Decoding/Numbers / Trim Tag Help PLEASE!
« on: August 23, 2008, 03:15:17 PM »
Hello everybody!
My cousin bought a 1967 camaro about 15 years ago and has stored it in his garage the last 10 or so. His wife wants to sell it, but I'm trying to convince him to keep it to rebuild when his toddlers get older.
Anyway, he never bothered to decode the trim code, so I thought I'd give it a chance. And I am completely flumoxed. None of the numbers have matched up to anything.
I wish I could take a picture and post it, but his family is on vacation and I don't know where his camera is (I'm house-sitting). I will try and get a picture later. Here's what I have:
General Motors Corporation
13 05C
ST 67-22367 LOR28318 BODY
TR 260-Z H-H PAINT
W 2WG
BODY BY FISCHER
The VIN was at some point removed from the inside front of the drivers door jamb. There is instead a California reissue stamped towards the rear of the door jamb, but this also has a gash through it. The numbers are: 22_ _ 77U143639 (The dashes are the numbers I cannot read, but kind of resemble a C and a 3) and then there's some kind of control number under it.
So right off the bat, I noticed it doesn't say "Built to current standards...etc" underneath the General Motors Corp part. Another thing I noticed is that after the 67 the number starts with a 2 (22637). And, finally, LOR. What, half the car was built in LA and the other half in Norwood?!?
All this info is correct and lifted directly from the tags. I can assure you I have quadruple checked the numbers before posting.
Any info would be helpful. I am hoping to learn some new info on it, that'll maybe fire something up inside of him and keep him from selling it. We used to work in an old-school rewind-the-pump-by-hand-after-every-sale gas station when we were younger here in the bay area. He bought this from Mr. Camaro out in Fairfield, CA when he was 18 and I was 12. We had to tow it to the station and the owner was cool in letting us roll it into the garage to work on it. We never got to the body, 'cause hell, it took us 2 years to rebuild the drive train alone. Anyway, we have a lot of memories of working on it and the car itself is a running joke in the family and I just can't let him sell it.
Thanks for any assistance in advance!
