 2 little items.

I also pick up a double pumper for $20 the base is stuck and I have had mixed results with freeing them, but it does have 2 good center pivot bowls. Haven't run the numbers yet to see what exactly it is.

69 Z/28 I ran across looking at the 63 paint code car. What do you think the deal is, I see something curious.

General Discussion / Steering column schematic needed
« on: March 02, 2012, 04:58:32 AM »
Good evening folks,

I tore a steering column down a week or so ago for my brother to paint and I am gonna reassemble it tomorrow. I have built many and am very familiar with them but this was a NON-tilt and I removed the lower collar/housing from the colapsible inner column/tube. Most of what I have built are tilt and the lower collar unbolts from the outer housing. I thought an expanded view might give me a better idea how to hold the inner tube to reseat the lower collar. I searched the internet and could not find a good expanded view schematic. Long story short does anyone have a good expanded view of a 69 Camaro NON-tilt column?

Mods if this is in the wrong forum please move it.

Thanks in advance, Kevin

General Discussion / Car Brochure Website
« on: August 24, 2011, 11:52:37 PM »
A friend of mine sent me this, so I thought I would share.

This has to be one of the neatest web sites whether you have gasoline in your veins or not. This is a web-site featuring the original factory brochures for nearly every American car you have ever owned.

Pick the manufacturer, the year and the model.  Enjoy!

General Discussion / OK guys educate me.
« on: August 01, 2011, 02:08:55 AM »
As some of you may know we have a new member that is being offered the original motor and some other parts for his Z. I plan to assist him in verifying the numbers and date codes. I am familiar with documenting Mopars but am not completely up to date on Camaros. What we need is date ranges for engine parts and accesories for his build date. It would also be helpful to know the part numbers for the major components i.e. heads, carb, dist, alt, waterpump, starter, and the likes. As you post I will begin to chart it have us a cheat sheet when we walk in. If there is a CRG page (which I am sure there is) feel free to derict us there.

Misse we need the build date which will be on the data tag above the brake booster and will be in a month/week format like 12C, Dec third week.

Thanks in advance to all that helps, Kevin

Mild Modifications / 5 speed swap
« on: July 20, 2011, 02:17:35 AM »
I believe I want to go with a 5 speed in Cody's Camaro as oppose to a 6 speed. I have been told that a late model 5 speed will work fine up to 450HP or so. I have also been told that you can get an S10 5 speed and change the gear set for more strength. Either the Camaro or the S10 gear box will bolt up to an early bell and use the mechanical clutch linkage instead of hydraulic. How close is my info to correct?

I have located a 5 speed out of a late 80s early 90s Camaro with a 305, anybody know the gear ratios? How much should I offer, assume it's a core.

Thanks in advance, Kevin

General Discussion / Camaro related vacation
« on: July 20, 2011, 12:48:05 AM »
Good evening folks,

The second week of Aug we are going on vacation with the final destination being the Mopar Nationals in Columbus, OH. During the week however we have time to travel around and do as we please. This is an annual trek and we usually hit car related places and museums on the way (I have a great wife). There is talk of spending time around Pigeon Forge which means we will hit Floyd Garrret's. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on Camaro related shops or Museums along the way, we are not necessarily committed to Pigeon Forge if there is something we haven't been to or is of greater interest. We are traveling out of Florida pretty much where it meets Georgia and Alabama, so anything MIssissippi/Missouri up to Ohio is doable. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Kevin

Originality / Firewall picture
« on: July 17, 2011, 02:50:25 AM »
Does anyone have a picture of a bare firewall with the factory holes. I have looked a the ones on CRG option ID, the driver's side is good but the one for the left side non-AC car looks to be modified/abused over the years. We are in the middle of prepping the body and are working on the firewall and it has obviously had a few extra holes added over the years. A picture of the front inner wheel wells would be great too.

Car in question, 69  RS 327 (almost certain) 4 speed non-AC PB, cant think of any other info necessary.

Thanks in advance, Kevin

Originality / Good used sheet metal dealers?
« on: July 08, 2011, 03:11:06 AM »
Hope this isn't out of bounds but I am looking for a good used sheet metal dealer. Specifically I need/want a set of original RS fenders for my son's 69. Someone ran into his truck and totaled it (he's fine) so we have turned up the time line on finishing his car. Thanks for any suggestions, I will check back over the week end.

Thanks in advance, Kevin

Mild Modifications / 10 bolt disc on 12 bolt?
« on: March 13, 2011, 01:51:17 AM »
I have access to a late 70s/early 80s Trans Am 10 bolt with disc and was wondering if they would fit on a first gen 12 bolt housing. I know that Chevy 10 bolt brakes will swap over, but wasn't sure about the Poncho 10 bolt disc set up. Anyone have any experience with this swap? I am thinking I remember folks swapping late Camaro disc to 12 bolts back in the day, but the memory is foggy only bits and pieces.
