I went and checked out the block. Good Shape. Could not find the entire partial VIN stamp. Attached are photos, including the area by the oil filter boss. It looks like 4 numbers, but is that's it. End of a production number – or? Where's the rest?

I read that sometimes GM would put the VIN somewhere on the transmission flange as well. Anybody know where to look?

Ed, if the partial VIN is not on the deck stamp, where is that located?

Mark, thanks for the date info. My bud's car is a late March car. It already seems like we've almost found the "needle in the haystack". To find a March motor would be difficult. I will definitely discuss with him. Also, one of the large casting numbers seller read to me on the back of the block was: #371386. Does that help?

For what it's worth, the cowl tag photo is suspicious to me. Does anybody notice how the characters in the middle are more pronounced and sharper, than say the "ST" in the upper left?  Looks almost like a Photoshop job or something. Same with "BDY, PNT" upper right. The baselines of the characters do not align.

Also, the rivots appear sloppy and "no factory" compared to mine...

Thanks Ed. Here are two other numbers I got from the seller. Large casting # back of motor 37137. Also, partial VIN? 37886120N (Not sure if this is exactly correct, the phone connection was breaking up.) Anyway, will more than likely pay a visit to inspect block.

Hey experts, got a possible score for a friend on a 350/300 block and want to authenticate some numbering. Deck pad is: T0512HA, which Tonowanda, mid May, and I believe "HA" means originally with smog pump?

Engine casting # is:  8956618. I know there were a few casting #'s used for 69 350's, is this one correct for 350?

I'm trying to make sure that this is not a "DZ" motor, because even though that would be a good find, would not be correct for his '69 pace car (w/ small block).

Would you also identify for me exactly where the "DZ" or other codes are located on the oil filter boss? (pics welcomed)

I think one may have been used more so on Corvettes (the ribbed one). That one showed up more on Ebay for Corvette 350 intakes. Thanks again...

Ed, finding 2 styles, curious as to which is correct? One has a rounded cast, and the other a rib. (see photos).

Ed one more if I may. Here's a pic of the current intake. It's a '68 - date code E . 68. Is the front arrangement under where the upper radiator hose casting the same on the '69 intake?  Specifically, where the "insert" is, and the heater hose connection?  (I am just now realizing that it may not be a "freeze" plug, but a plug where an oil tube would go for earlier models.)

Thanks Ed. Is that the only casting # for 69 350, or for this particular "T" code 300hp version?

Got a line on an intake for a 69 small block and need some help to properly identify. I've got the original block in the car – 350/300hp, but not intake. (It's a Tonowanda code block).

Other than the date code, what would be the correct casting number(s) that I would be looking for on the intake? Also, there is a letter code cast in front of the carb. I've seen "R" and "T" and others, which ones would be correct for '69 350/300? Does that matter?
