Restoration / Flattening Paint ..PPG Urethane
« on: February 24, 2009, 02:01:10 AM »
Q1. Has anyone formulated the PPG Urethane paint with the flattener to get 30% gloss and 60% gloss????
Q2. Did the 67 dash top get suede paint like the 69 or just flattened?
Q3. Would 30% gloss be the same as 70% flat??

If no one has done this I will do it but what a pain it will be  :-[ , where should I find samples to match???? (maybe donations :-\ )

Thanx
Buddy

Restoration / Trim Tag Q
« on: December 20, 2008, 02:56:08 AM »
I hope I am not being a pest here but I have another Question  ???

Here is another one of my future projects, it was wrecked in 1975 (7 years old) and was parted out until I rescued it ?????

Question is , I cannot figure out whether the trim tag was painted black before it was installed which would explain the white body color over spray on top? Did the firewall blackout not go up to the trim tag which would explain body color over spray?

Opinions and conjecture please. Something seems weird, this is a totally original car, what left anyway.

Thanx

Restoration / SS Bumble Bee Stripe
« on: December 19, 2008, 02:30:53 PM »
Does anyone have the spacing/dimensions of the Bumble Bee stripe where it breaks around the SS Emblem? And also some help with where it ended at the Bumper.

This would be correct for 67 right?

Restoration / Fisher Body Paint Shop
« on: December 19, 2008, 02:28:16 PM »
I need verification on the first primer coat as stated in the CRG document http://www.camaros.org/assemblyprocess.shtml , the second high build coat is called out as Gray.

I assume the first primer coat was GRAY also, and that the undercarriage when the car was complete was this first coat of primer(Gray) and the overspray from the body color and rocker blackout when used.

Is this correct?

Restoration / Judging Question on Radiators.
« on: December 17, 2008, 07:25:19 PM »
I have an Original BB 3core Harrison Radiator (IL,OM tanks and UO tag) that needs a re-core. The original radiator has 4 core tanks with only 3 cores which offsets it to the front. I took it to the shop and they ordered a new core, which is 3 core but it is centered in the tanks. Will this make a difference with a Judge or will I need a special core made ?

Restoration / I'm dying here with Paint research. Aarrrrgggg!!!!

67 RS/SS 396 Madeira Maroon with Black Interior.

I have my Camaro ready to reassemble and trying to determine what gets painted first with what paint, color, gloss%, overspray items, Interior color, firewall,  etc.etc.etc.  Spatter paint seems to be a whole different headache all together..OUCH!

Is there a written guide to the paint process during assembly?? This research is taking forever with he said this and she said something different, use this paint don't use this one, overspray here, feather there ...ugh!

My car is on a rotisserie and I at least need to know what to paint the bottom, wells etc.. before I put the frame and rearend back in. Also what to paint the rearend and subframe. Is there an all knowing person for this?

JohnZ where are you?
Thanx so much for any assistance.

General Discussion / Selling Everything.........OUCH!
« on: August 23, 2007, 10:42:18 PM »
OK...I know I am making the biggest mistake of my life but I am going to sell all my cars and parts. I need a little advice. They are all in one stage or another of restoration and I am not wanting to finish any. They have all sat for the last 5 years and now the county I live in is taking my home and shop for a new road.

Should I try and sell the whole lot or one at a time? Is Ebay the best option? I would like someone to just take everything at once because I will give the deal of the century to someone.

67 RS/SS 396 L35 AUTO NUMBERS CAR W/HEADRESTS
67 RS/SS BODY RED/RED
70 Corvette Conv 350/350 4SP A/C
66 Caprice 396 blue
66 Caprice 396 maroon
63 Jaguar MK10

I would like $60k if Interested. I am not looking to sell here but get advice.

It would be nice to have an EBAY watch topic that people can post findings on Ebay in.

Just a thought

Restoration / Cowl Tag Rivet Installation
« on: April 16, 2006, 05:25:16 PM »
Anybody...

Do you know how GM installed the Cowl Tag  rivets? Did they have a mandrel or special tool? or did they just use a punch and some body sealer? I need this info for my 57 restoration.

Thanx

Restoration / 67-68 Qtr Pnl Corner Bumper reinforcement
« on: December 28, 2005, 02:32:33 PM »
HELP!  I can't seem to find the corner qtr pnl / rear bumper inside reinforcement pieces. They are welded on the inside of the qtr pnl on the corner where the outer bumper brackets are mounted.  My restoration project had new qtr skins from the previous owner who left them out. Rick's doesn't carry them, are they being reproduced? Does anyone have an old parts car I can get them from?

Thx

Restoration / Opinions needed....67 Body
« on: November 01, 2005, 09:52:35 PM »
I would like to hear differing opinions on how to finish the under carriage as well as frame and rearend from bare metal to finish. I will be starting mine in a couple weeks when I get it back from sheetmetal work. Also would like to know what the factory did?

Thanx
Buddy
