If the car was ordered 5/6 months earlier, it would have a much lower NOR#. My car is 05A and is NOR314XXX. Great car, great color and options. Tag is 100% legit. My car is a BV also. Is there tape over the hole on the firewall for the ZL-2?

Yeah, that's why I was wondering if maybe he made changes, or maybe dealer screwed up order

any way you can point me to the hole for the ZL-2? haven't gotten that far yet

Yes either a 6 or a 9 - either of which is a good date for the car.
There are other JL8's built after this car and on the same week as this car, it must have been the dealership.

There were quite a few BV 4.10 Z28's built in April.

Yeah, on the dealership thing, said it took think 5/6 months to get his car from date he ordered it, I guessing he maybe had some changes done?  Also anyone know why the tape over the hole? Maybe open element air cleaner?

Well the "6" I believe denotes the 6th week of 1969, which would be about the 2nd week of February. So it predates you car (good) by about 10 weeks. For a frame of reference my hood predates my 08C car by about 6 weeks (stamped 26). So it is possible. There are a couple of more guys with original ZL-2 hoods, maybe they can chime in with some date ranges as well.

Does his buddy still have that block?

Unfortunately I it's long gone

Hey Steve, I can't comment on the stamp but shouldn't there be a pipe plug above the timing cover?

That's a dead giveaway, and the "3" looks odd

well you could match up the date of the hood with car. Not perfect science, but it would be highly coincidental to have just the right date on it. I saw the tape over the wiring hole, (interesting), is the rest of the parts there on the firewall?

Also were you lucky enough to get the original 302 with it? any other paperwork pop?

unfortunately this is the only number on the hood (6) car is 04C

and its right were CRG said it would be, drivers side rear.  I was also curious on the tape, do you or anyone know of other hoods with the hole covered?

I haven't look for the parts on the firewall, do you have a picture of what I should be looking for? I haven't gotten that far along on the restoration.

and on the original 302, no it's long gone, it spun a rod bearing at 3k miles while doing 70mph going down the road, it went back to the dealer for warranty, and they said they wouldn't replace to motor due to custom work done (headers, among a few other things) so they rebuilt it, according to the owner it never ran the same.  At 6k miles the motor blew up and he bought the 327 from a pro stock racer buddy of his and gave the original motor to his buddy for storage while 327 was being freshened up.  The motor (short block) sat there for 25-30 years before the business was sold and the building demolished about 7 years ago.

the third owner pulled the 327/4 speed and replaced it with 427/400, the owner I got the car from bought it as a roller, with NOS fenders and 1/4s but had horrible work done.  Motor is missing nuts between engine mounts and frame mounts, one bolt is about half way out.  The rear suspension hardware was finger tight, he replaced the BV 12 bolt with a 308 peg leg 10 bolt, but gave me the 12 bolt

I'm slowly fixing everything from back to front, but seems like except for underhood everything remained untouched.

Great option combo on your car. Endura, M22 BV Dlx int    The hood is production line so I'm guessing it is a real ZL2 car as well.

Guess I got lucky, been able to confirm a lot of cars history from both here and previous owners.  To think original own ordered car with JL8 and was denied, but got everything think he wanted, and even things he didn't ( center console).

Kurt said no way to really confirm hood was installed on the production line, but original owner said it was there when he got it.

its the key element of a running joke. When people ask me if its a real Z28, I say "No, its not even a real Camaro!"
Dean, that is one of the funniest things I've heard/read in a long, long time. Thanks for that. Keep the car going, lovin' this build!

here's a pic I got from the original owner of my z, taken in 1970, looks black to me, what do you guys think?

Dave, that picture has me all giddy inside. I am a big Pontiac guy and to see a picture from 1970 with a BRAND SPANKIN NEW Trans Am in it.......that just made my day. Very very cool.
Got any other pictures of that car back in the day?

I was pointing out the Z/28 badges more than the black grills.

Dave- beautiful car no matter the grill color. I would like to own a legit 69 Z/28 some day...

thanks, got lucky on the z, but its gonna have a little of the same flavor your car has, btw love what you're doing with your car
