Restoration / Window Guide Plates
« on: January 07, 2015, 02:24:14 AM »
Need help, I am about to reinstall my door glass that my body man disassembled without marking the parts.  I have the Fisher Service Manual and cannot see where the 2 guide plates are attached.  These are the rectangular plates with 2 holes that are covered with a nylon type fabric. There are two per door.
See pic below

Thanks in advance

Also I might need some help with which bolts go to which parts, such as the window regulator etc slowly figuring them out.

General Discussion / 1968 Dealer Advertisement
« on: December 24, 2014, 02:31:46 AM »
Picked this up on ebay, was supposedly from a dealership.  Copyright 1968 by Merchandising Directors Inc
Appears period correct with some wear, color are still bright, looks great framed, plus my car has air conditioning so I couldn't resist.
Anybody seen anything like this before or something similar?

Restoration / Reattaching Harrison Radiator Tag
« on: November 30, 2014, 04:05:56 PM »
Might be a dumb question but I am looking for suggestions to permanently reattach my Harrison radiator tag.  The original tag had a small tang on it made of spring steel that has broken off.  The radiator is now installed in the car so I really do not want to remove it.  Do you think some JB Weld would hold it?  It is a UI tag that isn't being reproduced and not sure if the vendors would do a custom tag.

Anyway thanks in advance for your suggestions

Restoration / RS Vacuum Hose Route
« on: November 26, 2014, 10:32:59 AM »
On a 68 RS vacuum hose routing, does the engine vacuum line go behind the fender with the wiring harness while the other two vacuum to the switch route over the inner fenderwell.  That is what I interpret from the AIM pages 430 & 433, but I would like to hear from original 68 RS owners

Thanks in advance

Originality / Early 1968 Camaro Air Conditioning Condenser
« on: September 13, 2014, 09:05:57 PM »
Could someone with an original 68 A/C system (before 01C build date) post a pic or describe the condenser barb fittings.  On my car both fittings are coming off at a 90 degrees which appear to be more like the 67 condensers I see for sale at Heartbeat.  See link below for pictures.  I was wondering if they could have still been using these style condensers at the time of my build.

Was the seat belt clip in the 68 console painted black or bare metal finish?

Appreciate a response from someone with an original console.

Restoration / Strange hole in LH floor pan on transmission tunnel
« on: October 03, 2013, 02:58:35 AM »
I found a hole near the LH floor pan on the LH side of transmission tunnel about the size of a dime, was this a factory hole and any idea what it might have been used for?  See picture and hole below the gas pedal area

Thanks in advance

Originality / 1968 Console Automatic Shifter Plate Finish
« on: September 25, 2013, 12:10:04 PM »
If someone has an original console with an automatic from 1968 and can post a pic of the black console shift plate that the lens fits into between the horseshoe shifter that would be greatly appreciated.  Mine appears to have more than one gloss of black, higher gloss on the flat ends and side and flat on top around the lens.  Is this correct and should the raised edges show the chrome which is how the reproduction piece is sold?  It is part # 3921804 D55 in the AIM.  I am not sure GM would have gone to the trouble of having two different gloss finishes on this part.

Originality / 68 Camaro Center Rear Bumper Bracket Grommet
« on: September 21, 2013, 02:43:29 AM »
Any suggestions on where I can get the rubber grommet for the center rear bumper bracket on a 68 camaro.  The license lamp wire goes thru the bumper bracket which has a rubber grommet.

It is GM 1367472 and is listed in the AIM on page 172 UPC12 C4 Rear License Lamp.

A source for a used one would be great also

Any help is greatly appreciated

Restoration / Need Powerglide Experts
« on: September 15, 2012, 02:04:30 AM »
I have a 68 Camaro Convertible 327/210hp base engine that is currently undergoing a rotisserie restoration.  While in the body shop I had the engine sent out to be rebuilt and I took the original powerglide to a local transmission shop.  While the trans was being rebuilt we decided to go ahead an replace the torque convertor.  I picked up trans and new torque converter (PG4) and they sat in my garage for the last 6 months.  Well the time finally arrived to install the engine & trans back in the car before the front end is bolted  on.  Low and behold, the torque convertor will not mate up to the flex plate properly.  It appears the button on the end that mates to the crank shaft is too short and dosnt let the converter fit flat against the flex plate.  Flex plate was not changed and the previous convertor was sent back as a core so I cannot visually compare.  Trans shop said all the PG converters, especially the flex plate side were the same.  They even ordered another converter and the trans shop owner came to install and had the same problem and now says the flex plate must be wrong.  I am not buying that one as it worked before for 20 years.  According to the parts book the 68 PG part number 3852880 and the 350 version was different.  What am I missing here, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Restoration / 68 Camaro Electrical Wiring Harness Question
« on: February 27, 2012, 12:45:28 AM »
I removed an aftermarket radio and and HVAC controls and discovered a couple of wires that appear to have been cut and I am not sure what they are for.  I am having trouble finding the radio in the wiring diagram.  Anyway on the harness above the radio there is a yellow wire that has be cut.  I also have two cut orange wires, one is a heavier gauge than the other.  I believe the lighter gauge orange wire might be related to the radio but not sure.

Any help identifying the 3 wires would be greatly appreciated would be greatly appreciated.

Restoration / Convertible Top Restoration
« on: February 06, 2012, 05:50:11 PM »
I am in the process of removing my convertible top pump motor, cylinders and lines, as car will be heading to the body shop next month for a date with the rotisserie. The top worked fine before and I see no evidence of any leakage, but it was slowing down a bit when it was put up, but I have never checked the fluid and doubt it has ever been serviced.

My question is should I clean up the exterior of the parts myself and reinstall, or spend the extra money and have the pump sent out for a rebuild and replace the cylinders.

Your opinion is greatly appreicated

Restoration / 68 Heat Stove spotted on ebay
« on: January 01, 2012, 01:30:08 AM »
I just stumbled across an ebay ad for a 68 camaro heat stove & 2 bbl tube.  This is not my add but I know this is a very difficult part to locate, so if you have an automatic you should check it out as the price is fair.

Decoding/Numbers / Need help with alternator date code
« on: December 29, 2011, 03:36:06 AM »
I am looking to buy an alternator for my 68 327/210hp RS Convertible that has a date code of 8A12.  My car has an 01C build date and the engine casting was A 8 8.

Is this alternator too close to my build date, or would it be acceptable.

Your opinion is greatly appreciated
