General Discussion / Power Window Motor Rebuild
« on: March 25, 2024, 11:36:40 PM »
In search of a vendor that can rebuild original power window motors. D&M Resto is the only place I have found and looking for another option.
If anyone has gone aftermarket, is their a consensus on best option?

Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / A/C drier bracket color
« on: January 04, 2024, 02:04:29 AM »
Easy question for some of you guys. I sourced an original pair of drier brackets for my 68. Was the original color black, zinc, or other?

Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / RS Grill and Doors
« on: October 28, 2023, 02:58:48 AM »
Hello all!

So my 68 is a 12B car which would have had the chrome accents on the grill and doors right?
I may be replacing these items along with door bezels and both valances.
My question is, has anyone utilized the repop grill and doors with chrome accents? If so, we’re they any good? Or junk? What about bezels and valance? And what vendor did you purchase from?
I would consider NOS if they could be found.

Thanks. I’ll hang up and listen to your comment.   8)

General Discussion / Exciting find to share.
« on: July 20, 2023, 01:43:08 AM »
I was extremely pleased to find not one , but both original coil spring tags still attached upon removal. Even more pleased when I looked up the YE code!
YE code springs were used on 1968 L34 cars that had F-41 special suspension. I am finding many things on this car that point to original equipment and now this find gives even more credibility to this car being an original L34 survivor.
I just wanted to share this with everyone as it is so cool to see this kind of clue from
the past. (Hopefully the photos will attach).
I would also like to hear from anyone that has further information on exactly what the F-41 option included or any other information.

General Discussion / RS. NOS vs Repop
« on: January 28, 2023, 03:16:54 PM »
Hey everyone.
I need to replace my vacuum relay switch and actuators on my 68.
There are NOS parts available for a $$$$. The Repops are obviously much less. The NOS would cool, but not like the entire system would be original as hoses need to be replaced as well.

I need to know who has used the Repop option on the above parts and what kind of luck they have had with them and also, which vendor purchased from. Same with hose kit. If these parts are junk, maybe the $$$$ up front for NOS would pay off in the long run vs. replacing repops yearly??
Relay and both actuators = $1250 NOS/$215 Repop.

Thanks.

General Discussion / 396 L34 Cam
« on: September 09, 2022, 02:08:34 AM »
So looks like I will be replacing the cam due to a flat exh lobe and possibly more depending on how things look once cleaned properly.
Keeping this engine stock and wondering where to go for a new cam. I have read that there have been some manufacturing issues and "soft material" problems.
What have you had success with? Is Crane still a good choice?

Thanks.

General Discussion / Best Brake components?
« on: May 19, 2022, 09:42:15 PM »
Who has the best quality brake components? There are many vendors and I wonder if it is all the same manufacturer.  Booster, proportioning valve needed. Possibly Master as well.
Original front disks. Would like to keep similar to stock.

Maintenance / 68 Brake issue. Input needed.
« on: May 18, 2022, 02:12:22 AM »
Hey everyone.
I am having an issue with my brakes and at this point I am not sure which direction to go. Here's my situation.
Original Front disk power brakes. 396/TH400.
Caliper was leaking when I got the car so one of the first things to tackle were the brakes. Had calipers rebuilt (all new pistons and seals) and also had to replace the metering valve as it was leaking from the boot. Bench bled the Master and put it back together. Bled all four corners twice. Test drove around the block and everything seemed fine other than pulling to the right.
Took the car to work about a week later. Drove it to lunch and after sitting in the drive thru for 7-8 mins, went to leave and approaching the street.... HARD brake pedal with indicator light on. Pulled it into the parking lot next door and could not get anything better out of the pedal so had it towed home. Pulling off the flatbed and on the ground, good pedal for just a pump or two then HARD pedal with light. Next day I pulled the check valve from booster and whoosh. Still holding vac. Did the suck blow on check and it's good. Bled all four again and took for a spin. Good brakes for the fist 3-5 minutes then.... HARD pedal with indicator light..
So. Vac/booster issue or HYD issue??? Could it be the diverter valve is tripped? Could it be a bad booster even if it holds vac?
Any advice would be appreciated as I really NEED to get this car out and enjoy it with the Wife.
Thanks. Craig

Maintenance / 12 Bolt Posi question
« on: March 25, 2022, 12:12:21 AM »
So I noticed as I was pulling my car into the garage, that my diff seemed to be binding. It was almost like a catch or pop if you will. The front wheels were turned and slightly uphill. I drained and replaced lube along with additive, did 20-30 figure 8's in reverse, drove her home and had the same issue.
Is this normal for a Posi? Thank you for any input.

General Discussion / 68 RS/SS
« on: January 25, 2022, 02:04:09 AM »
Hey everyone.
I'm sure this topic has been broached many times before but here goes....
I have searched for the right car for several years and recently pulled the trigger on a "true" 68 RS/SS L34. I feel I am somewhat informed on 1st gens and have read a lot on Camaros.org. However, I would like to get some help and input from some of you that are truly knowledgeable on the legitimacy of a 68.
What is the best way to go about this? I have seen many replies from Ed. Is he the guy to talk to?
I feel I have a good car but again have many questions for a pro that can help with an informed determination.
Thanks.

General Discussion / 68 RS Hideaway Help
« on: January 21, 2022, 02:31:00 AM »
Hi All.
I just purchased an unmolested 68 RS/SS. The hideaways are not working and I am looking for some direction of where to start and what the most common issues to look into first. I would prefer to get them working rather than update to electric in order to maintain originality. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
