Originality / Need pic of 67 Z firewall
« on: December 31, 2012, 03:48:25 PM »
I beleive my 67 Z may have an extra hole or two in the firewall. There seems to be an extra 3/4" hole above where the steering column comes thru and the gas pedal linkage area...and various smaller drilled holes more near the center wire loom and heater box area. I cannot find any reference to this hole in the ass. manual. I'd like to fix whatever necessary to make it correct before paint. Only option on my car besides the standard Z stuff is the very rare shoulder belts. Also car is latest cowl tag Z known...07C car, if that matters.

Can anyone post some clear pics of thier bare Z firewall before restoration for reference? or email to

Thanks in advance,
and thanks CRG, Max

Happy New Year Kurt and to everyone here at CRG

Hey Jon and fellow members,

I found this forum just a few months ago. Great job and keep up the good work !! I am sure I will have plenty of questions soon now that I am finally getting my car together.

Just for a little backgroud. I bought my first Camaro before I had my drivers license at 15 years old. it was a 67 RS. Me and a friend split the car and we paid 75 bucks...37.50 each !!   That was 2 weeks delivering the local newspaper for me back in them days !! haha ..Soon after, I read an article in a magazine about the elusive 67 Z. How there were only 602 made, and they had no emblems..just stripes and the drivetrain. Very soon after, I painted black stripes on our RS. We probably had the first 67 Z-28 clone ever!!...even though it was an automatic...haha

Fast forward some 35 years..I am finally bulding my real 67 Z and at last fired up the motor. It was purchased at Smokey Yunicks auction. I dont know if I can post the vid here, so here is a link to the Yenko site that has the vid.  I thought You guys would like it.

So whats the deal here...This was in the trunk of my 67 Z since I bought it...I always assumed it was from the car originally...I finally checked the code..and the date is 69,correct??  Is this a service replacement rim??? didi they use this rim for a different application in 69??? Thanks CRG

Decoding/Numbers / 69 LA Z..Real..or??? have #'s and pics...
« on: January 09, 2008, 01:45:36 AM »
So I tried to post this on the camaro site, but I could not get the pics posted...maybe here is better anyway...

I am going to be selling my LA 69 Z28...Ive had it probably atleast over 10 years...I bought it and it had a few things that were obviously not original...The has a big block...and the heater core has been changed to big has a non-original cowe hood and air cleaner...i dont think the spoilers were original...and it has woodgrain deluxe setup on the dash...the cars been painted a few times, so who really knows??  but im tryin to find out th ebest i can...

i thought it might be an original ss big block car...assuming someone had converted it to a Z...but a few things happened once I started investigating that makes me believe it is a real Z for sure.. about a few months ago, i found an old insurance card from a prior owner in 1986...i went to the address on the card and spoke to his brother who got me in touch with the prior turns out he actually owns a bodyshop and painted the car back to the originall silver as the car was orango when he bought it...he even says he has photos of the car back then...I am going to swing by there this week and talk to him further...he does insist that the car had a 302 in it when he had it by the way!!!

anyway..I finally dropped the tank the other day to find that the tank apparently is not the original, because of a foam insulation instead of the tarpaper type deadener...

So I investigated further and checked the numbers on the trans... i found the assembly date...but no vin
I raed that they put the vins on top of the LA muncies...soo..I dropped the trans...
lo and behold...not one vin,,,but 2!!!
so its an original muncie car...the trans tunnel is correct too...

I took the rear out years ago and stored it in place of an aftermarket moser rear w/ i went to the basement and checked the numbers... it seems like the rear is wrong?? it is a BU code 12 bolt..but I dont think the dates line up...

I took other pics there anything else to look for??
Are the rear panel bolt holes unique for the Z emblems?
Ill post pics..let me know what you think...thanks...

the car is vin L5038XX                                    Los 104584

                                                711                69 69
                                                 10B                 260

apparently a rather early car...

I'll try the pics hope they work...  trans assembly stamp...thanks

General Discussion / first Los 69 Camaro?? Vin??
« on: October 13, 2007, 02:25:28 AM »
When was the first 69 Los Camaro built??  my Z car is a 10B...  did they make 10A cars?? or any cars in sept??  would this car have been made the first week?? Vin L5038xx    Los 1045xx

would that be the 3800th car?? and 4,500th body?? or what??

the owner from 1981 is local and verifies that the car was a Z when he had it, but is there any definitive way to tell thats its a real Z without the original motor??  it has all the Z typical stuff..#'s match original muncie with Vin...original dated 12 boly 3.73 posi...discs...plate on frame rail..high redline tach,etc...but, I know some options have been added over the years as per conversation with prior owner....rosewood...cowl hood,etc...

Decoding/Numbers / ZL-1 Block...ME stamp??
« on: May 08, 2007, 12:14:38 AM »
I was reading a post on the yenko site that listed the Assembly codes for the Zl-1 camaro and vette blocks...I always assumed I had a block with a vette assembly stamp, but upon closer inspection, the block is clearly stamped ME... am I confused?? Im fairly certain this is an original stamp as owner has had this block for many years...

Im finally done moving my 'stuff' from one garage to all my 'stuff' is everywhere in a different garage...One good thing came of the move..I did come across the AC baffles to my 69 vert after about 15 years being'lost' in my old garage.... my car is almost done so I have a few questions....are they really needed for the AC to work well? if so, can I still install them now that the car is all together?? and finally, what do you think they are worth if I decide not to use them on my car?

   thanks CRG

what color should the heater box be on a 69? its a bit glossier than the firewall isnt it? is the aftermarket interior heater box/ firewall insulation the way to go when reassembling the dash there any tips that might help...I am assembling a basket case, so i did not take it apart...a bit harder I guess...
