Restoration / Dipstick tube 69Z
« on: March 16, 2009, 12:07:54 PM »
I just purchased the correct dipstick (according to research that has been posted) for my 69 Z28 on Ebay for $89 bucks!  Anyway, my question is: What is the correct length for the tube?  I have a new tube in a GM package that was supposed to be for a small block and measures approx 10 ¼ going around the bend.  The guy in Canada, where I bought the dipstick, said his tube (which was being sold separately) is 7 1/4. I searched through previous postings and haven't found anything specific to the length of the tube.

Maintenance / Revisiting past topic (clutch assy)
« on: February 10, 2009, 03:42:47 PM »
After reading the suggestions on clutch replacement I purchased the Center Force II, but haven’t installed it yet.  I was recently told that it will have a heavy pedal and that an original style replacement would be better.  I don’t drive the car a lot, but when I do I will occasionally get some rubber and go through the gears.  I realize on the other thread some have said the pedal pressure with the CF II is fine, but I was wondering if in comparison will there will be a difference in the stiffness.  I’m not sure what the previous owner had put in my car but it has a pretty heavy pedal now.

Also, I know that MacNeish says the bell housing is painted orange, but why did the vette bell housings remain natural color with orange overspray (according to the NCRS). Just curious.

Restoration / Radiator Core Support
« on: December 01, 2008, 01:36:28 AM »
Is it possible to remove the radiator support without removing the fenders.  The one on my car has two holes along the top, which was probably done for hood pins.  Classic Ind. claims to have a repo that is made from "GM tooling" that I will get if the one I have can not be repaired

Restoration / Traction Bar Removal
« on: November 19, 2008, 02:56:54 AM »
I want to remove the Lakewood traction bars that someone put on my 69 Z28. My question is what will I need to replace that was probably discarded at the time they were installed.  I am assuming that I will need to get new shock anchor plates and leaf spring U-bolts.   Also, did the traction bars relocate the shocks?  Any help will be appreciated.

Has anybody used the power steering kit for the Z28 offered by Heartbeat City. Or any others?

Restoration / Fuel Filter Location
« on: March 11, 2008, 12:05:42 AM »
Where is the proper location for the fuel filter on a 69 Z28.  I haven't been able to find it anywhere.  The filter is currently attached on the fule line and into the pump

Restoration / Pulley Alignment (help)
« on: March 07, 2008, 04:18:25 AM »
I had to replace the following parts with repo’s: water pump and crank shaft pulleys, and the alternator bracket.  Now the pulleys don’t line up and the alternator won’t fit on the bracket.  I either got the wrong parts or I have the wrong water pump

Originality / 69 Washer Reservoir
« on: March 01, 2008, 01:09:33 AM »
Could someone please post a photo of the correct location for a non-RS windshield washer reservoir.   Someone mounted the reservoir on my 69 Z28 similar to an RS.  I have the assembly manual, but I couldn’t find the non-RS location. Is there a chance it could have left the Van Nuys plant that way.

Decoding/Numbers / DZ motor VIN stamp
« on: January 17, 2008, 02:59:21 AM »
Okay I’ve got a good one for you guys. I have a Van Nuys built 69 Z28 without the matching DZ motor.  The motor is marked V0318DZ and the casting number is 3956618, which according to JM is correct for 1969.  Here’s the problem: The VIN has been severely altered in an attempt to match the chassis.   I believe the VIN was as follows:     1 L539977. Besides the fact that some fool tried to re-stamp over the original VIN, the number between the 1 and L is missing.  Has anyone seen the year digit missing from the VIN stamp?  I hope I explained this clearly.

Restoration / Exhaust Systems
« on: December 31, 2007, 12:39:26 AM »
What do you guys recommend?  My 69 Z28 has duels with some unknown brand mufflers and tail pipes just behind the rear tires, which I don’t like.  I can't decide on duels with X-pipe or going into one muffler.  I plan to put the correct tail pipes either way. Some have recommended Flow Masters, but I’m not sure I like the way they sound. I want it to sound good not like boat.

Restoration / 69 Z28 Power Booster & Master Cylinder Assy
« on: December 15, 2007, 11:36:03 PM »
I need advice.  I believe I have the original booster (but someone painted it gold) and an odd ball master cylinder. I was considering purchasing a new reproduction system, but there are literally dozens on ebay.  Some claim to use original boosters and repo master cylinders, while others claim the master cylinder is original.  It would be easier for me to buy a completed assy rather then trying go through the headach of plating etc.  I'm sure there are threads on this, so if someone can give me advise or direct me to the link. Any help will be much appreciated.
