General Discussion / Solid Lifters
« on: April 05, 2007, 02:22:59 AM »
I have a set of 16 lifters supposedly for a 69 DZ engine. They are all in the original GM boxes. They all are marked GR 0.459 1#5232695. One of the boxes is smaller than the rest. This smaller box says ML-5. The other 15 all say ED5. The lifters all look identical. Is there any difference?

Decoding/Numbers / Muncie Side Covers
« on: March 23, 2007, 10:41:34 PM »
I have an M-21 with an assembly stamp of P8H08 and and an M-22 dated P8R30. Both have 660 main cases and a 584 tailshaft housings. The M-21 has a 3952648 side cover and the M-22 has a 3884685.  Are either of these correct?  If not, what is?  When were the 306 side covers introduced?

General Discussion / Car Insurance
« on: February 23, 2007, 04:54:41 AM »
Who do you guys use to insure your cars? I know there are probably many specialty classic and antique insurance companies to chose from but was wondering if there was one or two that are considered better or more reputable than others (or perhaps some I should avoid). Any names or suggestions would be appreciated.

General Discussion / Tire Pressure Stickers
« on: February 15, 2007, 03:30:26 AM »
The 67's and 68's had the tire air pressure stickers on the inside of the glove box door and the 69's were on the door. I found a sticker on the inside of the glove box door (in the circle on the driver's side) on my 11C 69.  The part # is 3934882.  There is an an "AG" inside the bowtie and the tires are E70-15.  The car was repainted when I got it so there were no stckers on the door.  This sticker inside the glove box is yellowed and wrinkled and sure looks old enough to be original.  Was the location of these stickers changed with the model year or the calender year or somewhere in between?  Still trying to figure out  what's in my garage.

General Discussion / Engine Assembly Stamps
« on: February 10, 2007, 08:06:59 PM »
Does anybody know if the Flint assembly plant worked on Saturdays in the fall (Oct. ) of '68.   Or.....does anyone else have a motor with a Saturday date stamp?

Restoration / Hurst Shifter
« on: February 07, 2007, 05:57:51 PM »
Before I break it, is there a trick to getting the pressed-in round style Hurst shifter handle out of the body? There appears to be a metal shim on each side of the handle where it fits into the lever on the shifter body.

Originality / Is my DZ motor a phony?
« on: February 01, 2007, 03:47:30 AM »
About a year ago I purchased a short block assembly that was date correct for the car I am restoring.  I have an 11C built car (19N545911) that was supposed to be a real deal pre-X Z.  (2 years and many Benjamins later, I still can't prove or disprove - to my satisfaction - whether it is/was a Z, but that's another story.)  The motor is a 386 block, casting date J 17 8, and an assembly stamp V1019DZ. If it makes any difference on the bogus meter 10-19-68 was a Saturday. The VIN stamp is difficult to read and could only be seen with a magnifying glass after I got the bare block back from the machine shop. It's by the oil filter and I'm pretty sure reads 19N533186. Does this sequence fit with the motor build date? Also, weren't the early VIN's stamped on the engine pad and later moved to the area above the oil filter to save time pulling the alternator on the assembly line? The motor has been rebuilt from carb to pan, and from a component standpoint is every bit a "DZ".  I just need to know if the block is a factory original.  Out of frustration, I may end up be selling the entire lot, and even though I purchased everything as "authentic", I can't, in good conscience, sell it that way if it isn't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  And yes, not surprisingly, I'm considering buying some ocean front property in Phoenix.

Restoration / Correct Seat Belt Color
« on: June 13, 2006, 04:11:24 AM »
What are the correct color seat belts for an 11C built 69 with 721 interior?  Also, are there any parts of the interior that are anything other than the medium "puke" green?  I've noticed some components, like the dash pad, seem to only be offered in dark green while others are black only.  Is this correct or do you buy what is offered and dye everything medium green?   I have nothing to start with and need to buy a complete interior. Any suggestions or advice would be welcomed.

Originality / CORRECT HEAD AND INTAKE BOLTS FOR A 69 Z/28
« on: June 05, 2006, 10:15:58 PM »
Can anyone tell me what the head and intake bolts look like and what are the correct markings for each?  Are the bolts for the 302's different than the other small blocks. I thought the intake bolts were a standard hex head (no washer) Grade 5 with an "M" in the middle. Someone's tying to sell me "NOS 302" intake bolts that have a recessed head with an "H" inside a "C" with the built-in washer style head.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.
