I was looking through the AMA passenger car specifications that someone posted in General Discussion and the GM Archives link. Page 94 indicates that the piston pins in the 302 v8 (z28 engine) were "Locked in rod". According to this GM document the piston pins were pressed into the rod, i.e. not "Full Floating" as the legendary rumor has been touted since the start of time.

If you look at this document it clearly shows that this line and column has the option to be "Locked in Rod", "in piston", "floating etc".

Over the years I have contacted several CRG members that according to them were the original owners of a 1969 z28 and were in the process of having the engine rebuilt. I asked them to post or send me a picture of the connecting rod, especially the small end. I never heard from them again.

Maybe I'm misreading this document, but if anyone can comment on this I would appreciate it.

Saying that it's a misprint is not enough.

Originality / 1969 z28 fuel line
« on: March 12, 2016, 05:53:40 AM »
where can I buy a new one piece metal fuel line from fuel tank to under the hood. I understand that a rubber line  is used from fuel tank sender to metal fuel line and then another rubber line from fuel line under hood to fuel pump. Other wise the metal fuel line is one piece.

thanks for any advice

Restoration / 1969 z28 flywheel
« on: October 23, 2007, 04:44:50 AM »
In comparison to other engine part date codes, where should the date code be
for a 1969 z28 flywheel.

For, example should the date code of the flywheel be before the engine casting date code?

How far ahead should this date code be. For example, if your engine has a March cast code
what should the cast date code be for the flywheel for it to be a matching part?

thanks I hope I was clear.

Restoration / Cylinder blocks
« on: April 28, 2007, 04:53:59 PM »
Jerry,

I have noticed that the pricing of cylinder blocks with the correct casting numbers and dates
for first generation z28's sometimes go for very high prices. I understand why this would
be so for restoration purposes. But, on the other hand taking the point of view from a
technical standing, what is wrong with purchasing a brand new small block with 4 bolt mains
from GM. When you buy a brand new block, you get a standard bore, the mains should be
straight and no cracks.

Is this an option if you have a early z and are going to be restoring it?

Restoration / 3030 duntov camshaft
« on: April 08, 2007, 09:05:13 PM »
Jerry,

I noted an original 1969 z28 3030 camshaft sell on ebay without the lifters for several hundred dollars.
I also found that GM performance parts sell the 3030 camshaft manufactured through crane camshafts.
They list the cam as having the same specification with the addition of being blueprinted. The cam
comes in a kit with the solid lifters. Is this a good replacement for a worn original camshaft or should the
restorer try to buy an original camsaft?

Restoration / Service Order Block
« on: March 25, 2007, 12:05:35 AM »
I went to the following web site
http://www.guinns-engineering.com/Technical%20Articles.htm

and saw this article on the 302 and a picture showing stampings
on the bottom of an engine block by the oil pan rail.

The picture had these quotes below it.
"This close-up shows the “SO” alpha-numerical stamped
on the oil pan rail, denoting this as a Service Order block"

What do these numbers mean?

What does Service Order block mean ?

Is Service Order block the same as CE counter exchange?

Would CE blocks have this SO stamping on the oil pan rail?

What do these numbers mean on the oil pan rail
from a 010 block?

Originality / 69 z28 rods
« on: March 23, 2007, 07:47:17 PM »
I'm not sure if I did this right.

did the 69 z28 come with 'O' rods that were pressed pins?

I'm getting to ready to buy some and the seller showed me the manual
that gives the pressed specifications. I'm not sure if he is right or not.

Restoration / 1969 camaro jack assembly
« on: March 16, 2007, 03:48:04 AM »
I saw a jack assembly listed on ebay that was reported as coming from an early camaro. The
ratchet assembly itself looks different than other jack assemblies that I have seen. Especially
where the ratchet attaches to the bumper. I have seen this type of jack one other time
in someones trunk.

Is this ratchet belong to another type of car, or did GM change the ratchet somewhere
during the year?

I have attached some photos.

Thanks 69er

Besides the 1969 z28 what other types of engines used the 'O' connecting rods?

Thanks 69er
