Decoding/Numbers / 69 June camaro with 10 10 paint
« on: October 26, 2023, 04:58:29 PM »
Hi, I never posted a tag of my original survivor, and it seems when a 10 10 car comes up, there is always concern they are fake.
I was just going to send it to Kurt (if he wants it), but if there is one or 2 at most others, please pm me.

I have been under the hood lately on the car, and thought why not share the info (but not to aid those doing fakes).  The firewall has B L K written on it (faint white-ish, likely a white grease pencil when new), or maybe it was BLCK letters, that I can check on and post a picture if anyone wanted.  maybe they do this to all the firewalls.

Decoding/Numbers / 68 z/28 starter date (made likely a mistake)
« on: October 18, 2023, 03:51:16 PM »
Would a 8 G 12 (july) starter be too late for a july 7 engine build date?  I screwed up and focused on the body date of 7 C and thought the starter was the early second week which is before the 3rd week of the body.
Asking the seller to not process my buy it now (fingers crossed).

dam trigger happy fingers today :(

General Discussion / curved neck 4 core radiator question
« on: November 21, 2022, 05:55:02 PM »
I am now confused on the aspect of the radiator in my car vs one I just saw with 5k miles on it at MCACN.  Both cars are black (not related to the question) but that is why I looked at the car vs mine.  Both are L78 4:10 cars. One is a M22 and mine is a M21. I forgot all the rules were now on getting a 4 core, and now wonder if a curved neck was part of it.  The 5k mile care built second month has standard neck (considered an early car?), mine made 6C (or D) is curved and is quite patina'd.  would like to know are both correct? did the curve neck version radiator come out later?  I know COPO cars had them.  Just wondering if I got the correct radiator now. Original owner said it was never changed out.

General Discussion / 68 z/28 engine
« on: May 03, 2022, 03:30:04 PM »
I don't know if appropriate so feel free to delete my post but I had thoughts of buying this engine to put in a 61 vette I have, but decided not to and thought maybe someone here can make use of it.

Broach marks looked correct to me but not a judge of the MO for an LA motor, or any motor for that matter.  That is for the buyer to figure out.  Could be great for someone with a real LA Z/28 not currently having a potentially correct motor atleast.

General Discussion / 68 z/28 wheel - spare (never out of trunk)
« on: March 09, 2022, 01:35:57 AM »
I planned to post a picture here but the image I took is too large. Thought it would be nice to post from a low mileage car, for reference.  The wheel is super pretty as is the tire.
Any hosting sites suggested? Been out of the car picture posting thing since the days of photobucket taking all my pictures for ransom.
Or I could text to someone until I figure out a good picture site.

Hi, I am having a hard time finding info here on the air conditioning option. A friend is wanting me to buy his fantom blue 68 rs/ss auto that is a fairly beat up California car, still all intact still, has a 396/325HP engine and it has air conditioning.
thanks.

Hi, have not been here for some years, and now that I got another Camaro (super cool 68z) I hope to be here more often.

I thought the percentage of black Camaros in 69 was like 1-2%?, and now I see its 0.6%?
Am I way off base on this being 0.6% for a long time? I just don't remember it being that low.

looking at car that is yellow yellow w/ black top
liquid tire chain option (documented)

how rare is the yellow combo?  I dont think its that rare as I have spotted a few of these in the past. but have no clue.

how many documented liquid tire chain cars are out there? how does this even work or get turned on from the drivers perspective?

Ok, so I know some folks thought I was nutts, saying my survivor paint black 69 L78 has a black painted tail that is a different paint than the body.

So I went and checked the black survivor paint 1969 427 baldwin motion camaro at the muscle car nationals this weekend (a car converted from a L78), and it was like looking at the same car as mine.

The paint masking marks that run at a 45 degree angle inside the trunk opening area were clearer on that car than mine. There were other details around the tail lights that indicated there were 2 different paints used.  I showed it to the original owner of the car, and his nephew (who owns it now), and they agreed 100% with me that it was painted, and their words were it was a different duller black than the body paint.

What was also interesting, was the sheer amount of orange peal on the bulk of the tail panel on the flat surface between the tail lights.  It was EXACTLY the same as on my car.  Both our cars have non orange peal trunk lids, D80 spoilers, but the tail panels look really different in terms of paint texture (rivers of orange peal, no drips though).

