Restoration / 68 camaro power steering lines routing
« on: February 10, 2022, 11:19:37 PM »
Power steering with the 350 block and power brakes, do the lines go under or over the engine mount.  Do both go there or does one go under and one over, which one  goes where?
Photos would be very helpful.
Thanks for your help!

Restoration / 68 engine department hoses
« on: January 24, 2022, 07:50:21 PM »
I thought I would start on new post on my quest to detail the engine compartment of my 68.  The car is an 05C Norwood build.  It has a 1974 350 with an Edelbrock intake manifold and carb.  My goal is to make it “look” as original as I can.  I have researched the AIM and Forums but many of threads are quite old and, at least to me, not definitive, it seems the answers may be dependent on when and where the car was built.
So, specific to my car, here are my current questions.
Heater hoses, should they have ribs and/or GM square logos, on one or both?  The repo catalogs are not very specific as to applications, who sells the right ones?  What length should they be?
Power steering, do the hoses go under or over the engine mount.  Do both go there or is one go under and one over, which one  goes where?
I have seen references to engine compartment photos from the Sep/Oct 1996 Camaro Enthusiast magazine, does anyone have a link to those?
As always, thanks in advance for your help.

Quick question, are the bolts and washers that attach the alternator and power steering brackets to the engine cad or black phosphate?  Thanks in advance for your help.

Restoration / front seat belt installation
« on: August 19, 2021, 08:56:32 PM »
I am finally getting around to putting the seat belts back in the car, unfortunatly I did not take them out and I can't for the life of me figure out how to install the "hump" side belt with the rubber boot on it.  It appears the bolt has to go thru the hole in the boot, but once you do that you can't access the bolt head???
As always, thanks for any help.

General Discussion / alternator bracket
« on: March 28, 2021, 04:41:57 PM »
mornin' all, I have a 68 Camaro with a 1974 350 in it.  As part of the work we are doing on it we will be adding headers.  My problem is that the alternator bracket was bolted thru the exhaust manifold, but now with the headers I don't think that will be an option.  Any thoughts on the installation will be greatly appreciated.

Restoration / 1968 battery cables
« on: October 07, 2020, 12:33:31 AM »
after reading thru the threads relating to battery cables it appears that the 68 cables were top post, both black, and the small ground wire that goes to the fender is black, but I was unsure about the small positve wire to the junction block color, red or black?
thanks

Restoration / dash speaker install
« on: October 07, 2020, 12:27:44 AM »
trying to install a new speaker in the dash, orignial speaker and bracket was missing.  ordered a bracket from Ric's and a new speaker from another vendor, unfortunatly the two are not compatible.   i can fabricate a bracket of similar shape to support the speaker but is the speaker supposed to be supported only by the bracket with  no other physical connection to the cowl?

Restoration / heater control assembly replacement
« on: September 29, 2020, 03:57:52 PM »
Is it possible to replace the Heater Control Assembly without having to remove the heater box.  I can't seem to get the deproster ductwork out of the way enough to get to the cable connection.  Thanks in advance, Steve.

Restoration / hood hinge and latch bolt finish
« on: September 25, 2020, 04:43:20 PM »
Doing cosmentic restoration of 68 SS,  somewhere along the way I read that that the hood hinge and latches were light silver color and used a caliper paint that was recommended,  Now after seeing other photos and further reading it appears the Cast Blast Cast Iron color is more appropriate, going to remove and start repainting today.  My question is, what finish is on the bolts?  Thanks in advance for any help.

working on a cosmetic restoration of 68 SS convertible interior and looking for help with the finish on the mirror stem and the top releases at the ends of the windhield upper trim.  it appears to be a painted finish and not a plated finish.  if it is painted any help on color and manufacturer would be greatly apreciated.

General Discussion / 68 camaro console rebuild
« on: July 18, 2020, 06:54:58 PM »
I bought the Classic Headquarters 47 piece console fastener kit from Rick's, now I have all(?) the fasteners and all the parts and no clue as to what goes where.  I have gone thru the AIM and that is a little help but not much.  Any clues??

Restoration / 68 engine compartment detailing
« on: May 28, 2019, 05:34:27 PM »
I am a new member of the CRG and am extremely impressed with your site! I am working on the engine compartment of my 68 SS and would appreciate detail photos of wiring harness on DS inner fender, clips, ties etc and wiring on the PS of the radiator support.  There seems to be a clip on the lower right corner of the heater box that I cannot find, any suggestions?  Lastly, is there a compilation of all of the bolts and screw in the engine compartment, configuration, pointed or blunt, head markings etc.  seems I have quite a variety on my car.  Thanks.
