Restoration / any way to restore brake and fuel line finish?
« on: April 27, 2010, 11:12:30 PM »
I am getting ready to install my original brake and fuel lines under my car but they are dull and some surface rust.  Is there any way to bring these to life?  Blasting? chemical washing? paint type product?  an illegal with a tooth brush?  I have used the search option but everything addresses the bolts and mounting clips, the mounting clips were really blue from the factory?

My gut feeling is to blast them with some type of media that will not "cut" them but more polish.

Found this car after sitting in the Arizona desert for 17 years.  Amazing it has zero rot under all that surface rust.

Restoration / Control arm shaft finish?
« on: April 05, 2010, 12:24:35 AM »
Yes I did the search, no I do not know what is correct.  The finish chart that you can find on this web site  is not clear what finish is on the upper control arm shaft.  Is it 30% gloss?  thought I read somewhere it was natural unpainted steel but have no idea where I came up with that.  I finished media blasting all front suspension parts and have them in primer, waiting for the front end rebuild kit to show so I can make my car a roller again for the first time in over 17 years.  I love the media blaster, from trashed to brand new in mere minutes.

Restoration / Soda or media blast over rust?
« on: April 02, 2010, 02:33:32 PM »
My 69 was media blasted 17 years ago, primed and left to weather in the Arizona desert.  The car has zero rust but is covered in a surface rust, everywhere inside and out.  I was going to try soda blasting but he said it will still have dark spots in the metal when finished.  I may have to media blast but was trying to avoid all the sand that blows out of every nook and cranny when painting.  Anyone have experience with soda?  will it clean the metal or leave rust deep down in the metal and will this come back to haunt me in the future?  The soda blast guy said seal it with por 15 after blasting and I will never have a problem.  Also what media is best to remove surface rust, the car has no paint or bondo on it and its a bare shell so I have easy access.  Would a power washer/media blaster combo work well?

Restoration / But natural finsih will rust on my spindles
« on: March 29, 2010, 03:51:42 AM »
I am rebuilding my front suspension right now and Jerrys book says the front spindles are left natural but after the first washing they will rust.  I noticed this for other things also, sway bars, etc.  What is the best thing to do?  Paint?  if so what color?   also what is the best media to blast the spindles with?  Walnut shells?

Decoding/Numbers / z 10 with ss wheels?
« on: February 05, 2010, 04:32:45 AM »
My Z10 has SS wheels and not Rally wheels, is that correct?  I read they stopped making them around the first of 69, my car is a 05A build.  The stamp by the valve stem reads:

M1 and has a 9 centered under them,  3, stem hole, 15,  YA  Not sure if they are right but the research on this great site did not have anything like the M1 with the 9 under it.  Also did they start stamping the vin by the oil filter?  Thanks for your help, I have found so much info on here its crazy.  Kurt
