Maintenance / Best way to break-in a fresh rebuilt 302
« on: June 14, 2007, 04:59:37 PM »
I've just received my engine from the builder. I'm a steel fabricator so I was able to fabricate a engine stand and mount my engine to it. I plan to crank it up and break-in my cam on the stand.
My question is [what oil to use] [how long to run engine] [what rpm]
I would like to here your opinions.

thanks

General Discussion / Street Drag Racing back in 70's
« on: May 16, 2007, 11:43:20 AM »

There is almost nothing to equal to the excitement of the hole shot, popping the clutch at 3,000 rpm, flooring the gas pedal, feathering the pedal to keep from spinning the tires to much, power shifting to 2nd at 6,500 rpm hoping not to miss the gear, shifting to 3rd with about 750 rpm drop and in 4th gear reaching the finish line at about 6,500 rpm, of course with a 488 gear, I believe I needed a 513 gear.
All that in a few short seconds.

General Discussion / Painting, soda blast first ?
« on: April 29, 2007, 01:25:56 PM »
I'm doing a nut and bolt restoration on my Z/28 and now I'm at the point of painting.
Is soda blasting the paint off to bare metal best.

General Discussion / Subframe to body, alignment
« on: April 10, 2007, 12:30:54 AM »
I'm concerned about how much tolorance I have on the alignment of the subframe to the body.
I want to make sure the front cap assembles correctly. The alignment keeps changing after I torque the bolts.

« on: April 06, 2007, 01:11:45 AM »
I have a 1111480 cruved distributor with a build date of 9A20. I had it done for street racing in 1979. I,m restoring my car now and I would appreciate any advice to return it back to original.
