Maintenance / Lower Radiator Hose
« on: December 06, 2010, 05:04:01 PM »
I've had nothing but trouble with my lower radiator hose since finishing my car. I've had 2 resto. GM hoses that the parts vendors sell. I think their made in Pakistan. Both leaked with either a tower clamp or a sew type clamp and permatex. What do you guy's use?

General Discussion / 2 piece fuel pump
« on: March 26, 2010, 04:08:30 PM »
Hello: I have been having a problem with a 2 piece fuel pump (AC) on my aluminum big block 1969 Camaro. The first one I used leaked engine oil from the vent holes. I sent it out for rebuild, re installed it and got about 3 miles before engine quit. I sent it back for repair and when I got it back it leaked fuel. The rebuild guy had left the screws loose and striped out a couple. I got a new/rebuit pump from Heartbeat city, installed it and the same oil leak appeared. They replaced it and now I'm leary of installing it. My friend at the engine shop gave me a special gasket which blocks the engine oil from the fuel pump. The instructions from the gasket say to grease the pump rod and recomends putting a grease fitting on the pump. I don't really want to do that.

Has anyone had any experiance with these 2 piece pumps? Did they all leak oil. I think it was an over the counter perforamance part and the only production car it was used on was the ZL1. I tried to get a different pump (not 2 piece) but the line to the carb would interfere with the smog pump. I tried pumps from other big block Canaro apps. but they were all the same.

Thanks for the help:

Restoration / Horn button contacts repo parts
« on: October 06, 2008, 01:38:37 PM »
Hello: I have been trying to assemble the horn contact in my steering wheel. I have all repo parts. There is a spring and what looks like an aluminum rivet. I have the terminal and plastic piece on the leads from the shroud. The rivet seems to be to long as it won't let the plastic piece engage with the slot on the piece in the column. Should the rivet be shorter so the spring carries the current and hold's the rivet in contact with the piece in the column? Any help would be appreciated.

Restoration / yoke to transmission tail shaft clearance
« on: February 25, 2008, 07:43:20 PM »
What should the distance between the end of the tail shaft and the yoke be? I have a slight vibration which I thought was the drive shaft needing balancing. When I got ready to pulling the drive shaft, I noticed about 1 3/4" to 2" space. Is this to much. Turbo 400 application.
Thks. in advance

Restoration / Correct side window replacement glass
« on: October 02, 2007, 04:31:00 PM »
Hello: I have been searching for correct side window replacement glass for a while with no luck. My original windows have a radius at the upper back corner, approx 1". All GM coupes that I've seen also have this radius. I guess it to protect thte weather strip from tearing when the wingow rolls up. All the suppliers I've talked to say they supply glass for concourse restorations and haven't gotten any complaints but the corner is square :D :(. I can't understand this, somebody must of complained. Are correct windows available? What do the concorse restorers use? Maybe Jerry MacNeish can help, I hope. Thank you in advance for your input.

Restoration / Horn Buttons
« on: October 01, 2007, 07:56:58 PM »
Hello: I have a repo steering wheel shroud, repo horn buttons and the spring and pin that are supose to make contact with the cancelation cam in the column. The buttons have wires hanging from them that are striped on the free end. I cant figure out how they are supose to connect to the pin. I looked in the service manual (the picture was small) and it appeared that the shroud had a spade connector in the middle that the wires hooked to. It also showed another wire comming from the spring that appeared to plug into the shroud. This piece isn't listed in any of the supplier catalogs. Does any one have a photo that shows this connection? Is their indeed another wire that is connected to the spring? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Restoration / Replacement seat foam
« on: August 22, 2007, 04:28:28 PM »
Hello: Has anyone ever used the replacement seat foam sets when recovering bucket seats? I have some and am having a problem as the seat botton foam is a lot thicker than the original foam. I called the company and they assured me it would fit. The foam is approx 3.5 inch thick over the springs. The springs are 5.5 inch high and the seat cover id 5.5 inch deep. All thuis togther means the springs will have to compress 3.5 inch to assemble. I don't think that much *()()* will fit in that size bag. The original foam was approx 2 inch thick. best as I can measure. Also on the foam for the back, it has the springs molded in. My seat backs have springs attached. Are their 2 different seats used in Camaro's? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Restoration / Brake line/Fuel line clip platform???
« on: July 23, 2007, 04:31:44 PM »
Hello: On the bottom of the floor boards of my 1969 01D camaro, approx. in the middle of the door, close to the rocker pannel, is a welded on piece that forms a platform approx 1/8" off floor boards. It is about 1/2" wide and 3/4" long and has a hole in it for a screw. There is one on each side of the car. They would seem to be for a clip to hold the fuel line on the one side and the brake line on the other. Does anyone have a picture of the clip used in this application.  As always, I appreciate the help.

Originality / Wiper trans.
« on: June 19, 2007, 03:52:15 PM »
I have read the comments about the wiper trans. being painted black, but was wondering if the whole thing was painted or just the arms? I have one that appears that the arms were painted before it was riveted togther, and the wiper arm posts and their mounting brackets were not painted. Has anyone else seen this?

Originality / PTB on Los Angeles Camaros
« on: June 19, 2007, 03:47:19 PM »
Not to dought Jerry Macneish's fine reference book, which says "the PTB stamps were not used on LA assembled cars". I also have information from the US Camaro club which states "PTB stamps have been documented on LA assembled cars". I was wondering if anyone has ever seen the PTB on a LA car?
