General Discussion / Re: Distrubtor raised to high?

There will be some particles from those sanding disc's but the worst thing they do is screw up the gasket surface.  If the rear main is damaged I'm assuming their talking about the rear thrust. If that is the case 99% of rear thrust problems stem from the transmission [clutch/converter/pump/misalignment]. Oil problems should affect the rest of the bearings. If this is the case your new motor will have the same fate.

Oil also could be getting sucked in thru the rocker stud if there isn't sealer on the threads as the stud hole extends into the intake runner. If the manifold is not fitting the head 100% it can suck oil past the gasket.

No photos. I probably had a program but if it still exists it would be buried at my parents house some where.

This thread has the makings of a cool Camaro book !  I was at the 1967 F1 race at Mosport. I still have the ticket stub that I saved some where. I was only 12 years old plus I got to ride to the track in my cousin's friend's new 396 4 speed white 67 chevelle . Pretty memorable day for a kid!

General Discussion / Re: Just bored and wondering ?

Years ago I bought a 350 4 bolt block from a customer that was going to a big block in his race car. I went over the numbers and it turns out to be a 1970 corvette LT1 with trans ign. I searched the partial vin hoping to reunite the motor and car. I got a hit and there it was at a dealer in the US as a restored numbers matching original motor. They had the time slips from a local drag strip here in Ontario in the document binder. They had the build date off by one day! I chuckled to my self as I'm sure they wouldn't have been real happy to talk to me!

Restoration / Re: Anyone dye seatbelts?
« on: January 25, 2016, 06:29:48 PM »
When I bought my 69 the seat belts were stored in plastic bags for years, There was rust on the deluxe buckles so I soaked the buckle in Evaporust to see if it would help but of course it wicked up the belt itself. I rinsed them off and it didn't seem to damage the belt. Cleaned the material nice and still black. I don't know if its the right thing to do but it seemed to work.

Hi.  I assume that your 350 is a older one [ 2 piece rear main] then as stated it should not have any counterweights.  If by chance it is a newer one piece seal the balancing is different and the flex plate may be in the wrong position.
