Originality / 1967 SMALL Journal Crank...revisited
« on: October 22, 2012, 03:32:09 AM »
I was looking for the mixed journal sizes here for my Jan 1967 built SS350 engine. Was surprised to see that this subject has not been confirmed yet.
After reading a previous thread (http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=8402.0) I became even more confused. The reason this ORG exists
is because GM didn't do well when it came to documenting anything in the late 60's. I was surprised at how quick some were to tell the previous poster
that the subject was closed for discussion. The mixed Journal crank does exist. I have one. My machinist here in Sacaramento knew it when I took it to him.
He just called it the ONE YEAR crank. Small main, large rod, journal crank. The previous discussion did not even mention that the MAIN CAPS are short as well as the MAIN BOLTS. The new main bolts I ordered are way too long. My block was still standard bore. (Casting number 3892657) (Date A97) (Crank Cast# 2690)
Original heads, intake, waterpump, alternator, ditributor, Starter. Balancer is a 6966 if that is correct?
So, as far as I can tell the block has not been rebuilt. (Still had the original paint splotches on the rear)
The mention that racers may have turned these cranks doesnt make up for the short caps and bolts.
Besides, if it was raced it wouldn't have ended up back in a bone stock engine. So that is out.
Also, how many people here with an original 1967 350 that THEY have rebuilt are the ones providing answers?

Originality / "SS-350" Badging dropped in Jan '67?
« on: March 21, 2009, 06:30:25 PM »
Just read this @ http://www.camaros.org/exterior.shtml#SSHood

...When the SS-396 was introduced in January 1967, the badges were changed for all SS models to read "SS".""

WHEN in January did this happen? I have an 01D '67 SS-350 with an original SS-350 grill emblem and gas cap. The guy I got it from in 2001 had several
early Camaro projects. He had replaced the original gold interior with an original black interior. So who knows if the SS-350 emblems were original to my car.

Anyone have a 4th week January "SS-350" with just "SS" badging?

Originality / 1967 Dipstick...3896912?
« on: March 11, 2009, 04:18:54 PM »
Trying to figure out what an original 1967 dipstick looks like. Parts catalogue says - Camaro V8 (exc 396) - 3896912.
So, did base, SS 350, and Z28 all use the same stick?
Also, did the stick have the dark red button and was the top of the handle shaped like a "P" or an "O" centered on top of the stick?

Restoration / Anyone reproducing 1967 K19 smog hoses??
« on: March 02, 2009, 06:13:34 PM »
Can't seem to find reproduced hoses for my K19 Smog system.
I have a '67 SS-350 and have all the hardware but the hoses are brittle and beat up.
Corvette supply houses have some repro hoses but seem to be the wrong numbers.
Any ideas?

Decoding/Numbers / eBay VO127DZ no VIN w/ - A 17 8 - Cast date??
« on: February 19, 2009, 05:37:48 AM »
eBay item:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330308332947&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123

Claims standard bore '69 302 4 bolt -VO127DZ- NO VIN on the pad and a picture of an "A 17 8" cast date.

Or is it a "9" that just looks like an 8?

E-mailed me with claim of number stamped by the oil filter mount "...ending in 007"

The assembly paint swatches I found after tearing down my original '67 SS-350. Doubt the judges will be looking for these. ;D

Decoding/Numbers / 01D '67 - Powerglide w/ December '66 style stamp
« on: February 02, 2009, 10:31:51 PM »
Having a hard time deciphering the date code for my powerglide.
My car is a January '67 (01D)
According to "Chevrolet By The Numbers" The pan stamp is a '66 style code.
So, T 12 06N = Toledo - December 6th - Night Shift.
Is that December 6th, 1966?
So did the '67 and later style stamp that included the year start in 1967?
And are those the assembly date or Model Year?

Hope this makes sense.  ???

Originality / '67 SS-350 CHROME wiper motor cover???
« on: January 19, 2009, 06:55:09 PM »
I found a '67 rs/ss in '01 that looked 34 years old under the hood. Has original motor, trans, alternator, etc. as well as the original chrome air cleaner lid, valve covers, oil fill tube w/ flat chrome cap all in need of attention. But the wiper motor, looking old as well, has a chrome end cover with the correct number stamped in it along with chrome 'long bolts' holding it on.  Was a chrome wiper motor end cover ever part of the SS underhood chrome dress-up? Thanks, Gary
