Originality / Zerk Fitting on Clutch Cross Shaft
« on: July 27, 2016, 08:16:26 PM »
Does anyone know if Chevrolet Assembly put a zerk fitting on the clutch cross shaft (z-bar) or used a plastic plug to fill the zerk fitting hole?  The AIM does not show either so the z-bar assembly had one or the other.  I know the Corvettes used a plastic plug (orange or red) in place of the zerk fitting.  A zerk fitting was to be installed during maintenance.  The car is a 1969 Camaro.

Restoration / 1969 Camaro Ignition Lock and key buzzer
« on: June 21, 2016, 01:35:43 AM »
I had to replace the ignition lock assembly on my steering column.  I used a Standard Auto Parts quality lock.  When I installed the new lock (after changing the key tumblers) I noticed the lock has a gap of about 1/8 inch between the lock and the steering column housing and can be pushed in and out about 1/8 inch.  The key buzzer works if you push the lock in.  If the lock is in the out position with the 1/8 inch gap the buzzer will not work.  The lock is correctly retained in the column housing and if you look in the hole for the buzzer switch you can correctly see the tab in the lock.  The lock seems to have more play (in and out) than normal.  All the other functions of the lock work successfully.

This was not a problem with the original lock (missing the chrome bezel).  Has anyone had a similar problem with a replacement lock?  The column housing does not appear to be damaged.

Thanks

Restoration / 69 Camaro Standard Steering Column Spring
« on: May 01, 2016, 11:48:46 PM »
I have a 69 Camaro with the standard steering column floor shift.  I have started to put the column together from pieces and find I am missing the "Shift Tube Spring".  This is item number 27 in the Service Manual.  It is called out in Step 7 in the Assembly Procedures in the Service Manual.  It looks like it is by the Shift Tube Lock Plate (item 26).

I do not have the spring and wonder if there is really a spring in the column and if so could someone tell me the dimensions of the spring.  I looked at the column and really can't see where it would go if I had one (there is no wear where a spring would have gone).

Thanks for your help.

Originality / ZL1 fuel pump
« on: October 06, 2015, 02:24:57 PM »
I have questions on the ZL1 fuel pump and fuel lines.   It all started with my 40170 fuel pump that I put on the car in 1969.

First it appears that 40731 fuel pump and a matching fuel line was called out in the Add/Delete/Replace section of the ZL1 engineering data.  The 40731 moves the fuel inlet and outlet locations clockwise compared to my 40170.  This would definitely require a new fuel line.

My 40170 fuel pump can be installed without a new fuel line.  Early vintage pictures show the fuel line near the fuel block looking like a normal L78 fuel line.

Does anyone know if the 40170 fuel pump was actually used in the production line ZL1?

Does anyone have actual vintage pictures of the installed fuel pump and fuel lines.  I am especially interested in the inlet rubber hose, the inlet connector 90 degree elbow and the outlet fuel line on the 40731 fuel pump.

I assume the 40170 fuel pump could be disassembled and the bowl rotated.  Has anyone done this?

WOW   Here are a lot of quesions.    Thanks

Originality / Very Late 69 L78 Fuel Line and Tee Asm
« on: July 11, 2015, 09:34:10 PM »
I am researching a very late 69 with the l78 option.  It is missing the fuel line Tee asm and fuel lines.  The Tee Asm should be the one with the mounting bracket installed (3963562) on a stud on the intake manifold.  The AIM lists a different Pipe Asm from fuel pump to Tee.  It is 3965162 vs 3940931 pipe.  It looks like the Tee is mounted further forward than the Tee without the bracket 3886153.
Does anyone know who makes the special fuel lines required for the late Tee?  Or does anyone have a picture of the Tee mounted and the fuel lines?  As I said the AIM calls a different fuel line and it appears the Tee is forward of the normal production Tee.

Thanks

Originality / 69 SS/396 with F41 Suspension and N44 Steering
« on: June 30, 2015, 04:59:41 PM »
I'm the original owner of a 1969 SS (5Z27AA) 396/375 (L78) with Special Purpose Suspension (5F41AC $10.55) and Special Steering Equipment (5N44BA $15.80).  I thought the SS package had HD Suspension and Quick Ratio Steering included.  So mine appears strange.  The options come from original price sticker.   I special order the car with these options.

I have a Body Broadcast Copy and the Steering Gear is AN and rear shocks are UN.  It doesn't have the front springs or shocks (Chassis Broadcast Copy which I don't have).  The rear springs are BM 3934894.  It has an 11/16 diameter anti-roll bar  in front and not the 13/16 anti-roll bar on COPO Camaros with Sport Suspension.

I'm trying to find out any informtion on these options on top of the SS option.  Also does anyone know the front shock codes and front spring codes?  I guess I could use the parts book and look for a front spring equilivent to production line spring.  Maybe someone has an SS optioned like this.

I know no changes have been made since I'm the original owner.