The car's VIN is in the 600K range, mine is in the 656K range, so they are a fair amount apart to say this did not just happen in one week of production. Both are Norwood cars.

The car has the same red hockey stripe paint and sticker attributes as my car too.  The stencil used for the painted stripe left behind small tic marks ever inch or so, and that was neat to see (only some original paint cars will show this).

I think it would be of reasonable consideration to now say black ss 396 cars got their tail panels painted following the standard process.

Decoding/Numbers / ZL-1 heads
« on: September 10, 2010, 03:52:55 AM »
I just picked up 2 3946074 heads. Where are the dates? I looked at them today and it was not obvious in a quick glance.
Are these fairly rare to find, or did they offer a lot of over the counter heads?
Would be neat if they were truely 1969 heads.

General Discussion / earliest 69 ZL2 hooded car? earlier that 12E?
« on: January 28, 2010, 03:26:25 AM »
I noticed this car on ebay (below) with rare ZL2 hood, has a very early date. Could this be an example earlier than the 12E earliest example ever seen?
My guess this car had to be built in the second week of december (12B?).
by the way, this is the second california built L78 I have seen with the heavy duty radiator as an added cost item (w/ documentation), (and the car has the 410 rear end). Interesting it is not the curved neck version on this car.

General Discussion / 69 endura jack (rare to find unrestored?)
« on: September 21, 2009, 04:00:19 PM »
I was wondering if my endura jack helps a bit in vindicating my car was an original endura bumper car? Its all mint original and has a date 9E on the blue part and my car is a june build car (vin series 9N656).  I did not notice the jack until cleaning out the garage this weekend and then asked a seasoned 'camaro' friend how rare these jacks are and he said 'very' and he has not seen an original himself.  opinions welcome.  I do have the protecto plate for the car and pictures of when it was new up to the mid 70s, but wonder if the original unrestored date code correct jack helps.

Originality / black tail panel on black ss 69
« on: April 19, 2009, 01:15:08 AM »
For what its worth, I had the garage door open and was wiping my black 69 ss car down today, with the tail of the car facing south, 1 pm in the afternoon. As I finished wiping the car down in the back, the tail panel color showed itself as being different to the body good enough for me to find the paint outline as it goes into the trunk at a 45 degree angel. The is no doubt in my mind, my car had its tail panel painted with a different black than the body. I rechecked data on this website and it appears to indicate black SS cars did not receive the black out tail treatment. Not so on mine.

I would say its 10-15% grayer in color than the deeper black of the body color. With the sun shining into the back of the garage appears to a good way to tell on my car.  I hope to get a picture but it would be best judged by an expert, I did find the paint seam going into the trunk so I will try to get a picture of that. Anoter way to also check may be with a paint meter as far as the color difference verification.

Originality / 410 gears
« on: March 25, 2009, 12:27:14 AM »
what difference would I expect to see on the 410 gear part numbers in my 69 BV rear end vs. a copo BE 410 rear end. Did GM really install different gear types between these 2 rear ends when the 410 was probably low production anyways? If they truely are different part numbers, has anyone ever seen the copo gears in a standard BV rear end?

Originality / black cars with red stripes and those with white...
« on: February 17, 2009, 03:52:41 PM »
I posted on this topic before, and still get confused from time to time.

so far I have found more that a few triple black cars with red hockey stripes in the midwest (mine, one 375hp auto - original owner, and a local 4spd car (wrecked). I also heard of another 375 hp in (minnesota?) with the red stripe).

The black convertibles I have seen, always have the white stripe. why would chevy treat the converts different than the coupes? The one triple black convert I know of is a 375hp car, but there are no original pictures of that car when new. the owner has had it for ever and said he is pretty sure it was a white stripe car.

Some of the old chevy advertisements have a 69 black ss car with white stripes (was that done for photo reasons? (red stripe may not show up well). it was before the cowl hood was offered, as that is not in the GM picture).

still confused on the red stripe rule for black ss cars, and why gm would treat an all black convertible different than a coupe.  To me the current one on the camaros.org home page (for 69 model) should have a red stripe to go with the red interior. But I am sure the rules for black converts are that all of them get white stripes.

a wild opinion may be only 396/375 hp black coupes got the red stripes (so far that is all I have come across, oddly enough).  black converts never get them so I can tell, even with red interior.
