Decoding/Numbers / cam part numbers help???
« on: January 31, 2012, 07:01:47 PM »
About 5-6 years ago I bought what was supposed to be a 30-30 Factory NOS cam. Paid $$$ for it and to be honest never really looked at, just had the shortblock rebuilt. My buddy that built the engine pulled it out of the tube and installed it. I finally got around to putting the engine in the car and it ran about 100 miles and took several lobes off. I now believe I've been screwed I set the lash at .028 so it should have been fine. The numbers off the back of the cam are as follows:

11-25-02             pretty safe bet this is the manufacture date
    955 ???
0288           both these are on the cam itself
     D3

at this point My guess is it's actually a 288 hydraulic cam that someone stuck in the GM cardboard sleeve???/ any thoughts???

General Discussion / sold my 68Z back to the original owner
« on: January 20, 2012, 01:12:57 AM »
I guess I got "burned out" on fooling with the car after all these years. I had several people wanting the car but in the end I sold it several thousand cheaper to the man(and friend) that bought it brand new. It is home at last in Elgin SC.

General Discussion / 124379n632993 anyone know this car ???
« on: August 21, 2011, 06:16:40 PM »
This car was at our local cruise night Friday. Very nice car looked like a fresh restoration. Sporting a "real Z" front tag so naturally I had to look very close. There were several things that stood out. Just curious if anyone had any notes or memories. Thanks

General Discussion / I think I scored on E-bay opinions please
« on: June 30, 2011, 04:47:58 PM »
I know it's not 100% correct for my 1968 Z28 but for the money I think it will at least look correct to most. The guys car was/is a 327 4bbl 12 bolt 68 Chevelle all original, unmolested car with 53K actual miles. I thought it looked to good to pass on. Here is the link to the auction.

« on: May 24, 2011, 08:44:12 PM »
I need to send my original calipers (4 piston) and my booster for replating/restoration. I would love to send them to Jerry but can't get in touch with them  and I'm not sure if they even do calipers. I called Whitepost and they are very pricey.  Suggestions please

General Discussion / opinions---CE block or close original
« on: January 30, 2011, 01:16:45 PM »
Thought I would ask what you guys would do. My 1968 Z28 popped the original engine when it was 6-7 months old. I know this since I talk to the original owner frequently and we've become buddies over the years. I know where the CE engine for my car is (a friend of his brother still has it), but he won't sell.
I have the 477646 block discussed in another post which is approx. 2000 from my car.  A correct CE has surfaced on this forum. Should I buy the CE block and put all my 302 stuff in or run the MO shortblock I already have.  The car does exist that my MO is from but owner is not interested.
  opinions please  Thanks guys

« on: December 30, 2010, 02:40:15 AM »
OK in another post I asked if anyone knew of a 68Z with 477646 vin# and a fellow member told me where to look and for $4.95 I know that the car is in currrently registered in New York State soooo any police from New York that can run the vin??? it would be pretty neat to get it back to the car.

General Discussion / Original owner of my 68Z coming MOnday
« on: January 14, 2007, 03:41:47 PM »
I thought I would share this with evryone since it's a rather unusual occurance. I've stayed in touch with the original owner of my 68 Z/28 over the years but have never met him just talked on the phone and e-mailed occasionally. Being busy with family and paying the bills we've just never got together even though he's only 2 hrs. away. I received an e-mail from him yesterday and since he's now retired and bought a motor home he will be here after lunch tomorrow. He has not seen the car since 1971 so I'm sure it will be an interesting re-union.I'll post some pics late tomorrow of the original owner with the car.
Thanks Shupee
