Decoding/Numbers / Rochester 7029207 4 bbl date coding is??
« on: September 05, 2020, 08:06:06 PM »
Good afternoon gentlemen!!

Can you figure out for me the date coding on the above 1969 Carb??   Coding near the above number reads   1494.  I was Googling around re. the carb number and I came across the same carb number with a date code of 2794.  Company selling - describing unit  7029207 is saying that the date code
breaks down as (279th day of 1969.  Where does the number 4 come into play on the coding of 279 4   ??

If this was a Holley,  the coded date would break down as,   279th day of either 1974 or 1984.

This is a big carb re-building company with a 99.5 positive feedback rate with many Rochesters up on Ebay and I really do not think they would make a mistake
in the production year..

What does the number 4 in the date coding mean to you guys??

Thanks in advance
Ted

Originality / L79 SBC 0riginal 327 valve covers
« on: July 14, 2020, 10:51:16 AM »
Good morning gentlemen!!
I have 2 sets of the above valve covers with an  "0"   punched horizontally on the lower edge of the covers.  One set is definitely heavier than the other.
Can someone give me a bit of history on these covers?? What did the " 0 " signify??
One Googles and so much new non-vintage GM  stuff comes up with the response(s).
Thanks in advance.

Originality / 1967 302 small journal connecting rods
« on: June 10, 2020, 02:39:04 PM »
Going through my listings and,  lo  n  behold I found information pertaining my connecting rods with 11/32 nds SPS bolts. Rods have had 3 runs on them at maybe 6000 - 6400 rpm at the most until the number 4 main bearing saddle cracked finishing the 337 c.i.
I have since located these rods and could someone tell me what color daub of paint is  at the small end of the rods from GM..??
Rods are "floating" type.   Bought in 74 - or 1976.  These are like brand, brand new GM 302 Z28 small journal rods that we had bolted up to crank 3838495.

Thanks!!

Originality / Original L79 valve covers
« on: May 29, 2018, 12:29:55 PM »
I'd appreciate a couple of photos if someone could post 'em.  I have 2  sets  and they are both original, but one set is heavier than the other.  Both of them have the oblong 0 lying down on the lower part of the valve covers.  One set has slight  pushrod rubbing marks on the inside..  Maybe I should've used a thicker set of valve cover gaskets.  What years and what engines did these beasts come on.??
Thanks for your response(s) in advance.

Decoding/Numbers / 5 numbered Rochester carburetors
« on: March 01, 2018, 02:07:07 PM »
Have  29202  +  29251  Rochester 1969  carburetors ..  Notice the "70" is missing from the units.    Anyone explain what engines / car models
these units are from, and why the 5 numerics instead of the common "70" numbered carbs. The Julian dates are;   098 9   and  114 9  respectively?
Thanks!

a wee bit of cleaning.  Is it okay to sandblast the pump without destroying its originality?
'63 Vette water pump p/n 3782609 with raised code GM 3 on the reverse of the water pump.  The beastie is valuable and therefore stands the question.

Thanks in advance Gentlemen!!

Originality / Camaro driveshaft identification and . . .
« on: November 06, 2016, 03:09:33 PM »
How do I go about identifying a First Gennie Camaro or Firebird driveshaft?  Are there codes somewhere on the shaft?  Is the driveshaft length different to Second Generation Camaros?  Any differences between  P'Glide / T350 / T400 or standard trans shafts?
The stripes are there but unfortunately, have long been painted over and have lost their lustre.

When did GM stop using the spring-loaded 'hard on the ole eyes' retaining clips on their U-joints?  Seems like a load of questions, and, you are right, but,
this is  the correct no-nonsense place!!

Thanks Gentlemen!!
