General Discussion / Re: Black X22

Could be that the paint shop who did the job omitted painting the back panel semi-flat for BB's and the owner took it on his own to do it right?
Except, the consensus believes gloss black is correct for tail panel on bb cars. So owner did not do it “right”, according to the accepted standard.
Well I'm not one to go with the consensus for the reason being that , being the old dude that I am, have seen black 69's from the show room floor with satin black tail
panels. Matter of fact,  back in the 60's I lived right next to a dirt lot that the Chevy dealer across from my apt. would use to park the new vehicles. I hi-tail it  their
to check out all the 67-69 Camaros - SS's, Z28's , RS's .Who's to say that at some point Chevy decided to change the color combo for the trim but I can only go by what I have seen.
Miss those days.

The 12 bolt had a code of BS, with 4 leaves  and the radiator tag was UH

Is the radiator a 3 core?

The owner of Heartbeat City came across an astounding inventory of 69 Z's and a boat load of DZ blocks - It certainly wouldn't hurt to give him a call to find out if it one of those blocks  happens to belong to your car.

One would think that when you find a batch of a certain item, the prices go down - rare coins for example where inventories , once in short supply, suddenly become more common. In the case of the discovery of quite a number of DZ blocks, one would think the same?  Would be curious into knowing what HBC would be asking for one.

What did we do before evaporust?

It was Naval Jelly for me and/or  a wire wheel. If you left the jelly on too long it would crust up and turned white. The results
were ok but messy to clean up.

My apologies to the OP - the 293 for 68 seems to be the one used on Z's -checked on some restorations noting this  ;)
I went through that above - it appears to be 298 for 68 Z's, with docs to back that up.

Check out this thread on the owner of an original 68 Z - the coil on it is a 293 - the MacNeish book usually is very spot on for any differences between
the 68Z's and the other models and he did not state anything unique about the Z coil. That would indicate that the 327 / 302's used the same ones.

I'm sorry but this seller is off his/her bird. And it's not even the right grill. So what would clones go for?

The bullet points indicate photos were  signed and authenticated by Carrol Shelby  - very likely went to Shelby American for the reason that I can't see why not if his sig is on the dash. I can except this reason for the Shelby look and if receipts available also.

had to check my coil from an original 327 car and to my amazement it was the original - 293.  I think Jerry's book needs to be corrected to show that Z's came with the 298.

Quote
My friend's 1968 Z28 had the smog fittings on the headers.  With a M21 transmission, 4.10 gears, F60-15 Goodyear tires fitted to American 5-spoke aluminum rims and traction bars, his best time in the quarter mile was 13.98 seconds @ 103 mph.

There was 2 part  article by Super Stock mag in '68 that test dragged a z28 that was owned by Jerry Stahl of Stahl Headers - with stock exhaust it  managed a best of 13.68 @ 106.5mph - just a bit of tweaking with jetting and keeping the car cool by using a makeshift ice bucket.

The next chapter,  with headers, tires,  minor machine and still under NHRA stock rules - it ran 12.31 @115

Of course with the right driver and the right engine pro like what Jerry MacNeish used for his '67,  it can run low 10's all day in NHRA D/Stock

"April 30, 2010, Atco, NJ, Jerry MacNeish sets the new NHRA D/Stock
National Record and runs an amazing 10.45 @ 126.21. Now NHRA certified
as the fastest 302 Z28 Stock Eliminator Camaro in the country!"
