General Discussion / Need Big Block Radiator
« on: January 05, 2019, 04:00:09 AM »
Hello Members,

I just found out the side tank needed to build the Harrison radiator I need is unavailable. I was in the process of ordering a Harrison four core, auto trans radiator for my '67 big block car. The reason I was opting for the four row core is the differential is a 3.73 and the 400 trans has an ever so mild stall converter in it. It's the mildest street converter TCI makes.

Even though my car came with a three row core, I didn't want to end up with cooling problems and I definitely don't want to add an auxiliary trans cooler. I just felt with the drivetrain I had, a three row radiator may not be up to the task.

Does anyone have any suggestions beyond settling for a reproduction radiator?

Thanks everyone,
Buzz

Originality / '67 RS/SS Pinstripe Delete?
« on: October 22, 2018, 08:09:42 AM »
Was it possible in '67, when ordering a Super Sport with the Rally Sport package, to delete the pinstriping? I thought I read that it was possible to delete the Bumble Bee stripe from the nose of Super Sport cars - but I was wondering if it were possible for a buyer of an RS/SS to delete JUST the pinstriping?

I've seen lots of Camaros that the owners opted not to pinstripe the cars after a repaint. But would those cars be gigged if they were being judged for originality?

Restoration / Foundry Black Paint

Hello Members,

Where can I find "foundry" black spray paint? I'm told that's what is supposed to be used on master cylinders.

General Discussion / NCRS Can't Provide Dealer Name
« on: September 19, 2018, 12:13:44 PM »
Hello Members,

Well, SHOOT! I've been contacted by the NCRS researcher regarding my car's history. It seems the GM documents do not list the dealer name and location. All they can provide is the production date, the dealer zone number and the dealer GM code.

Can someone here tell me more about dealer zone numbers and what the dealer GM code is? The researcher wants to know if I want just the limited details they have or do I want a refund. I appreciate their honesty, but I need to know more before I can make a decision. What do you members think? Should I proceed or tell them 'No Thanks'?

Thanks,
Buzz

Originality / L35 Dipstick Color Code
« on: September 13, 2018, 12:59:20 AM »
Hello members!

For you L35 owners, I'm curious as to what color code your dipstick has. The AIM says an L35 oil "gage", PN #3925520, has a purple color code identification. My dipstick, before it was LOST by the motor shop, had a salmon colored code identifier. I am the third owner of the car, so I can't verify if it's the original. But it was definitely a vintage GM dipstick.

I am currently searching for a replacement "gage", which I'm told is very hard to come by. I doubt very seriously that if I do happen to find one, it will most likely be the wrong color code. And I'm puzzled why my car had a salmon colored identifier, rather than the correct purple.

Why would you replace a dipstick? It certainly wouldn't fall out of calibration. SO, other than swapping it for a flashy chrome one,...why would you replace it? Maybe it becomes LOST? But how does that happen?! I guess I'll have to ask the motor shop.

What color is your L35 dipstick?

Restoration / '67 Manual Disc Master Cylinder Mounting Gasket
« on: September 05, 2018, 11:29:09 PM »
Hello Members,

I'm trying to find a source for the gasket that goes in between the master cylinder and the firewall. It is item no. 11, on AIM UPC 5, A2, part no. 3792566. I haven't a clue as to where the original went, but I would want to replace it being 50 years old.

So far no one can tell me where to find one. I'd make one, but I don't know what is the proper material and I don't know how a judge would feel about a home made gasket. I doubt  if it would earn me any points.

Thanks everyone,

Restoration / Carter Quadrajet Choke Linkage
« on: September 04, 2018, 12:38:45 AM »
Hello Members,

I have reached a major pitfall in installing my Qjet carb. I have a May '67 L35 with the M40 400 trans which had a spreadbore Holley 850 cfm when purchased. I have been told it should a Carter Qjet instead of the more common Rochester and CRG reports seem to confirm this.

Carter Carburetors

The Carter "YF" single barrel carburetor was used only in 1967, and only on the six-cylinder engines with A.I.R. (Air Injection Reactor, aka "Smog"). Other than this application, no other "Carter designed" carburetors (AFB, AVS, WCFB or Thermoquad) were ever installed from the factory on a first-generation Camaro. However, Carter was also licensed to build the Quadrajet as a secondary source, and supplied carburetors to not only Chevrolet, but other GM divisions as well. Note that all Carter-built Quadrajet carburetors will have the same part number and ID number as the Rochester-built Quadrajets, but will have "MFG BY CARTER CARBURETOR FOR GMC" cast into the carburetor body.

Things went smoothly until I tried to come up with the proper choke linkage. Nothing I have been able to acquire through parts vendors is the right part. If those members with this setup could post some pics of their choke linkage would be immensely helpful. And for those with any ideas or a solution to my problem would be very appreciated!

If anyone has one of these linkage rods they would part with PLEASE contact me here through the forum.

Thanks everyone!

Originality / Position of Air Cleaner Decals
« on: August 26, 2018, 05:05:00 PM »
Hello Members!

Was there a certain position that the motor cubic inch/horsepower decals were placed on the aircleaner lid in correlation to where the silkscreened "Sevice Instructions" image appears on the underside? I hope everyone doesn't think I'm being overly fussy about this tiny detail, but it seems others stew and fret about where factory stickers are placed and my originals were long gone by the time I acquired the car.

Thanks to all!

Originality / Shock Absorber Codes
« on: August 21, 2018, 02:53:18 AM »
Hello Members,

Where can I find a source for the correct shock codes for my '67? Are they in the AIM somewhere that I haven't found?

Originality / '67 Starter Solenoid WIring Harness Retainer?
« on: August 19, 2018, 04:46:11 AM »
Hello Members,

Can anyone tell me if '67 L35 starters had these starter solenoid wiring harness retainers? HBC lists this as a 67 part, but it's not in the AIM. Was this perhaps added later as a service bulletin item or wasn't it used in '67?

Restoration / '67 U17 Oil Pressure Line
« on: August 17, 2018, 07:29:28 AM »
Hello Members,

I have some questions regarding the '67 console oil pressure line which appears on U17, A4 of the '67 AIM. I'm using the Heartbeat City kit that is referenced as "OE Style":

 http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/store/product/25438/1967-Camaro-BB-Oil-Line-Kit-OE-Style-396-325-HP/

This line which is described as "assembly line correct" incorporates a black nylon line, which the AIM refers to as "hose". My first question is, does the factory line have the brass orifices that the HBC kit has? These orifices can be seen in the line, if the kit illustration is enlarged. Has anyone installed this kit in their car? Did you use the orifices in one or both ends of the line and are you satisfied with how the oil gauge responds to pressure changes? My second question is, did you bleed the line during the installation?

I've installed aftermarket Stewart Warner oil pressure gauges in the past and these used copper or nylon lines that simply used the compression fittings at the ends, but didn't use any orifices to control the oil in the line. Does anyone know if the factory U17 oil pressure lines have these orifices? I'm just trying to avoid any problems with the oil gauge due to improperly installing this line and having to correct something later on.

Thanks,
Buzz

General Discussion / Hello From New Memeber
« on: August 15, 2018, 07:54:39 PM »
Greetings Everyone!

I'm Buzz and I have a Bolero Red '67 RS/SS L35 that I'm restoring with the help of a skilled bodyman. The car is presently in my hands and I'm performing the mechanical tasks of the project. I'm the third owner and have yet to research where the car was orginally sold. I hope to tap into the collective knowledge on the members and Administrators here to make my project the best that it can be!

Thanks in advance and best regards,
Buzz
