Maintenance / muncie trans
« on: June 18, 2013, 05:14:13 PM »
If this topic is in the wrong place i apologize. My muncie transmission or could be the shifter,(not sure yet) has been giving me problems from the 2nd to 3rd shift. It will lock in 2nd gear and i have to drive it home @ 15 mph. Thought it was going to be the sychronizers but they seem to be perfect, as a matter of fact all appears good inside the trans. The only thing i noticed and am not sure of is that the 2nd gear has approx. 30 thousand movement on the main shaft (forward and backward movement). Anyone here know if this is normal?

Thanks

« on: February 17, 2012, 12:28:42 PM »
anyone familiar with Knoch Industries door panels ? the worn out originals that came with the car fit fine, i have a pair of after markets, and what can i say, they just don't fit ! the door will not close due to binding on the kick panel and they pop off at the top.

General Discussion / windshield molding
« on: December 19, 2011, 01:15:04 PM »
hello everyone,
does anybody have any advice as to who makes a windshield molding kit that actually fits? i know that having the originals would be best but can't afford that luxury. i had purchased a set from Heartbeat City and as advertised original thickness, excellent fit, technically correct, the fit is horrible. i thought if the part was a licensed gm restoration part it would have to meet certain requirements, guess i was wrong. the top and sides will not lay flat on the glass withuout glueing them down (i would be scared the wind would blow them off) the bottom molding where it joins the a pillar and side molding is so far off the glass i can get my pinky finger behind it.
is this a common problem with these moldings or is it just me?

thanks,
mike

Restoration / ride height ?
« on: November 05, 2011, 09:03:24 PM »
i just installed a pair of Eaton leaf springs (5 leaf) under my 69 camaro with a 396 ci engine, i was told these springs would give me the correct ride height. i have not tightened any of the shackle bolts and have placed 230 pounds in the trunk which should more than exceed the weight of a tank of gas, spare tire, jack, tail pipes etc. measuring from the top of the axle tube to the bottom of the frame rail measures  8.25 inches.
what have i done wrong? any suggestions?

Originality / black tail panel
« on: September 01, 2011, 05:14:39 PM »
i have read a lot of post on the blacked out tail panel on 396 cars, but none have given me the info i am requesting today. it's not about what shade of black. i have a 69 camaro and its been quite a while since i have seen it in its original colors. the painter nor myself can remember where the paint line that seperates the black from the body color behind the rear bumper is located. a picture would be great, but i will take what i can get.

i am presently having my seat belts restored, but i have a question about the shoulder belts and am asking for some help. my car only came with one shoulder belt and i am not sure if the fold on the belt (at the anchor that fastens to the roof) is the same on the left and right, or are they opposite? anyone have a good picture of this ?

Restoration / gas tank coating
« on: April 17, 2011, 01:37:27 PM »
i have replaced my original gas tank with a new tank due to age, appearance, and mostly it had small pin holes in it. it has been recommended to me to clear coat the tank before installing it, I'm not to sure about doing this, has anyone ever tried this and if so did it last or peel off? thanks for any advice that any you can offer.

Originality / ignition key/door key
« on: February 23, 2011, 02:11:47 PM »
i continue to get different information from my local friends in reference to the ignition key verses the door key. some say the door key and ignition key are the same, but others are telling me the round headed key opens the doors, trunk, and glove box. so now i am confused, can anyone here help clear this up for me? the car is a 69 camaro.
thanks