Thanks

Originality / 68 Backup Switch Harness Clips
« on: December 27, 2014, 09:30:44 PM »
I am looking for a picture (maybe part number, tracing, etc) of the clip shown in the 1968 AIM M20 A7.  This is the clip for the backup lamp harness that is installed in the upper position with a bell housing bolt (3/8 diameter).  It does not have a part number in the AIM so I assume it was installed at the engine plant.

I have the lower clip that mounts to the lower transmission mount (shown as item 2 p/n 2404001) and it has a 1/2 diameter hole for the larger transmission bolt.  The harness is retained with these clamps (5/16 OD).

A picture, drawing (tracing) or any information would be helpful.

Thanks and Happy New Years

Originality / 1969 14 x 7 Trim Rings
« on: January 28, 2014, 07:11:06 PM »
Did the factory original 14 x 7 trim rings (Rally Wheel SS) or SS with Trim Rings have the 4 retention clips or the gripping teeth around the outside of the ring?  If these were changed during production from the retention clips does anyone know the approximate dates.  I know they were 2 3/4 inches wide and had the oblong valve stem hole.

I find a lot of information on the 15 x 7 Rally Wheel Z28 but not the 14 x 7 SS and I am only interested on the 14 x 7.

Thanks

Restoration / L78/L89 Intake Manifold Gasket
« on: November 03, 2013, 09:01:52 PM »
What is the best intake manifold gasket for a stock L78/L89 that has a blocked heat passage.?  I looked up and maybe Felpro 1211 with stock size ports or Victor Reinz has a nitroseal with the stock size ports.

Originality / DIfferent Pinion Nut on 12 bolt
« on: May 13, 2013, 05:51:37 PM »
I have a 69 Camaro SS 350 with original 12 bolt rear end.  I recently replaced the pinion seal.  I noticed the pinion nut (right side) is different than the normal pinion nut (left side).  The nut is zinc plated flange nut with serrations on the bottom.  There was no washer under the nut.  It i[is 3/4 inch tall and 1 7/16 inch diameter (same diameter as thick nut normally used).   I reused the nut that I had marked.   I don't think any rear end work was done on the car as it has been in the family since new.  Does anyone have a part number on this different style pinion nut?

I've used the Attach: function to try to get the picture online.  If this doesn't work will someone tell me how to include pictures.

Originality / AX coded Mirror on 1969
« on: April 13, 2013, 02:15:21 PM »
I am the original owner of a 02D 1969 Camaro (SS 396).  The outside mirror is marked B-AX-9.  I understand this was supplied by Ajax Mirror and has a February (B) manufacture date.  I know the mirror is original to the car.  I have found that Ajax was a supplier for GM in this time frame.

Does anyone have a mirror with the same markings (B-AX-9)?  Are there any Donnelly Mirror (DMI) mirrors with 2-DMI-9 markings?  I assume they ran out to the primary supplier mirrors (DMI) and used the Ajax (AX) mirrors.

Also are the insides the same as the Donnelly mirror.  I assume the Ajax mirror has riveted posts like the Donnelly mirror.  My Ajax mirror has a loose head.

I have a NOS DMI mirror with incorrect date code.  Is the correct Paragon Corvette number for the dated glass 2013D priced at $12?

Lots of questions.  Thanks

Originality / Heater Delete Cover Cement
« on: December 30, 2012, 02:48:08 PM »
I am looking for information on the 3899878 Cement-Plastic Seam (item 67a on C48 Heater Delete in AIM).  There is a gap to seal.  Does anyone know the composition of this or if a good substitute is available?  I guess I could use the 3M ribbon black sealer but would like to know about what is really correct.

Thanks

Originality / 1111267 z-28 Distributo
« on: June 12, 2011, 07:06:17 PM »
I have a 1111267 HD Service distributor for s z-28.  Does anyone have the complete specifications on this distributor?  I think they are called out in the Delco Service Manual.  I'm looking for vacuum and mechanical advance specifications, part numbers, etc.  I have not seen one of these manuals for years.

I would also like the specifications on the 1111263 (ball bearing) and 1111499 (1969 396/375) distributors.

Thanks

Restoration / Battery Cable Retainer Clips
« on: March 04, 2010, 01:30:03 AM »
I have a 69 Camaro ss 350 and I need to add the positive battery retainer clips (p/n 3857706).  They are on page 12 A12 of the assembly manual.  There are 2 of these clips and they go on the subframe and retain the positive cable.  There are 2 holes for these clips.  These are blind holes with no access on the back side of the holes.  The clips need to be flaired (crimped or flattened) to hold them to the subframe and there is no way to get access to do this.  This same clip is used on the alternator bracket for the negative cable and it looks like the clip was flaired (bent over) with a special tool.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fasten these clips to the subframe?

Thanks

Originality / 1969 VIN label on drivers door
« on: February 25, 2007, 10:48:44 PM »
I have an 11C 1969 Camaro.  The car is missing the VIN / Date label on the drivers door.  Do all of the 1969s (mine is a Norwood car) have this label on the drivers door?  Or since the car was produced in November 1968 was the label omitted at the plant and only used after 1 January?

Thanks
