I am curious about not having 4P showing up earlier then November. I have a 10E with a 4P on it. I've had it since 12/68 and know where it was before then.

as an aside here, an Amish Barn Find is not necessarily an oxymoron. Until an Amish person joins the church there is no prohibition against cars or motorcycles. Its up to the individual families if they wish to allow a family member to keep one on the property. While not that common these things exist and it would not be unusual to find one that has sat for decades completely untouched over that time. Also uncommon to find one protected over that time. You wont find one on a conservative Mennonite property.

I dont believe that it is entirely correct that vehicles could come without antennas and yet not have a radio. I cannot document this to anyones satisfaction but my 10e was such a car. I remember seeing 2 cars come in on the same load to our local Chevy dealer, which was Hedrick Bros. at that time, equiped the same way. The cars were not radio delete but radio "short" or so we were told. I dont know the story on my car other then it still had the block off plate when I got it in January of 1969 along with a rear antenna and a rear shelf speaker. The car's original salesman told me it never had one and came that way. Anyway, no documentation but I know what I saw.

I think Yenko produced many vehicles not all of which were copo cars. In the town next door to where I am there is an A title original owner Yenko Nova with all the documentation. Its got all the trim, the seats, the whole Yenko package on it except that its a 350 with a turbo behind it. Its in show condition but the owner rarely takes it anywhere because hes tired of listening to know it alls calling it a clone or a fake.

whether you were happy or not had nothing to do with it at the time. Pa had had a governor named Lawrence who had 2 sons killed in a car wreck that he blamed on the car. He instituted a twice a year inspection system in Pa with stingent details on how equipment was supposed to be. These werent the drive thrus some states had. Cars on lifts, wheels pulled. The chambered pipes did not meet the requirements and the dept of motor vehicles declared them illegal. However it was real tough to enforce unless you were a dealer. Tire size regs, rocker panel height regs, exhaust regs . To street race back then in pa you needed a real friendly inspection station, midnight inspections, hot stickers, or you had to swap parts twice a year. It was controlled by the garage inspectors who were members of the Pa State Police. If you were an inspection station you didnt want a hot car with a fresh sticker on it in your parking lot when the garage inspector showed up.

I could never quite figure out how vette side pipes made the cut because chambered pipes is what they were too.

 I think the car was a showroom floor car at Heimbach & Sweat Chevy in Pennsburg Pa.  The guy who bought it beat the tar out of it and blew it up street racing the other Z I mentioned. (Z's werent too hot on the street unless you had 4.88's in them back in the day. They wouldnt touch a 350SS w 4.10's. It wasnt what they were built for). We towed it into the local GMC garage put it on a lift, slid the pan back, saw the busted rod and the 2 bolt mains. Took it back to Heimbach. It came back with a crate motor and crossover exhaust and it was the first we heard of the pipe issue. The Z that blew was dark green on black. The other one was the same with a white interior. That car just "popped" when you looked at it. Gorgeous.

I think the option was available on a state by state basis. In Pa after the recall or end date or whatever if you took your chamber pipe car back to the dealer you would get it back with the crossover setup on it without notice and dealers that didnt want trouble with the garage inspectors never offered them again. I had 3 friends with chambered pipes cars 2 Z'z and a 396. The big block car is a barn car locally and still has the pipes. The Z's both had their systems removed when the cars were back for service. As an interesting aside the one Z was back for a blown engine. It had a 2 bolt main block in it.

 best I can do on that I think is the side shot picture of a picture in my thread below this one. I dont know if a back end shot exists. The side shot was taken in 83 in the front yard before I took it apart. I will stick a picture of the actual wheels in here sometime this weekend if I get them dug out .

I dont know how to prove something like that but.... back in the day Cragar alledgedly made 4 special offset 15" rims for the rear of his SuperStock Camaro that were made to center in the middle of the stock wheelwell. They were ordered thru Keystone. Keystone mis delivered 2 of them to a speed shop in Souderton Pa. In the 24 hours it took them to track down the 2 errant wheels they wound up on the back of my car and I refused to sell them back. I still have them. Its a great unprovable story and 2 slightly odd looking Cragars. The chrome didnt hold up any better on them though.

Is there any "rule of thumb" to follow when buying hardware especially the more or less invisible kind? The first things I find I need are the 3892755 speednuts that hold the forward rear spring mounts in place. For something like that I wouldnt want to reuse original and care more for a quality product then a dead on original part.

I came up with some brake parts while rooting through my stuff. 5463565L & 5463566R brake backing plates and a 5460348 brake master cylinder and Delco Moraine power booster. Where would I look to see what these came off of? They look like someone reconditioned them. I am thinking they have to be Chevelle or A body parts.

yes thats the original main case. It has my initials stamped in it. Bad things happened inside that box and it needs to have the countershaft bores sleeved. Back in the day trannys were stolen regularly. If you were a guy with a big body low hp car and started doing any modificiations to it you soon discovered what a weak link a saginaw trans was and the cheapest way to repair a saginaw was to steal a muncie. It was good to look closer up there. Found an original shifter and a 30 across cam in a tube.

Pete. I wore some heavy jewelry back in the day and if you cut into that blue wheel you found red plastic. I carved a nice gash in it with a ring over time.
also it did not have an SS350 gas cap. The only 350 designation was on the flags.

X77 This never went back for the factory mod. It didnt work anyway. I broke a set of ET bars off it and got a set of original Lakewood lift bars on it. They worked and I never replaced them. I think I'll use Caltracs today though if I stay with that suspension. The one Lakewood is long and clips the road surface under hard braking if the front retainers are off.

I know somewhere there are pictures. It had the 350 flags on the side. What it didnt have is "SS350" insignia anywhere, just SS.

69Z I know about the blue. Cant imagine it being another color. Just hate the bright blue interior though. What I think I will do is return the interior paint to bright blue but go with the white gut.

the original engine was taken out in 72. By 72 the car was coming apart as I mentioned before. The quarter panels were extremely cancered. The interior stitching was failing. I had the quarters switched out along with the rear panel. That was a mistake because in 72 already the rear panel with the holes for the reverse lights was unavailable. The hardest to get parts for it actually were parking brake cables. The car had a couple design changes on parking brake setups and the drum cables on mine were the odder design and a pain to get.
I have a 4 bolt main engine that went back into the car at that point.
