General Discussion / oil pan issues
« on: November 27, 2018, 03:45:14 AM »
Just installed a new 502 in my 69 Z10 and found tie rod hits oil pan when wheel is turned to right and will not hit full lock . Any ideas ? Wondering if changing oil pan will effect oil pick up tube/pump. I had a 427 in the car did not have any problem, the pan is different shape but don't if that pan will work with 502.

I did the NCRA research on my car found out it was sold new in Memphis Tn.I googled Cheverolet dealers in Memphis & the second one I called a lady answered the phone I told her who I was & what information I was looking for.She told me that she has been working there since 1968 & remembered my car. She said they were the leading sales dealer in Tennessee & would get all of the hot cars. My car was on the showroom floor and unveiled in front of a large group of people (dealers & general public) . Becky the lady from the dealer ship told me that the all the people who work on the sales floor wore white & orange cloths , the show room was decorated with white & orange balloons, streamers , & flowers. So this pass week I took the car to Memphis ( I live in Texas) and they let me put my car on show room floor & take pics. I even got Becky to take a pic with me & the car. She is a sweet lady.My Z10 is a big block car although the original drive train is long gone I did install a 1969 435 hp 427 with a TKO 600 5 speed tranny. I believe my car is to be one of three sold in Tennessee.

I recently did a search thru NCRA on my Z10 and found out it was sold new in Memphis Tn so according to CRG only two were sold in Tn . I did contact the dealership and to my surprise the lady that answered the phone had been working there for 45 years and remembered my car.She told me it was on the show room floor and they did a big promotion with the car , one of the ladies that worked there took pictures with the car wearing a black & white hounds tooth jacket which matches my interior. She also said that other dealerships came by to check out the car because they did not received any Z10's . It sure would be cool to find original owner I tried the Tn DMV but had no luck ,I could not access data back that far online. ??? Anyone having idea's on this I would appreciate your help. I live in Texas I have owned the car since 1996 I did title search here it went back two previous owners found out it was sold at a police auction in 1984 for $10.00 it was abandon at a apartment complex with no motor or transmission . The guy who bought it made a drag car out of it raced it for 10 yrs and then sold the body to the guy I bought it from who put in a motor & trans raced it for a year then decided to put it back on the street. It was a 396 car and I think it was a automatic it now has a 1969 427 with a TKO 600 5 speed.

Was checking on line for Z10's for sale and found one in Hemmings that it was a documented number matching L78 375hp 396 ! This seems to be the only one found. The dealer said he had the build sheet with other paper work including name of orginal owner. Price was $300,000.00 or best offer. Then I found another in Hemmings that was a number matching 325hp 396 car for $135,000.00. Boy are these prices crazy ? I have a Z10 but it is not number matching & I am hanging on to it.My is also a big block car most of the Z10's were small blocks and from what I have found out total production is around 500 cars. Here is a pic of minehttp://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g89/z10paceman/Z10036.jpg
