Trans-Am Camaros / Curious as to where one old T/A ended up?
« on: March 22, 2016, 02:50:30 PM »
This is just a curiosity question for you Trans Am enthusiasts on board here…

Does anyone recall a 1969 Camaro Z/28 T/A race car that was for sale in the Willows, Ca area around the late 80’s?

An acquaintance of mine, Jerry W, had the car for sale for $10K and I was interested in it, but I thought it was too expensive at the time.  It was a running car that had been raced for many years after the early series, so it had been upgraded and modified in many ways.  I didn’t buy the car, but I did buy a bunch of well used 302 parts from him…

I don’t recall any details about the car, not even the color to be honest.  But I do remember he had actual movies of the car racing in its early days which would have showed who’s car it was, paint colors, etc.

Just wondering if this small piece of history rings a bell with anyone. I always wondered what happened to that car.

General Discussion / Misc. info from another early LOS '68...
« on: March 08, 2016, 10:01:42 PM »
Have some general data and a quick question on an early ’68 LOS RS Convertible.  Ran into an acquaintance of mine last Sunday at Cars and Coffee and briefly checked out his blue/blue/white ragtop before it started raining (he’s owned it for maybe 15 years).  Noticed it was an early LOS car, 08E, body number 0043.  Scheduling sequence number was F239 I believe.  VIN was in the low 600’s.  He has three ‘68’s but I don’t think he visits this site.  One of his others is a 396 A/T with no console, and has the funny Mustang looking shifter.

When he first bought the conv., it was partially stripped (no drivetrain, etc.), but still retained some of the RS equipment.  It may be just an RS, but it supposedly has a correctly dated 12 bolt with multi-leafs (which seems a bit unusual) and a single 3/8” fuel line.

Just wondering if more accurate research or data from this car would be helpful for any reason or if it rings a bell in the registry as something of special interest?

Originality / M22 Rockcrusher applications / percentages of usage
« on: September 25, 2015, 09:03:02 PM »
Hey Gang,

I was wondering… has anyone compiled a list / spreadsheet that breaks down the known M22 rockcrusher Camaro application percentages by engine usage?  Basically, how many are associated directly to a 302, L78, L89, 427, etc.?

I believe that a specific breakdown by GM isn’t available (only the year-end production totals), but based on the many years of data gathering efforts by this awesome dedicated group of enthusiasts, perhaps someone already created a “guestimate” of percentages using known examples?

Beyond just a summary percentage, a more detailed breakdown would also be helpful:  How they were verified / source of data (such as window stickers/docs, orphan transmissions that aren’t with their cars anymore, cars that still have their original gear boxes), and even LA vs. NOR cars, etc?

This type of effort has been done before on other categories, but I can’t seem to find anything on the internet specifically covering M22’s.  My motivation for asking this is because I am one of the lucky ones with a ‘69Z that still has its born-with M22, so I"m curious as to how many (theoretically) were installed in Z's versus other applications.

So has this already been done and I just can’t find it, or is this maybe another category that possibly a “volunteer” could take on and then share the results with the community (like them cool gas tank date codes)?

Some of the group members here will be racing in Monterey next weekend, and I have a question for you guys.  Any chance you would have some extra space to park a car overnight near your trailers/cars in the paddock area?

I'm trailering my "barn find" 1967 Corvette (sorry, I know this a Camaro forum) to have on display in the Corvette Coral during the day.  Evidently, they want the Coral cars removed at night due to lack of security or something of that nature.  My car runs and drives pretty good, but has only been driven a couple times since it was revived (after sitting for 20 years in a field of weeds) so I am apprehensive about driving it to and from the track every day (especially in that weekend event traffic).

Currently my plan is to trailer the car back and forth down from the Pebble Beach area every day, which will be an excessive amount of effort and a pain in the butt if it comes to that.

I was told it could stay at the track if it was parked in the paddock at night, which is secured, hence my question.  I can easily drive the car to the paddock after the days activities and remove it early before the next days events begin.  You can have a spare key and drive it or move it as well.  I realize this is a strange request, but I'm running out of options and time.

