Restoration / Steering column problem
« on: April 20, 2010, 04:40:53 AM »
After winters restoration having lots of job done on the car I realized now from driving the car that the steering is very unpleasent. It feels like it binds in at least 2-3 positions when turning the steering wheel. I checked on the problem by release the two bolts connecting the rag-joint and the it felt much better. I tried to tighten the bolts again in a slighter different position but the problem occurs again.

It can be said that I replaced my body bushings this winter with new ones in polyurethane which may caused this problem. But, if I remember well I felt this (not so much) also earlier. I read that the steering column can be re-aligned to solve the problem. How is this done??

The car is a 1967 camaro conv. with power steering.

Restoration / Body adjustment needed??
« on: August 24, 2009, 06:19:33 PM »
Hi all.
I have a 1967 convertible.
I did a front wheel alignment and everything worked out fine except one thing. They could not align the front with the rear exactly. There was a small error but we decide there was nothing to do about it and let it go.

Well, now a couple months later I got the idea to make a small measure between the wheel side and the fender and found out that the distance was bigger on the passanger side, see image.

I need advice how to correct it. Can the body mount bushings make this error or is there a play to adjust the body related to the front subframe? When I check the gaps between hood, front and fenders it all looks OK.

(Image is not showing my car - only illustrative)

Greatful for any idea.

Restoration / Door window handle play
« on: May 05, 2009, 06:21:15 PM »
I did a search on the subject without success. I will make a trip to US in a couple of weeks and like to take the opportunity to buy the parts I need to correct this problem. The handle play on both doors is excessive and I think this is a common problem on the 1967 camaros? Any advice what's wrong and where I can buy needed parts is appriciated.

Thanks /Emanuel

Mild Modifications / Exhaust routing on a 67 convertible
« on: January 20, 2009, 06:33:38 AM »
Hi guys
I have a small block with headders and try to figure out how to route my new exhaust (universal parts) in a proper way. I dont stribe for originality.
There is a lot of aftermarket systems to buy but normally they say "not for convertible". I want a 2.5" system. The output of
the headders is in line with the mid floor reinforcement and I have to angle the tube down to avoid a collision and then it goes up
again before the rear axle. I wanted to place the tubes inside the floor X-brace but the clearance to the floor was not good enough.

The bottom line is that I shure should appriciate some images on exhaust on thoose cars to get some ideas how to proceed with my work. ??? ???

Restoration / Steering column rebuild
« on: November 02, 2008, 07:54:08 AM »
Hi guys. I plan to tear my column apart and do some minor restoration.
The bearings don't sound as good as desired and the cancelling mechanism for the turn signal doesn’t work.

My question is, can I do this myself or does this require special tools and skills?
Is there anything to calibrate?
Anybody having an explode view of this as a start-up help?

Any input is very much appreciated. Thanks / Emanuel

Restoration / Restoration of the glove box door
« on: August 31, 2008, 07:42:40 PM »
Hi all.
My problem: The glove box door is impossible to open unless at the moment I press the button also push my fingertops between the door and the dash and pulls it out. When I try to understand how this is figured out to work I realize I need help from you guys.

Tell me, is there a spring or something to overcome the force needed to push the button so the the door pops up or something? Any suggestions to fix this?

I also intend to paint the dash. It's black and I need to know if the original finish is black matt or shiny? Any recommendations on a suitable paint?

Thanks /Emanuel

Restoration / Convertible top problem
« on: July 06, 2008, 03:06:57 PM »
Hi all.
I have a problem with my convertible top on my 1967. It's a petty this problem because when I bought the car the seller (American Dream Machines in Des Moines) claimed the top to be new and it was. The problem is that the top is mounted "too short". I mean first of all it's close to OK on the driver side but on the passenger side it should travel 1 inch more in order to obtain the sealing between the weather strip on top and the front window frame. I also have gaps (about ½”) between the top and the front door vent windows.

When I analyzed the car more in detail I saw they put an extra bit of rubber where the rear passenger side window will meet weather-strip on the top in order to hide the problem. I removed it and having now a gap close to 1". I got really depressed that such a lousy job was done. This was just one of about 10 different problems with the car, but this is another story.

So my problem now is I can’t drive the car when it rains because of all water flooding the interior.

Question:
Is there a way to save the existing top by a fine tune of the assembly?
Does anybody have some images how the rear attachment of the top to the chassis is?
Any instructions available how this is assembled?

I have the original Chevrolet camaro factory assembly instruction, but it shows nothing of this topic.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks /Emanuel

Mild Modifications / Power top for a camaro 67 convertibel
« on: December 26, 2007, 09:04:32 PM »
Hi all.
I take the opportunity to wish you all a Happy new year with a lot of sucsessful camaro projects.

I plan to go from manual top to a power top on my car.
I understand the whole frame is different so it seems I need a lot of parts to make this transformation.
To the question, I don't know where to search to get my hands on this. It can be new as or used parts.
An idea is to buy the frame as used and the pistons and motor new.
All help is very much appriciated.

Restoration / General kinetic camshaft
« on: November 09, 2007, 07:07:56 AM »
Hi
I have a cam that I intent to use if the specs are OK but cannot find any data on it. What I can understand it's a general kinetic cam with a number stamped on it (it's stamped over one of the holes on the end of the cam so it's hard to read 100% exact but..)

It says: C1H 2880

Anyone familiar with this company or this cam to support me find this information??

Thanks /Emanuel

Restoration / Sloopy steering
« on: October 23, 2007, 05:08:29 AM »
Hi all
Earlier this year I converted my 67 convertibel to power steering. I bought used parts, looked good but at that time, now I'm not sure about the quality. The car has been very difficult to drive, it goes from one side of the road to the other and I need to stay on red alert during the drive session.

At the same moment as I changed the steering I also upgraded the wheels to 18" low profile because of a disc brake conversion. I did suspect them to be the bad guy until now.

Anyhow, I did some more research and found the play in the steering wheel to be at least 50-60 degrees (estimated) without the pitman arm moving at all. On the steering gear box is a tuning screw wich I turned until the play almost totally disappeared (I still have some but much less than before).

Now to the question: Is this a correct way to tune a gear box or shall I consider it as consumed and need replacement?

Maintenance / HELP!! Starter problems
« on: June 19, 2007, 09:57:26 PM »
I realized short after the purchase of my car that the starter sometimes failed to grip into the flywheel starter ring gear. A terrible sound let everybody, up to a 1/2 mile distance from the car, know that I had a problem.

After a week or two the number of fails increase until it became static. I bought a new kit with a starter gear and also checked the flywheel. It was not perfect but I could not observe any major problems. I was recommended to shim the starter and when I installed the remanufactured starter I shimmed it on the outer bolt with approx 0,8mm ("0,03")??. The first start was extremly smooth and I thought the problem was gone. But....

Today I 'm facing the same dilemma again. What is my problem? Shall I shim even more? Can I measure how much I need to shim? Do I have wrong starter?

I dont want to replace the flywheel now at this time a year. I'm going to remanufacture my TH350 transmission during the winter and intend to replace the flywheel at that time.
Please advice. Thanks /Emanuel

The final decission is not taken, but I'd like to investigate what to be done and try do some planning. Anybody having drawings, sketches or maybe some notes how to perform this or something similar. Hopefully also with recommendations of parts to use.