So guys, any of you have room and are willing to tolerate an old faded Corvette near your rigs?  It's a longshot but you never know unless you ask....  Charlie

So I am just about done with rebuilding my 302 for my '69 Z and decided to change from stock exhaust manifolds to headers.  I'd like the car to be louder and a few extra HP never hurts anyone.  After researching all the threads I could find on the subject, it seems prudent to ask the group once again what the current best choices may be based on your experiences.  Every time I see good recommendations, I seem to run across not-so-good ones for the same product.

Here are some specs on my engine:
Bored .020 over with true final 11:1 comp ratio (custom built pistons with no block decking)
30/30 solid lifter cam (Comp Cams OEM replacement)
OEM heads with no porting
OEM intake and carb (upgraded to 72 primary jets)
OEM distributor (set up per CRG recommendations)
Roller rockers and a few reliability upgrades
FYI - The car has OEM power steering.

I also plan to keep the chambered exhaust because it appeals to me.  The car typically gets driven locally mostly / a Sunday-Funday cruiser.  No racing or drag strips, but maybe an occasional slip of the clutch to see if the rear wheels can still smoke a little.

I'm looking for an excellent quality product, that fits properly out of the box, and doesn't require mods for my power steering.  My first inclination is to go with Stahl headers, because they built me a couple of sets for my midyear Corvette race cars and were superb, but I have not used them on a street car as of yet.  Also thought about buying some repro OEM style headers because that would be cool, but they seem to be fairly pricey. I've had Hookers, Hedmans, etc. on my street cars which were fine, but not great.

The rebuilt 302 goes on the dyno soon, so it's about time to order some headers.  Any suggestions or comments, good or bad, from recent purchases?  Any new input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!  Charlie

1969 - Orphans / 19L529887 V0410DZ engine in Ca.
« on: December 08, 2011, 04:35:39 AM »
A friend of mine has a Norwood Garnet Red 1969 Z/28 with a 302 engine out of a Los Angeles ’69 Z (19L529887  V0410DZ).  He’s not interested in selling it but I asked his permission to post the numbers just in case the matching car still exists and could possibly be reunited.  Don’t know any prior history of this engine but the red car has been in the SF Bay Area at least since the ‘90’s.

I realize we shouldn’t post ads looking for particular VIN related items, but maybe in this case it would be OK since this isn’t a “wanted ad”.  I’m sure if the owner of the matching numbers 302 for my friends Z/28 were to surface (N5894XX), a plus or minus trade deal could possibly be worked out for the Los Angeles engine.  For all I know, his 302 could be in the car that matches the engine listed above?  Stranger things have happened…..

1968 - Orphans / 18N445552 Muncie Main Case
« on: August 06, 2011, 01:34:11 AM »
Digging through some of my ancient transmission parts boxes and came across a main case for a Muncie 4 speed - cast number 3925660.  VIN 18N445552 with assembly code P8E29.  Probably came from one of my old SS396 Camaros but who knows......
I'll post pics as soon as I have a chance.

Hello Guys!!
I posted this question on the SuperCar Registry site and they suggested I post it here as well (please excuse my copy and paste laziness............) :
"OK you Whiz-Kids, let's test your Braintrust on this one. Twenty-plus years ago I acquired a Los Angeles built 69 R/S Z/28 from the 2nd owner who brought the car back from Germany. Over the years I have tried to determine if this was originally an Export car or just one that was shipped over after it was sold in the USA. The previous owner (Charlie Brown was his actual name) told me had to swap out the Kilometer speedo to a MPH speedo in order to get it registered in the USA upon it's return, but I have no proof of that.
I managed to save about 2/3rds of the Chassis Broadcast sheet from the gas tank and many codes are still legible (after many hours of careful resurrection).
So, are there any specific codes on the Broadcast sheet that would tell me it was an Export? I've heard that they may have used a different sway bar and perhaps other HD parts? I'm open to ideas here........
And just for FYI, it's a Burgundy, flat hood, white stripes, black deluxe interior car. And unfortunately, the original 302 was exploded on the AutoBahn.....
Put on your thinking caps please !!!"
The car and the actual Broadcast sheet are deeply buried away at the moment so I can't run out and check any details.  The photo of the Sheet I have is partially legible so maybe I can check codes on that for now?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!  Charlie
